1967 Firebird Convertible 400 4-speed on 2040-cars

This auction is for a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible 400 4-speed car. Originally a 326 car that now has a non-original 1967 Pontiac 400 engine (code YD) installed. The Muncie 4-speed transmission and 3.23 dual traction bar rear axle are original to the car. The car runs and drives well, but should be considered a project car. The body retains its solid rust free original floors, trunk pan (with original splatter paint), quarter panels and doors. The paint is old, worn, chipped and scratched. The passenger door has a large shallow dent, the passenger fender has three holes drilled for a mirror and the rear tail panel has a trailer plug installed (see photos). The door jams and the underside of the trunk lid still retail the factory applied white paint. All four cocktail shakers are still on the car. The manual top is torn and will need replacing. The car has new brakes (drum) and wheel cylinders, new tires with 14x6 rally ll wheels, new battery and cables, new fuel pump, new heater core and water pump, new stock exhaust system, new clutch and rebuilt stock 1967 4-speed quadrajet carburetor. The motor runs well with good oil pressure and does not smoke or leak oil, but has a faint knocking sound that comes and goes. The lifters also clatter for a few seconds after the car sits for a few days. When I purchased the car I was told the engine had at one time been rebuilt, but I have no receipts. The transmission shifts smoothly and has a Hurst shifter installed. The rear axle has the factory dual traction bars and operates quietly. The engine and engine compartment have been nicely painted and detailed. The car is equipped with black deluxe interior, factory wood wheel and new carpets have been installed. The driver’s seat bottom is torn and the dash has a 1/2 ” hole drilled under the headlight switch. The original AM radio works and the speaker has been re-coned. Everything on the car such as the lights, gauges, horn, wipers and heater work. The car was originally sold in Rhode Island and appears from some old receipts moved to Texas in early 1970. The car has been in California since the mid-seventies. I have the original protect-o-plate, owner’s manual and body broadcast sheet. This is a solid smooth running and driving project car. It won’t need floors or quarter panels installed. You can drive it as you work to improve its condition. This 47 year old car is sold with no warranties expressed or implied. I have done my best to accurately describe this car. The reserve price is fairly set and I will not reveal it, so no emails asking about what my reserve price is. The car is available for inspection before the auction ends. The time to inspect is before the auction ends, not after you purchase the car. Please only bid if you intend to purchase the car.

GM's got 107 problems and NHTSA's No. 1
Thu, Mar 6 2014General Motors' problems with its recall of roughly 1.6-million vehicles continue to mount. Now that it has emerged that GM knew about the problem since at least 2004 but waited to recall vehicles until February 2014, regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have begun a much deeper investigation. NHTSA has sent a 27-page survey to GM that includes 107 questions about the timeline of what led up to the recall, and it has until April 3 to reply. This isn't a simple, multiple-choice test. Automotive News believes that hundreds of pages could be required to answer some of the queries. NHTSA says that it is still investigating GM's response to the recall. "We are a data-driven organization, and we will take whatever action is appropriate based on where our findings lead us," said NHTSA in a statement on its website. If found liable, the automaker could face a fine as high as $35 million and even possible criminal charges, according to Bloomberg. NHTSA's questions include a detailed explanation of GM's examination process; how it will improve the process; why a planned redesign of the cars' key in 2005 wasn't implemented; and specific data on each complaint it received. According to Bloomberg, NHTSA also has records that show the company had a meeting with regulators to discuss the airbag failure in a Chevrolet Cobalt in 2007. New GM CEO Mary Barra has also hired an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation about what happened. It will include questioning company employees who were involved with the process from the start. The recall stems from faulty ignition switches that shut off the car while driving, and if it occurs the airbags deactivate. Florida man runs down bikers in traffic
Tue, May 31 2016A Florida biker and his passenger got a nasty surprise when a road rage incident turned ugly on Monday. According to WTSP, Joe Calderazzo was returning from a Veterans Memorial Day motorcycle rally around 5:30 pm with a group of fellow riders. During their ride, the group got entangled with an overly aggressive driver in a Pontiac. Abe Garcia of Tampa watched the silver Pontiac attempt to run the pack of bikers off the road, which started the altercation. The bikers caught up to the Pontiac in stopped traffic, and a shouting match ensued between the bikers and the Pontiac driver. At this point, Garcia pulled out his phone and started recording. The exchange escalated, and suddenly the Pontiac driver floored it, turned hard to the right, and ran over Calderazzo's Harley. The Pontiac mangled the Harley and knocked Calderazzo and his passenger to the ground. The Pontiac then fled the scene. WTSP spoke to Calderazzo as he was on his way to the hospital. "I thought the guy was trying to kill us obviously," said Calderazzo. "You know you don't know what's going through your mind. Is he going to put the car in reverse? Is he going to turn around? Is he going to stop and pull out a gun? You don't know what's going on." The Pontiac driver, a serial traffic offender named Robert Paul Vance, was picked up by police soon after the incident. He is charged with hit-and-run, a moving traffic violation, and aggravated battery. Junkyard Gem: 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT 30th Anniversary Edition
Mon, May 29 2023With the era of the 1960s-style muscle car ended by the ever-more-stringent emissions regulations, insurance costs and higher gasoline prices of the early 1970s, GM's Pontiac Division was ready with a lineup of flash-enhanced machines packed with (alleged) European-style performance and styling. Three of them were based on the midsize A Platform for 1973: the LeMans, the Grand Prix and the brand-new Grand Am. The 1973 Grand Am was cheaper than the luxed-up Grand Prix, but still had a BMW-ish interior and wild exterior styling; sales weren't great, but the 30th anniversary of this car seemed sufficiently momentous for Pontiac to create a special-edition package for its soon-to-be-axed successor. Here's one of these rare machines, spotted recently in a Denver car graveyard. The original rear-wheel-drive Grand Am was built for the 1973-1975 and 1978-1980 model years, but its similarity to the much cheaper LeMans kept sales numbers unimpressive. When the Grand Am name was revived for a Pontiac-badged compact on the front-drive N Platform in the 1985 model year, however, it became a big seller right away and stayed that way into our current century. The N-Body Grand Am was built through 2005, with platform updates for the 1992 and 1999 model years. Along the way, it was sibling to such cars as the Oldsmobile Calais, Buick Somerset, Chevrolet Beretta and Oldsmobile Alero. By 2003, though, the ground was shifting under Pontiac's feet. The iconic Firebird had been discontinued the previous year, and even the Grand Prix's days were officially numbered. Oldsmobile would be gone after 2004, and the entire Pontiac vehicle lineup would be shaken up soon after. The last year for the Grand Am (and the Sunfire) would be 2005, with the G6 taking its place. With all that going on, why not offer a 30th Anniversary package? After all, the Grand Prix got a 40th Anniversary Edition for 2002. Our reviewer described this car as "leaner, trimmer and more contemporary" at the time, but made no mention of the 30th Anniversary Edition. The VIN says this car is a top-grade GT1 sedan, with an MSRP of $22,325 (that's about $39,920 in 2023 dollars). Two engines were available in the 2003 Grand Am: a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder with 140 horsepower and a 3.4-liter pushrod V6 with either 170 or 175 horsepower. This car has the 175-horse V6, complete with "Ram Air" cold-air induction. That name goes way back in Pontiac history.
