1969 Pontiac Firebird - Solid Original Sheetmetal Car - Must See! on 2040-cars
Sellersville, Pennsylvania, United States
Why waste your time on a car that needs quarter panels, floorpans, and rockers? You won't find a more solid original sheetmetal car for this price! When working with a car that has had new quarter panels, floor pans, or other sheetmetal you always have to question how square and proper everything is. Not with this car, it is all Genuine GM sheetmetal from 1969, as it was produced on the assembly line!
Up for sale is a 1969 Pontiac Firebird. This car came to Pennsylvania by way of Georgia and it's solid state is a clear indication of that. All of the sheetmetal is ORIGINAL GM sheetmetal. Not NOS stuff, not aftermarket replacements, all original solid metal. You will be very hard pressed to find another project car in this condition in the northeast! The car has a Pontiac 350 V8 with a 2bbl carb on top. It was originally a 3 speed with a Borg-Warner Transmission but has been converted to a 4 speed with a Muncie M21 and Hurst shifter. This is a console equipped car. The Borg-Warner 3 speed is included with the car however. The car has manual brakes and four wheel drums but has Power Steering and Air Conditioning. Air Conditioning state is unknown but the compressor spins free by hand. This car was repainted in the early 1990s with Dupont enamel paint. It was then parked outside on a pavement lot for approximately 10 years. For the past 10 years it has been stored indoors in a garage. The paint is in poor condition and peeling in a few areas. The car also has over spray on it from another project. Just about all of the parts for this care are there and in good condition. Some of the chrome could polish up, other parts(both bumpers) need to be rechromed. The weatherstripping is all dried out and worn out. The interior is in pretty good condition overall. A solid cleaning and a new headliner may well fix it right up. The car has a salvage title due to being purchased after it was abandoned in Bethlehem PA in the early 1990s. We cannot find a single bit of evidence that the car has ever been wrecked, it was just left unloved on the streets. The car was purchased from an impound yard by my Dad(the current owner. The floor pans, rocker panels, doors, roof, right fenders, hood, and trunk lid are all in EXCELLENT shape with only surface rust present. The left front fender has some rot at the bottom of it right by the A-pillar(photo included) and the left quarter panel has some serious bubbling starting at the bottom of the rear section. A skilled person could very easily patch these pieces up and save them from needing full replacement. I have worked on a lot of first generation F-body cars and I've never seen one in such good original condition outside of garage kept from day one car. This would be an extremely good base for a crazy custom project or just a mild restoration. Getting a driving title in the State of PA would be simple. The restoration shop where I work can help you with that when the car is ready. |

Pontiac Aztek enjoys rebirth thanks to Millennials
Fri, Sep 11 2015Apparently, Millennials – those between 18 and 34 – aren't afraid to look different on the road, and they like performance, too. A new study by Edmunds is discovering some surprising vehicle choices by this group. Among them, the long-derided Pontiac Aztek is getting a new day in the sun with 25.5 percent its buyers coming from this generation in the first half of 2015. For comparison, Millennials represent an average of 16.8 percent of used car purchases. The Aztek is slowly shaking its reputation as a styling abomination, which seems tied to its appearance on Breaking Bad. The show premiered in 2008, and the Pontiac has been on this list for four of the past five years, according to Edmunds. It even led the pack in 2010. A recent Retro Review from MotorWeek also showed that the crossover wasn't always so hated. While it's still a shock to see the Aztek on any popularity list, the awkward-looking crossover only ranks sixth among Millennials. The vehicle with the biggest portion of buyers from the generation is the Dodge Magnum with 27.6 percent. According to Edmunds, the bluntly styled wagon is especially popular in Detroit and Chicago. The Chrysler Pacifica comes in a close second at 27.3 percent. When it comes to used cars, value and utility appear to trump just about anything else for many Millennial buyers," Edmunds analyst Jeremy Acevedo said in the report. Young buyers aren't afraid of sporty rides, either. The Subaru WRX has 26.4 percent Millennial buyers to rank third place on the list, and the Volkswagen R32 takes fifth at 25.7 percent. Just a few points lower in seventh place is the Nissan GT-R at 25.4 percent, and the final performance machine in 10th place is the Lexus IS-F with 24.7 percent. Related Video:
'We're not a hedge fund': Porsche plans to curtail speculators and flippers
Tue, May 30 2017A sizable number of speculators view cars as an investment. Rare or unusual models are quickly snapped up and either parked for years or flipped for a profit. Cars from automakers like Porsche and Ferrari are more prone than others, and at least some people behind these models are getting a bit tired of it. While it's difficult to police what goes on after you sell a car, Porsche has some plans that might curtail the problem before it starts. Andreas Preuninger, the head of GT road-car development and the man behind the new 911 GT3, spoke to Car and Driver at a recent event. "I personally like to see my cars being used," he said. "That's what we build them for. They are just too good to be left to stand and collect dust." One recent example of this rampant speculation is the 911 R. While the special manual-only model sold for $185,950 when new, used versions were selling for nearly $1.3 million just months after it went on sale. While the car is a masterpiece and an instant classic, a good number will be parked and simply used as art and not the rolling testaments to the man/machine interface they were intended to be. The concern over valuations has become so fierce that some owners are upset that Porsche is offering the new 911 GT3 with a manual transmission, fearing that it may hurt the value of the 911 R. "When I said we're not a hedge fund, I'm talking to those people who are yelling at us for offering the manual transmission similar to the R," Preuninger said. "But if there are people wanting to buy cars like that, then as a company we should try to fulfill that, to meet that demand." It seems Porsche is keeping a close eye on who is flipping cars. Since there is often far more demand than supply with certain models, the German automaker has a name for every car before it's built. Buyers with bad reputations might not even make the wait list. Woodward Dream Cruise Photo Gallery | Classics and American muscle
Sun, Aug 21 2022The 2022 running of the Woodward Dream Cruise just went down, and we were there from morning to evening drinking in the sweet sights and pre-emissions exhaust fumes. Yes, it’s a little smelly on Woodward Ave. this time of year. Just like always, the Dream Cruise invites all comers to cruise their machines on Woodward from Ferndale, MI to Pontiac, MI. Everybody is invited, but the original intent of the Dream Cruise was to highlight classic American muscle cars. YouÂ’ll see plenty of those in our mega gallery above, but weÂ’ve sprinkled it with a bunch of other vehicle types, such as modern muscle and other intriguing American vehicles. Similar to years past, though, sometimes the classics arenÂ’t the most entertaining thing to look at on Woodward. ThatÂ’s why weÂ’ll have other mega galleries coming soon, highlighting the weird cars and (great) dogs of the Cruise, all the imports and exotics you can imagine and a special one for all the trucks of Woodward — perhaps even more so than in years past, the truck population on Dream Cruise day was quite high. Click through above to see all the classics you wouldÂ’ve seen had you been roadside on the day of the cruise. And if you missed this yearÂ’s event, make sure you check out what happens next year. You wonÂ’t be alone, as itÂ’s estimated that over 1 million people attend the Dream Cruise to either watch from the side of the road or to sit in the most glorious traffic jam in the world.
