Pontiac Firebird 400 on 2040-cars
Stirling, New Jersey, United States
Sweet 1968 Firebird 400 - Excellent Silver paint I've owned this baby for 25 years. Other than the wrong side view mirrors and some dress up chrome, this vehicle is all stock! Car is extremely close to stock, including 400/engine with quadrabog carb, drum breaks all the way around; cast iron manifolds; points and condenser, etc. I do have the original rally wheels, valve covers and air cleaner to bring it closer to stock. This is a solid must see car, priced to sell. I'm looking for a new Firebird project, so I know whats out there and this cars is a gem. Only serious offers please. Local viewing encouraged. Some Additional Details I've been in the car business since I was 14, that's over 40 years around cars. My family has owned a Pontiac Cadillac dealership here in NJ since 1955, so I know many people in every aspect of the auto industry. Some stuff was done at the dealership, some was sent to friends and vendors I've known for all these years. I have receipts for most parts purchased -- Ames, Year One, parts stores, etc. The restoration was started around 1990. The engine was pulled early in the process and resealed, and heads sent to my local speed shop. The trans was done in house by our master tech who has now passed on. The engine code is YS which is period correct. The body is solid; I replaced some small patches around the wheel openings, but nothing major. The paint was done around 1999 in a 2000 Pontiac color code #13 Bright Silver metallic, which is a base coat / clear coat application -- very, very nice job. The rear is original to my knowledge with low highway gears. The speedo says 160 and I bet it will do it. I replaced the driver seat cover, headliner and package shelf. This is the first time it's been on e-bay and the e-mails are many. I never thought I would sell it, but I have only put approx 5000 miles on it in all this time, and now I'm parting ways with my baby.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am
Wed, 15 May 2013When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
This GTO-El Camino mashup is the muscle truck of our dreams
Fri, Aug 31 2018There were a hell of a lot of great muscle cars in the mid-1960s, from the baroque Dodges and Plymouths of the earlier part of the decade to the wild big boys like the Boss 429 and Olds 442 W30. Right in the middle of the decade, two of the most iconic of the bunch emerged — the Pontiac GTO and second-generation Chevy El Camino. And this one is a 1964 Chevy El Camino with the heart and face of its GTO cousin, and dubbed the El Chieftain GTO. It's currently for sale at RM Sotheby's Auburn auction, with no reserve status or estimate listed. This looks like a product that Pontiac could have sold at the time — its builder, Ron Lindeman, did an excellent job making it look like a factory product, right down to the taillight strakes inspired by the GTO. It's powered by a 389 — a Pontiac motor that was actually found in period GTOs, but sporting a single four-barrel instead of the sexy Tri-Power setup. It is, however, equipped with a Hurst four-speed manual and the grille badge to prove it to bystanders. Even the interior is made up to look like a GTO. We wish there was more of a description of the build in the listing, but if you love it, do us one better and buy the thing and invite us to poke around it. We are very much in love with this muscle-truck mashup. GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes
Mon, 31 Mar 2014When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
