This full-sized Pontiac G8 is a pleasure to drive and the most comfortable car I've ever owned.  It's been driven primarily on Wyoming highways by me when I was working.  It's a heavy, super responsive, road hugging, go fast car that is so fun to drive!  If you love Pontiacs, given the great condition this car is in and the low mileage, it would make a great collector car.

There's been no smoking, pets, or food in the car and the interior is in excellent condition.  It's been kept in a garage.  There are minor scratches and dings in the paint from normal driving.  All service records for the vehicle are available.  There have been no mechanical problems with the car and it hasn't been in any accidents.  The tires are the original tires and are still good.  The battery is brand new.

The car has a 3.6 V6 engine, 256 HP and 6300 rpms with automatic transmission including sport mode, rear wheel drive, antilock disc brakes with electonic brake assist.

Other standard features include:  remote start, remote door lock and trunk release, traction control, stability control, power windows and locks, XM satellite, ONstar, 18 inch wheels, sport dual hood scoops, rear spoiler, and dual exhaust with polished stainless steel tips.

The optional features included with this car are:  leather seating surfaces, front heated seats, 6 way power seats for both driver and passenger, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift lever, comfort and sound package that includes dual-zone air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with 6 disc CD changer, and premium speaker.

The car was purchased new in March, 2009 by me.  I bought it in Lander, Wyoming as my personal effort to help save General Motors.  ...  at least that's what I like to say.   When GM decided to discontinue Pontiac production,  I decided this car would become an especially good investment eventually. A relatively small number of G-8's were made (only 2008 and part of 2009) and there won't be any more Pontiacs.  The original purchase price for this car was $31,045.  According to what I've read, G-8s were marketed poorly and the purchase price was actually reduced by $3000 to $5000 before production ended in mid-2009.  I expect that in time, though, that the value of  G-8's will go up because there's just not a lot of them available.

I wouldn't be selling the car if I didn't have to but I have no need for it since I've retired and moved and have no place to keep it.  Until now it has always been kept stored in a garage.   In the past 18 months, I've only taken it on the road for a short drive a couple times.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.

Junkyard Gem: 2010 Pontiac Vibe

Wed, Apr 17 2024

Just over a month before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2009, General Motors announced that the 83-year-old Pontiac Division would be "phased out" by the end of 2010. Only three Pontiac vehicles were sold as 2010 models in the United States: the Solstice, Vibe and G6 (new G3s were sold here during 2010 but they were all 2009 models, while the G5 was available as a 2010 model only in Canada and Mexico). Today's bit of junkyard automotive history is one of the very last Vibes ever built, found in a yard near Denver, Colorado. This car is significant not just as one of the final vehicles to bear Pontiac badges but also as one of the last cars built by the New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated GM-Toyota joint venture in California, better known as NUMMI. The NUMMI factory began life as GM's Fremont Assembly, which built its first vehicle (a C-Series pickup) in 1963 and closed in 1982 after building its final vehicle (an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera). Rebooted as NUMMI, the first 1985 Chevrolet Nova (an Americanized AE82 Toyota Corolla Sprinter) rolled off the line in December of 1984. A quarter-century and better than eight million vehicles hence, NUMMI shut down production after its last Corolla was finished on April 1, 2010. While there was some noise about the Oakland Athletics building a new stadium on the site at the time, Tesla ended up buying most of the site soon after that. Tesla now builds more vehicles per year there than NUMMI ever did. The Vibe was co-developed with Toyota and based on the same platform as the ninth-generation Corolla. The Toyota Matrix was mechanically identical and was built in Canada, while the Japanese-market version (known as the Toyota Voltz) was built on the same NUMMI line as the Vibe and shipped across the Pacific. The Vibe/Matrix/Voltz got a redesign for the 2009 model year, but few noticed due to all the turmoil in the GM world at the time. The final Vibe was built in August 2009. This car was built in July of 2009, just before the end. It was living in West Texas just prior to coming to Colorado. El Paso is about a ten-hour drive from this car's current location. Once in the Centennial State, it got parked somewhere it shouldn't have been and ended up being auctioned to Pick Your Part. An occupant of this Vibe had time to sample some of the local agricultural products before that happened.
