I bought this car in the first week of June,2003.Started taking the car apart the same week,my first job was to remove all of the paint on the car.I took the paint off the old way, with industrial strength paint remover and a  paint brush ,rubber gloves and razorblades. The car's body was in fairly good shape except for a few rust spots around the rear passenger's side wheel well and the tail lights. My friend Tim Robbins did all the body work, cut out all
the rust spots and replaced them with new sheet metal.I bought a new hood, new front driver's side fender and a new rear bumper for the car.We worked on this car everyday [except sunday] for three months.Tim had over 600 hrs in the bodywork alone.By the middle of August we had the car ready for paint. The car was painted in Solar Red,a factory 1968 color, three base coats, three coats of clear.Replaced the 400 engine with a 455 engine out of a
72 pontiac, put the correct code 16 heads[350 hp heads] on the engine along with a 7qt oil pan.Rebuilt the 455 engine in 20008,bored the block 30 over, bought a set of Keith Black pistons from Butler Performance in Tennessee, also put a set of aluminum roller rockers from Doug Herbert Performance Center.Put a set of disc brakes from Stainless Steel Brakes in the front and replaced all the bushing in the front end and gave the car a front end alinement ,did this in 2010.In 2011 bought a set of original 1968 hood scoops, had the back plates removed and installed a ram air kit from Ames Performance, along with dual electric fans from flex-a-lite.In 2012 had all the glass replaced from Auto City Classic,INC out of MN.Everything on this car has been replaced or been rebuilt. This is not a show car or trailer queen.I drive this car to a lot of cruise- ins and car shows.I would classify this car as a high end driver. This car had 18,000 miles on the speedometer when I bought it, it has 25,000 miles now, less than 3,000 miles since motor was rebuilt .This car has always been garaged and well maintained. You wouldn't find a
nicer 68 goat around, matching numbers or not. If you have any questions place call me, the seller has my number. Thanks for looking
The flaws are depicted in pictures 2-7. The mileage has been rolled over once and is the mileage for the replacement engine. I have more pictures but could only list 24 here. Please message me for interior pics.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Tue, Jun 19 2018

For General Motors, the W platform just kept giving and giving and giving for decade after decade, serving as the basis of Buick Regals, Oldsmobile Intrigues, Chevrolet Monte Carlos, and many, many more models. The final and most powerful Pontiac W-Body, the sixth-generation Grand Prix GTP, rolled off assembly lines for the 1997 through 2003 model years. Here's one in a Northern California self-service wrecking yard. GM bolted the supercharged 3800 V6 into vast numbers of cars during this era, providing a deep reservoir of cheap blowers for unwise high-boost projects. 240 front-tire-charring horses, complete with a Roots-type blower scream from the Eaton supercharger under the hood. I see plenty of blown 3800s during my junkyard travels, from the Bonneville SSEi to the Oldsmobile LSS. Depressingly, GM stopped putting manual transmissions in the Grand Prix during the 1993 model year, so '01 GTP owners had to take the four-speed slushbox. This one came close to the magic 200,000-mile mark, but fell 25,000 short. The interior took a beating during its life, ending its time on the road with shredded upholstery and dirty panels. Seven-band graphic equalizers were all the rage during the 1980s, but GM kept the tradition alive into our current century. This content is hosted by a third party. 6 car mashups that God never intended

Sat, May 17 2014

In the 2000s, the musical mashup genre saw a peak of popularity with releases like The Grey Album from Danger Mouse that mixed The Beatles and Jay-Z. UK artist James Pursey from Carwow decided to take the same concept of shoehorning two disparate things together but applied the concept to cars. Your opinion on the results will vary with your sense of humor. These creations are either some funny pieces of abstract art or absolute monstrosities that prove good design should be left alone. Likely the best of the bunch is the Lambotomic (pictured above), which combines a Lamborghini Miura and an Ariel Atom. Granted, the Ariel is little more than a skeleton to begin with, and the outcome looks like a slightly stretched Atom with the new nose and tail from one of the most beautiful vehicles ever. This could actually work. Though, not all of the mashups are quite so pleasant. The Porschiac WW RS (pictured right) is absolutely disgusting. It combines a Pontiac Aztek, which isn't a beauty queen to start with, and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Obviously, the 911 is an iconic shape in autonobolia, but that can't save it from the horror of the Aztek. Pursey fits the its nose, wheel, wing, roll cage and stripes onto the Pontiac. The outcome: A design that will show up in your nightmares. Check out the gallery for the rest of the mashups, including the Humi (a Humvee and a Mini), Aston Smartin (Aston Martin and Smart), Rangerini (Range Rover and Lamborghini Aventador) and the Mazdafenda (Mazda MX-5 Miata and Land Rover Defender). They might not all be beautiful (or even pretty), but it's fun to imagine these oddball creations actually driving down the road. GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
