1978 Pontiac Formula Firebird with numbers matching 350 CI Chevy V8. Back in those days GM put different GM motors in all of their brands, this car happened to get a Chevy 350. The engine has a new alternator, water pump, belts/hoses, edelbrock air gap intake, edelbrock 650 CFM 4 BBL carb, headers, ignition parts and battery. This car was originally a 4 speed but somebody replaced it with a TH350 auto trans. Transmission was cleaned and flushed and I installed a B&M quicksilver shifter, the shifter fits nicely in the stock console. The car has new tires, front brakes, wheels bearings and front shocks. The paint and interior are about a year old and look very nice. The paint is a base coat/clear coat system. The entire exhaust system was replaced and new flowmaster mufflers were installed,,,,,sounds great. The car has power steering and power brakes but does not have air conditioning. I use the car as a weekend driver and take it to the occasional car show, it runs and drives very nicely. The car is 95% complete. Some little things need to be done to finish: Dome light connected, speedo reads incorrect, fan motor, new radio installed (I have one and comes with the car), fuel gauge is inoperative and new door glass installed. I have the new windows still in the boxes and they come with car, I never got around to installing them. To make the window installation easier, I installed the door panels with only the arm rests holding them in place. They are sturdy but can be removed easily to replace the glass. If you plan on driving the car home, I would recommend having someone with an SUV/truck come along because I don't think both windows in their boxes will fit in the car. This is a real car that I'm really trying to sell. I've set a very realistic reserve price, well below $9K. Most hard core car show people would call this car a "driver" while the average person would think it's an excellent car. When I take the car out I get alot of waves, thumbs up, compliments or the occasional "I had a Firebird in High School" story. This car took about a year to do in my spare time. I do this as a hobby and it's time to find a new project, that's why I'm selling. I've included a few pictures of the car before paint and during restoration to give you an idea of the condition before I got it. It was basically a rust free car that needed very little body work. Happy bidding, thanks. |

Junkyard Gem: 2010 Pontiac Vibe
Wed, Apr 17 2024Just over a month before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2009, General Motors announced that the 83-year-old Pontiac Division would be "phased out" by the end of 2010. Only three Pontiac vehicles were sold as 2010 models in the United States: the Solstice, Vibe and G6 (new G3s were sold here during 2010 but they were all 2009 models, while the G5 was available as a 2010 model only in Canada and Mexico). Today's bit of junkyard automotive history is one of the very last Vibes ever built, found in a yard near Denver, Colorado. This car is significant not just as one of the final vehicles to bear Pontiac badges but also as one of the last cars built by the New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated GM-Toyota joint venture in California, better known as NUMMI. The NUMMI factory began life as GM's Fremont Assembly, which built its first vehicle (a C-Series pickup) in 1963 and closed in 1982 after building its final vehicle (an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera). Rebooted as NUMMI, the first 1985 Chevrolet Nova (an Americanized AE82 Toyota Corolla Sprinter) rolled off the line in December of 1984. A quarter-century and better than eight million vehicles hence, NUMMI shut down production after its last Corolla was finished on April 1, 2010. While there was some noise about the Oakland Athletics building a new stadium on the site at the time, Tesla ended up buying most of the site soon after that. Tesla now builds more vehicles per year there than NUMMI ever did. The Vibe was co-developed with Toyota and based on the same platform as the ninth-generation Corolla. The Toyota Matrix was mechanically identical and was built in Canada, while the Japanese-market version (known as the Toyota Voltz) was built on the same NUMMI line as the Vibe and shipped across the Pacific. The Vibe/Matrix/Voltz got a redesign for the 2009 model year, but few noticed due to all the turmoil in the GM world at the time. The final Vibe was built in August 2009. This car was built in July of 2009, just before the end. It was living in West Texas just prior to coming to Colorado. El Paso is about a ten-hour drive from this car's current location. Once in the Centennial State, it got parked somewhere it shouldn't have been and ended up being auctioned to Pick Your Part. An occupant of this Vibe had time to sample some of the local agricultural products before that happened.
BMX rider flips for wrecked Detroit football stadium
Fri, Jun 12 2015Detroit is littered with derelict ruins. Abandoned automotive assembly plants, sure – but also former sports venues, like Tiger Stadium in Corktown, Roesink Stadium in Hamtramck, and the Silverdome in Pontiac. BMX rider Tyler Fernengel remembers going to see the Lions and Pistons play at the Silverdome in his youth, and competed there in Supercross as a boy. The stadium hasn't been used in years, but now, with his career just picking up, Tyler has returned to film this video – riding through its halls, jumping its stairwells and flipping over its grandstands and field. It's a fitting tribute to a once-great venue of suburban Michigan. Check out the footage in this latest clip from Red Bull. GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems
Mon, 30 Jun 2014General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
