London, Kentucky, United States
SUNRISE AUTOMOTIVE LLC IS OFFERING 1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM UP FOR AUCTION. I HAVE SHOT 315 PICTURES TO EXPOSE EVERY SQUARE INCH OF THIS JEWEL. THIS T/A RETAINS MOST OF IT'S ORIGINAL MAYAN RED PAINT. THIS CAR WAS BUILT IN VAN NUYS CALIFORNIA SO IT HAS WATERBORNE PAINT COMPARED TO THE MORE DURABLE LACQUER PAINT THAT WAS USED AT THE NORWOOD OHIO PLANT. THE CALIFORNIA BUILT CARS PAINT DID NOT HOLD UP AS WELL AS THE OHIO BUILT CARS. AMAZING ENOUGH THAT THIS CAR STILL HAS PAINT ON IT! PLEASE LOOK AT THE PICTURES CLOSELY, THE PAINT IS OLD AND VERY THIN. A VERY SOLID CAR OVERALL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BOTH LOWER DOG LEGS ON THE QUARTER PANELS BEHIND THE WHEEL FLARES. THE DRIVERS DOOR, THE RIGHT FENDER AND THE DECK LID (ALL IN PHOTOS). THE FLOORS, ROCKERS, TAIL PANEL, REAR FRAME RAILS, HOOD, TOE BOARDS ARE ALL GOOD. THIS IS A DECENT DRIVER OR A PERFECT CANDIDATE FOR A FULL RESTORATION WITHOUT THE HEADACHE OF METAL WORK ALL OVER. THE ORIGINAL 403 ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A REBUILT 350. THE ENGINE HAS HEADERS THAT LEAK A LITTLE CONNECTED TO A FULL EXHAUST THAT SOUNDS GOOD. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS SET UP FOR MANUAL SHIFTING AND DOES QUITE WELL. THE TRANS DOES LEAK A LITTLE AFTER SITTING. THE POSI REAR END APPEARS TO BE STOCK. THE CAR COULD USE SOME TUNING DUE TO SITTING SO LONG. ALL IN ALL, IT RUNS GOOD. ALL THE A/C COMPONENTS ARE MISSING. THE BRAKES FEEL GOOD AND STOP WELL. THE B.F. GOODRICH TIRES ARE VERY OLD AND IN FACT THEY HAVE THE OLD TREAD DESIGN. THE LIGHTS, CLOCK, TACH, FUEL, VOLTS AND OIL GAUGE WORK GOOD. THE SPEEDOMETER AND TEMP GAUGE DO NOT WORK. ALL THE GLASS IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE TRUNK FLOOR HAS A WRINKLE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT, BUT NO RUST. THE INTERIOR IS FAIR WITH THE FRONT SEATS HAVE COVERS ON THEM AND LOOK TO BE WHITE. THE REAR SEATS HAVE A TEAR ON THE UPPER BACK. THE DASH PAD HAS SOME CRACKS. THE CARPET IS OK. THE CONSOLE HAS SOME ALTERATIONS FOR SPEAKERS AT SOMETIME. THE CRUISE LEVER HAS BEEN TAPED TOGETHER. THE MILES ARE UNKNOWN. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CALL OR EMAIL US WITH ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING THIS TRANS AM. PLEASE VISIT OUR FACEBOOK PAGE (SUNRISE AUTOMOTIVE LLC) WE KNOW THESE CARS VERY WELL. THIS IS A CAR WITH ENDLESS POTENTIAL AND A GREAT COLOR TO BOOT! ENJOY DRIVING THE T/A THIS SUMMER AND MAYBE START RESTORING THIS WINTER.

Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken
Fri, Feb 8 2019Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.
GM Recalls 1.5 Million Cars For Steering Defect
Tue, Apr 1 2014General Motors Co. said Monday it is recalling 1.5 million vehicles worldwide because the electronic power-steering assist can suddenly stop working, making them harder to steer. The new recall brings to 6.3 million the number of vehicles GM has recalled since February. The initial recall - now at 2.6 million small cars for an ignition switch defect - prompted the automaker to name a new safety chief and speed up the review of cases that might lead to recalls. GM said it expects recall-related costs to total $750 million in the first quarter, including $300 million for the ignition switch recall. Included in the new recall are: - Chevrolet Malibu from the 2004-2005 model years, plus some 2006, 2008 and 2009 model-year cars. - Chevrolet Malibu Maxx from the 2004-2005 model years, plus some 2006 model-year cars. - Chevrolet HHR from the 2009-2010 model years (non-turbocharged only). - Some Chevrolet Cobalts from the 2010 model year. - Some Saturn Auras from the 2008-2009 model years. - Saturn Ion from the 2004-2007 model years. - Pontiac G6 from the 2005 model year, plus some cars from the 2006, 2008 and 2009 model years. - Service parts installed into certain vehicles before May 31, 2010, under a previous recall GM says no deaths related to the defect have been reported. It is still investigating whether there have been any accidents or injuries related to the problem. GM dealers will replace the power steering motor and other parts for free. Spokesman Alan Adler said owners will be notified of the recall the week of April 28 and will be told when parts are available after that. The Cobalt and the Ion, which are also involved in the ignition switch recall, share many common parts.GM recalled Cobalts from the 2005-2010 model years for the power steering defect in 2010, but it's unclear why the company didn't recall the Ion at the same time. Federal regulators also opened an investigation into power steering complaints in the Ion in 2010, but didn't order a recall. Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap
Tue, 30 Sep 2014Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
