Rare! Firebird 400 4 Spd (almost #s Matching) Starlgt Bk Ralley Stripe Bk Ca Plt on 2040-cars
Farmington, Utah, United States
Vehicle Title:Clear
Make: Pontiac
Drive Type: rear wheel drive
Model: Firebird
Mileage: 120,400
Trim: Coupe
This is a super cool, very unique '68 Firebird 400! I have owned this car for 7 years now and hate to see it go. I am a avid car collector and only acquire cars with higher collectibility. It's time to down size and make room. Bid with confidence, I have recently sold 2 other of my cars here on ebay to happy buyers (please view my feedback). This Firebird is an incredibly solid car. Its an original Starlight Black/Ralley Stripe, PHS Documented 400 4 speed, Black Plate California car. This car has lived in southern California its whole life until I bought it in '06 from Lake Elsinor. I am the third owner and searched high and low for years for a car like this. I was after 3 things, a solid original body, 400 4 speed and an original (A-A) Starlight Black paint scheme.
This Firebird has rich history and documentation unlike any other! This car originally sold at Mission Pontiac of San Bernardino California. The car has its original Build sheet, Protector Plate, Warranty Card, First 3 consecutive California Registrations, L P Stevens & CO inc carpet tag dated 1/8/68, the original keys and original California Black Plates. What's so special about this Firebird is how the original owner's name, Gary Webb corresponds on the majority of the original documents, starting with the Protecto plate, of which the includes the WZ engine code. All 3 registrations have Gary Webb on them along with the Warranty Card.
The factory options on this car are: AM/FM radio, 400 4 speed, Special order Starlight Black, Console, 3.36 rearend, Hood Tach, Ralley Stripes. An interesting feature of this car is the "Bird Glass" etching on the side glass which appeared only on select early '68 Firebirds. Also, this car came with the "tall style" Hood Tach which was a dealer installed. The tall style was used on early '68s.
The interior is all original except for the new carpet, new headliner and sun visors of which turned out perfect, no unwanted waves. The seats and door panels are actually in real decent shape, there are no tears and it all still look good. The console however was shortened in the front to make room for aftermarket A/C
The car drives nicely down the road, no rattles, and runs well. As mentioned in the title description, this car is (almost #s matching) but it has a 400 out of a 1970 Grand Prix which runs really well, however I did find a correct perfectly date coded 1968 400 engine with a correct 9790071 casting number for this car. The engine date code precedes the body build date (11D) by about 2 and a half months just as it should from the factory. I will include this complete engine for free to the winning bidder but the buyer is responsible for shipping. This engine is virgin and is still standard inside. The rest of the car is numbers matching original. The VIN number is stamped on top of the Muncie with the correct date code and the rearend has the correct 9793019 casting number and J067 date code along with the correct XG 3:36 code stamp. The car still has the original exhaust as well believe it or not! Take a look at the pictures with the oval exhaust tips and the original hangar brackets. The exhuast sounds soo nice, a very unique exhaust note.
As mentioned before, this car is very solid, next to rust free and I would love to call it rust free, but it does have VERY MINOR rust on it. The lower front door corners, lower rear quarters and front part of the passenger fender has rust in it, the rest of the car is rust free and solid and incredibly straight. There is ONLY one dent on the passenger rear quarter the size of a nickel (see picture). The car has never been in a major accent, it has all original body panels including the fenders, hood, trunk lid, doors, quarter panels, and floors. The doors, trunk and hood shut very nicely with little effort. All the body panels fit together very well incuding all body lines and gaps. The trunk pan is original, rust free and solid. The floor boards are also original and super solid. The lower window channels are in great shape and rust free. The rockers are rust free too. This is definitely a car worth the tedious nut and bolt restoration and wont be a basket case, full of rust.
You'll notice a lot of times that people will change the color of their '68 firebird to black being that it is the color of choice, this '68 Bird you don't have to do that to, it is the real deal Starlight Black! Again I really regret to see this car go, but would like see it go to a good home . Thanks for Looking!

2020 Porsche 911 Speedster spied with an angry driver
Wed, Feb 13 2019Porsche gave us details and showed us a concept of the 911 Speedster at the Paris Motor Show. Today, we bring you spy shots of what appears to be the production version of that concept with a few changes on board. They're rather minimal modifications, but the Speedster's driver appears especially angry with our spy photographer as he extends his middle finger directly toward the camera. Sorry, not sorry, Mr. Test Driver. Public testing of pre-production cars always comes with photo risks, and Porsches tend to attract more attention than others. You'll notice what appears to be a Cayenne Coupe prototype we've previously spotted running around with the 911. The Speedster Concept we saw in Paris had epic retro mirrors and fuel cap on the front hood, but both those design touches are absent from this pre-production car. It's tougher to see, but we lost the vents in between the two humps, as well. Everything else appears to have made it to production-spec. We can't say we're surprised these concept car features probably won't show up on the production car, but it is a tad deflating. You'll notice the Speedster is based-off the 991.2 generation of 911 and not the new 992. Porsche did a similar thing when the 997 generation was coming to an end with a Speedster model paying tribute to that car's life. The chassis is said to utilize parts from the 911 GT3, and the wonderful naturally aspirated flat-six engine gets carried over from that car, too. Porsche didn't specify if power will be exactly the same as the GT3, but we'll be expecting about 500 horsepower and a 9,000 rpm redline. We were told the six-speed manual would be offered on the Speedster in Paris, too. Let's just say that we strongly approve of that combination. Production will be limited to only 1,948 cars and begin in the first half of this year. We'll expect a reveal with a full spec breakdown soon, possibly for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Junkyard Gem: 1964 Pontiac Catalina Custom Ventura
Mon, May 22 2023Like Impala, Skylark, Malibu and Silverado (among many others), the Ventura name began its career as the designation for a trim level or option package used on another GM model, then became a model name in its own right. Initially a designation for a snazzed-up Pontiac Catalina two- or four-door hardtop, the Ventura name moved over to a Pontiac-ized version of the Chevy Nova for 1971. Today's Junkyard Gem, found in a Northern California car graveyard, proudly bears both Catalina and Ventura badging. Actually, the Catalina name itself started out as a trim level for the Chieftain and Star Chief models of the 1950s, just to confuse everybody. By the time this car was built, the Catalina was the cheapest of four Pontiac models built on the same full-size B-Body platform as the big Chevrolets and Olds 88s of the time (the Star Chief, Bonneville and Grand Prix ranked above it on the 1964 Pontiac Prestige-O-Meter). The 1964 Catalina four-door hardtop with the Custom Ventura package offered a lot of swank per dollar, with a price starting at $3,063. That's about $29,821 when converted to inflated 2023 dollars. The main benefit of the Custom Ventura package was an interior done up entirely in Morrokide upholstery. Morrokide was the name GM applied to Naugahyde fake leather when used in Pontiac vehicles; when used in Buicks, it was known as Cordaveen, while Oldsmobile Naugahyde was called Morocceen. Naugahyde took its name from the town of Naugatuck, Connecticut, where it was invented. This car's Morrokide is in rough shape. In fact, everything about this car is decayed and probably infectious. You know to be careful when a junkyard car has warnings about rat feces inked on the glass. That said, I couldn't resist examining the 8-track tapes that littered the interior. Here's Hotel California, the 1976 hit album by the Eagles. Supertramp's Paris, a live album recorded from the 1979 Breakfast in America tour, is here as well. Here's The Best of Carly Simon, from 1975. The tapes were played on this Sparkomatic player, which probably lived in the glovebox or under the seat. The factory radio was AM-only, and includes the frequency markings for the atomic-attack CONELRAD emergency frequencies. 1964 was the last year for mandatory CONELRAD radios in the United States.
GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes
Mon, 31 Mar 2014When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
