1998 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM

This Pontiac Trans Am was a private purchase from the original owner. The seller knew the previous owner and had been trying to purchase it for a few years. The car is mostly original with the exception of one accident with the first owner. Car has bills to show it has had regular maintenance.

Paint – The paint is very nice, shiny, and smooth. Believed to be mostly original with the exception of the front end. The original paint does match all the way around. Under just the right circumstances with the right light and angle you will see that the front nose & bumper assembly and the light covers are just a shade off from the rest of the car.(see pictures) Upon inspecting the passenger door (just above the molding with looking up close with a flash light) you will notice a few pin head size bubbles in the paint. The car has picked up a few nicks from normal usage on the passenger head light cover and nose of the car(above license plate). Misc chips include, the passenger door (front and back edge), lower part of right fender, two small nicks behind right rear tire and a light scratch about eight to ten inches long near the right rear exhaust outlet. Over all the paint has held up extremely well with little exposure.

BODY- The body looks very nice and straight but being extremely critical, there are two minor dimples (right and left rear corners. ) Doors and body panels appear to be fitting correctly. According to a magnetic gauge, rear quarters and the hood are the only major steel portions of the car (on the outside skin.) The doors and front fenders are all composite materials or non magnetic. Trunk could have been adjusted to the left slightly and the front has a gap between the right head lamp cover and the fender that appears tighter than it should be.

BRIGHT WORK- Described in tire and wheel section.

GLASS- Both side windows, windshield, and rear window are all the same make (EZ, Kool by LOF) All glass is very clear with no discoloring, delamination, bulls-eyes, cracks, or wiper marks. Only possible place for wear would be few pin head size nicks on the windshield that are from normal driving. There is no damage or cracking on the T-tops.

INTERIOR- No obvious changes or replacements have been made with the interior. The dash and controls show very little wear at all and the rest of the interior all seems to be intact. Console and glass holder appears to be a shade lighter in coloring. The sun visor material is fastened well and the backing is not deteriorated. The headliner has no loose spots or damage and still retains good color. Seats show slight wear (which is normal) and could use a leather softener. You will notice a little wear on driver side upholstery and some light scuffing the on bottom of the door trim. Over all the interior has held up very well!

TRUNK- Shows very little wear, just a little dust and animal hair. With a vacuum it would clean up very nice. Mini spare and the jack mechanism is in place where it is stored under the right rear speaker. Trunk has holder for both T- tops and shades.

TIRES AND WHEELS- All four tires are Cooper Cobra radial tires. Fronts and rears are P 245-50-16, and tread depth on all tires are 6 /32. There is no cracking or curb damage to the tire and wheels.

Left front- P245/50/16 6/32 Right front- P245/50/16 6/32

Left rear-P245/50/16 6/32 Right rear- P245/50/16 6/32

ENGINE/ TRANSMISSION- Engine compartment has some dust but no obvious changes from factory except a new battery. Nothing appears to be modified except the installation of the Corsa Exhaust system.

TEST DRIVE- Windshield wipers work on both speeds and washers do function. The air conditioner does cool thought it may be a little low on refrigerant. A/C is not as cold as I believe it could be. The rear defroster light does operate, and the selector for heat and ventilation appears to work in all modes. Radio works on both AM and FM and disc player operates correctly. All other radio buttons seem to be working correctly. The power door looks, steering wheels controls, horn, trunk and hood release work. Power windows on left and right both work and both of the power mirrors operate. The locking mechanism on the T- tops work correctly. Antenna does work, head lights all work on high and low beam, and fog lights operate. Front and rear(left and right side) blinkers work.

CHASSIS- It is very evident (looking at the bottom side of the car) it has not been exposed to much weathering. Only slight surface rust on the front suspension component. The rest of the bottom side shows hardly any surface rust at all. (see pictures) There is a little bit of seeping from the A/C compressor. You will notice only a slight dampness around the rear end. It is apparent this car has had little exposure to the elements. There is no rust proofing or undercoating hiding the underside. This is a great way to verify how little the vehicle has been out in the weather.

Welcome to Auto Connection
Connecting buyers and sellers of unique vehicles

Conditions of Sale:
Auto Connection is NOT a car dealer; but more like a real estate agent. They are a 3rd party agent, representing both buyer AND seller. The vehicles they sell are from private owners and collectors, and they provide advertising, marketing, and consulting services for individuals, companies, or dealers.

The Auto Connection representative has physically viewed the item being sold. The information comes from the seller and other research sources. Auto Connection is not responsible for any misrepresentation by the seller and/or errors in research results, including history statements of vehicle history, repairs, etc.

This vehicle is being sold AS IS and without a warranty, unless otherwise stated.

Information about serial numbers, engine numbers, and any other codes does not guarantee a vehicle’s authenticity. These codes and numbers are not guaranteed to be the same as the information on the vehicle ID or vin, trim tag, engine block, cylinder heads, transmission, differential, or other components within this vehicle. Auto Connection does not guarantee documentation, authenticity, repairs, mechanical work, titles, odometer discrepancies, matching numbers, stamped engines, casting numbers, or any other codes, tags, or numbers. The potential for reproduction paper documentation exists, as well as restamped engines and reproduced trim/data tags.

Auto Connection has described this vehicle to the best of their knowledge, but does not guarantee the accuracy of the description. Prospective buyers are encouraged to conduct their own due diligence, including a physical inspection of the vehicle in person, or through a qualified third party inspector/appraiser. We welcome inspections and even have an 8 page professional vehicle inspection form you or your appraiser can use.

The vehicle will remain for sale until a buyer has placed a deposit on it. This deposit is nonrefundable with the exception of the vehicle being severely misrepresented by Auto Connection or the seller, or stipulated in the Bill of Sale.

It is possible that this vehicle will be sold at a higher price than the highest bid (before or after the auction ends), if the reserve is not met. After the sale (if reserve is met or not), Auto Connection must receive at least a 10% deposit (wire transfer or official bank or cashier’s check) within 3 days of the end of the auction (or the Bill of Sale is signed). The high bidder/buyer has 10 days from this time to send the balance in full or final payment and inspect the vehicle (or have a 3rd party professional inspection).

For the most part, the vehicle for sale is not “perfect”. It is unreasonable to assume that every single flaw in the paint, body, engine, etc. or any minor mechanical items (such as a light not working) be considered a reason to refuse the vehicle. Major rust/rot, undisclosed problems with the frame, etc. might constitute a legitimate reason for the buyer to refuse to follow through with the sale. In that situation, Auto Connection would negotiate with the seller and buyer to try to reach an agreeable solution.

The buyer acknowledges that he has had the opportunity to inspect the vehicle to verify it is as listed and represented. He accepts the vehicle with all advertised equipment, options and accessories in "AS IS" condition with any faults or defects. The buyer will bear all future costs of repairs or correcting any defects that exist or may occur in the future. The seller will have no responsibility or liability for any consequential damages or injury caused by any failure or malfunction of the vehicle or any components. This car is being offered for sale by owner. The buyer and seller acknowledge that if the transaction is consummated and a dispute occurs relating to the sale, the laws of Ohio (the state that the car is located/sold) govern the rights and duties under the agreement.

Michigan floods from breached dams consume Pontiac Fiero collection

Thu, May 21 2020

“WeÂ’ve never had an event like this,” Michigan's city manager Brad Kaye said in a Detroit News story. "What we're looking at is an event that is the equivalent of a 500-year flood." Kaye is referencing the catastrophic flood that occurred in central Michigan this week after heavy rainfall was compounded by two breached dams on the Tittabawassee River. Reports say the flooding forced evacuation of up to 10,000 residents, swallowed entire towns, and destroyed thousands of properties. No casualties have been reported, according to the Detroit Free Press, but car enthusiasts will be sad to learn a Pontiac Fiero shop and collection called Forever Fieros was decimated by the natural disaster. The Tittabawassee River is located about two hours, or roughly 140 miles, north of Detroit. It starts 20-30 miles further north and flows southeast as a tributary to the Saginaw Bay Watershed. Along the way, the Tittabawassee is held up by several dams, including the Edenville dam that failed and the Sanford dam that was breached during torrential downpours. According to NPR, the federal government took away the Edenville dam's license in 2018 and suggested it could not last through a major flood. Unfortunately, that prediction was proven accurate.  Forever Fieros is located in Sanford, Michigan, which is just below Sanford Lake, which is created by the Sanford dam. So when the Edenville dam north of Sanford broke, water from Wixom Lake flooded Sanford Lake, and a berm next to the Sanford dam was overwhelmed, according to MLive. Technically the dam did not fail, but the end result was the same: an entire town underwater. The Tittabawassee reportedly crested at 35 feet, or 10 feet above flood level and 1.1 feet higher than the previous record set in 1986. According to The Drive, the man in charge of Forever Fieros, Tim Evans, had time to attempt to save his vehicles from floodwater. He reportedly moved about 12 cars to a street that doesn't typically flood, but the water level was simply too high for that to matter. A floating pole barn also reportedly struck and damaged the  Forever Fieros building.  Worsening the situation is the fact that Evans was planning to hold an auction to sell many of the Fieros. As seen on Industrial Bid, he planned to sell 12 Fieros, Fiero GTs and a Fiero Formula, ranging from 1984 through 1988. The lots included a 1984 pace car, a Lamborghini Countach kit car, and a Fiero Cosworth Pontiac Super Duty 16-valve DOHC engine.

This KITT replica sold at auction for $32,500

Thu, Apr 23 2020

UPDATE: This 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am KITT replica officially sold for $32,500. Here's hoping the new owner has a blast throwin' it into Pursuit Mode. Let's get one thing straight right off the bat: This isn't a perfect KITT replica. The original KITT used in the Knight Rider TV series was based on a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The one you see above, which is currently for sale at auction site Bring A Trailer, is a 1987 model, and since it's a GTA edition, it has some extra body cladding that the smooth-sided television car lacked. That aside, most casual observers would probably never notice the difference, and even those who did (like us) are still likely to be impressed by the car's transformation. This KITT replica is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. It ought to be fairly quick, though quite a bit shy of the fictional car's very fictional 300-mph top speed. We're not exactly Knight Rider experts, but some quick Google sleuthing suggests that the Knight Industries Two Thousand supposedly cost more than $11,000,000 to build in Hollywoodland. This one will surely command a significantly lower sum — as of this writing, it's been bid up to $18,000 with four days remaining on the auction. This content is hosted by a third party. There are several videos of the car that detail its modifications inside and out, but suffice it to say it seems to be a well-sorted replica. Here's hoping its new owner keeps it well clear of other KARRs. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Junkyard Gem: 2008 Pontiac G5 Coupe

Sun, Apr 9 2023

In the grim early days of the Great Recession, the situation at GM's Pontiac Division didn't feel so great but there was some cause for optimism. The Solstice still had a certain glow, the Holden Commodore-based G8 had just arrived, and vehicle shoppers could stride into their local Pontiac showrooms and choose from eight different models bearing the iconic arrowhead badge. Yes, there were still new Torrents and Grand Prix and Vibes for sale in 2008, and of course the Cavalier-twin Sunfire had been replaced by the Cobalt-twin G5 by that time. Here's one of those G5s, found in a Colorado Springs car graveyard. It wasn't long after this car was built that everything went to hell for Pontiac. In April of 2009, GM announced that the Pontiac Division would be "phased out" over the next few years. Just to drive home the point, GM itself filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy five weeks later. GM had already offed Oldsmobile—a marque dating back to 1897, making it nearly 30 years Pontiac's senior—five years earlier, so everybody knew there would be no reprieve in this case. Just to confuse everybody, Pontiac dealers offered a G3-badged Chevy Aveo (aka Daewoo Kalos) to sell alongside the G5 for 2009, but by 2010 there were just two new Pontiac models still standing in the United States: the G6 and the Vibe. Just over 70,000 G5s were sold in the United States during the 2007-2009 model years, making these cars fairly rare. The Cobalt/G5 ignition-switch fiasco of the mid-2010s really hammered their resale value at the time. Sometimes the definition of "Gem" refers to historical value, not the happier kind. Speaking of ignition switches, the key is still in this one. That generally means that a junkyard vehicle is a dealership trade-in or insurance total that couldn't sell at auction. This one is a base model, which listed at $15,675 (about $22,040 in 2023 dollars). The snazzier G5 GT started at $19,850 ($27,911 now) that year. The engine in this car is a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-banger rated at 148 horsepower and 152 pound-feet (the GT got a 2.4 with 171 hp/167 lb-ft). A five-speed manual was standard equipment, but the buyer of this car paid extra for the automatic. GM stuck these little "Mark of Excellence" badges on the fenders of its vehicles starting in 2005, then ditched the idea in 2009. I have vivid memories of this logo from the seatbelt buttons in my parents' 1973 Sportvan Beauville.
