This is my 1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula Edition, with a 3800 Series II L67 V6 motor swap, she is my babyThey made less then 6,000 of these cars making it pretty rare, and as the days go by, more and more collectible! The motor and transmission are from a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, that had roughly 40,000 miles when pulled. This is a project car, and is CURRENTLY NOT DRIVEABLE! I purchased the car from the Original owner family. It is a born and raised Georgia car with ZERO rust on the cradle or body, the only rust to speak of is some very minor surface rust on the battery tray. The tires are older, but show no signs of age, very sticky Yokohama AV1-60i with almost .300 tread left (over 1/4inch, almost like new). The battery was also new last year. The car has AC, but the system is not hooked up. The headlight motors work, The power window motors also work, but are slow. The paint is original and quite faded. it cleans up OK, but I had plans to repaint the car to its original glory. The body has very minor flaws the two most major I have pictured, and they are simply small cracks in the fiberglass panels. The interior is all original and complete. It is pretty clean, the drivers seat is torn, and the passengers seat has a small tear on the side (pictured). Odometer shows 182,595, but the title reads EXEMPT due to the age of the car. In Georgia as of 2013 it is able to register as a ANTIQUE vehicle, and that means no inspections, or emissions testing. The insurance on the car is very cheap, I paid $90 a month, where my 1997 Buick Regal costs me twice that!

I PERSONALLY HAVE OVER 300 HOURS OF TIME IN THE MOTOR BUILD AND ORIGINAL SWAP

The drivetrain swap was done to the car, and driveable. I had the car registered and insured until recently. The stock 3.8L supercharged V6 motor produces 240 Horsepower, and 280 Ft-Lbs of torque. The only things that were not completed when the drivetrain swap was done is the speedo, tach, and odometer are not wired to the new harness yet, but the car ran perfect, and drove awesome. Gobs of torque. This winter I pulled the car into my shop to drop the cradle and do some performance modifications to the drivetrain.

The mods to the motor are as follow:
Ported TB
Ported LIM
Ported Gen III M90 Eaton Blower with silencer ports block off plate installed
ZZP MPS system installed for easy pulley swaps, with 3.1, 3.25, and 3.4 Pulleys
ARP Head stud kit
ARP Header Bolts
ARP Rocker Bolts
Aluminum LIM gasket upgrade
Comp Cams XP Cam
Comp Cams 105# Valve Springs
Comp Cams Valve Locks
Stainless Steel SI Valves
ZZP Titanium Valve Spring Retainers
Ported and Polished Heads
Stainless Steel PCV covers
Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump
(6) Siemens Deka 60# EV1 Fuel Injectors
ZZP High Volume Water Pump
ZZP Flex Plate
ZZP 10.5MM Plug Wires (red)
ZZP Modified Fuel Rails (black powder coated)
ZZP Polished Aluminum Valve Covers
ZZP Drilled Thermostat
ZZP oil Volume kit
Speed Daddy Headers with upgraded clamps
3" to dual 2.5" Y pipe
Dual Glasspacks
2.5" tail pipes with dual, Authentic Chevrolet C6 Corvette tips
TransGo shift-kit installed in the 4L60E-HD Transmission
Custom Low mount Alternator Bracket

New Radiator
All New Poly Bushings (front set needs to be installed still)
(4) New KYB GR-2 Struts
New Stainless Brake Lines all around

When I was driving the car, before I dropped the cradle to add all the new performance parts it was in great driving condition, started every time, ran perfect with 0KR, shifted excellent transmission was very tight, never overheated, and stopped excellent. When It is put back together it will be an amazing street machine! I had plans to have the car tuned to run on E85(Ethanol), and all the modifications to do that have been done, or run it on pump gas no problem.

To finish this project car the fuel tank must be reinstalled, fuel pump and lines hooked up, install alternator and starter, ignition system installed, fill all fluids (Oil, Trans, Coolant), re install cradle to the body of the car, then hook up the wiring harness to the motor and transmission, Make the final torquing to cradle, and motor mount bolts, then it is ready to start and drive! All the parts needed for the car to be put back together are here. I have several large boxes worth of good spare 3800 motor parts, and OEM Fiero parts. The motor has not been run since the modifications have been made, so all of the parts are still NEW AND NEVER USED. The 3800 does not have a break in procedure for the cam, so it is ready to run! I would highly recommend a professional tune be done on the PCM for maximum gains from the modifications. The setup on this motor is highly capable of well over 300 Horsepower to the WHEELS, and even more TORQUE. I DAILY DRIVE a Buick Regal GS 100+ miles, it also has the same motor as my Fiero, but with less mods done. The mods to it are, High Compression Block, VS cam, Ported Blower with 3.5 pulley, Speed Daddy Headers, full exhaust, and was Dyno Tuned @ 271HP and 331FT-LBS TO THE WHEELS. The Fiero has a more powerful setup in a lighter RWD Platform, and a TON more money invested. I have tons of experience working on, and modifying these 3.8L supercharged motors...

I have $7,418.78 invested in JUST PARTS for the Fiero to date, and am very meticulous about keeping receipts, I do not have every receipt ever, but I do have most of them. I understand that my loss will be someones gain, and am at a point and time in my life where projects and toys are not my priority, so as sad as it makes me it is time for me to move on from this beautiful classic collectors car.

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Pontiac 6000 LE Safari Wagon

Wed, May 27 2020

The Detroit station wagon was fast losing sales to minivans and trucks as the decade of the 1980s progressed, but Pontiac shoppers still had plenty of choices as late as the 1988 model year. A visit to a Pontiac dealership in 1988 would have presented you with three sizes of wagon, from the little Sunbird through the midsize 6000 and up to the mighty Parisienne-based Safari. Today's Junkyard Gem is a luxed-up 6000 LE, complete with "wood" paneling, found in a car graveyard in Fargo, North Dakota. Confusingly, the "Safari" name in 1988 was used by Pontiac to designate both a specific model — the wagon version of the Parisienne/Bonneville— and as the traditional Pontiac designation for a station wagon. That meant that the wagon we're looking at now was a Safari but not the Safari in the 1988 Pontiac universe. The 6000 lived on the GM A-Body platform, as the Pontiac-badged version of the Chevrolet Celebrity. Production ran from the 1982 through 1991 model years, with the A-Body Buick Century surviving all the way through 1996. The LE trim level came between the base 6000 and the gloriously complex 6000 STE (which wasn't available in wagon form, sadly). I visited this yard in Fargo after judging at the Minneapolis 500 24 Hours of Lemons in Brainerd, Minnesota, last fall. Up to that point, I had visited 47 of the Lower 48 United States, with just North Dakota remaining, so I made a point of doing a Fargo detour in order to check that state off my list. I'm pleased that I found such a good example of the 1982-1996 GM A-Body in this yard, because the most famous of all the A-Bodies is the 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera driven to Brainerd by the inept Fargo-based kidnappers in the film "Fargo." This Minnesota-plated 6000 had some rust, but just negligible levels by Upper Midwestern standards on a 31-year-old car. The interior looked very good, with the original owner's manual still inside. The 6000 LE boasted "redesigned contoured seats and London/Empress fabric," which sounds pretty swanky. Something less swanky lives under the hood: an Iron Duke 2.5-liter pushrod four-cylinder engine, known as the Tech 4 by 1988. The Iron Duke was, at heart, one cylinder bank of the not-quite-renowned Pontiac 301-cubic-inch V8; while fairly rugged, the Duke ran rough (typical of large-displacement straight-four engines) and made just 98 horsepower in this application. Pontiac offered a couple of optional V6s in the 6000 in 1988, but no Quad 4.

Pontiac should come back as a performance division for GM

Thu, Apr 6 2017

For decades the Pontiac brand was known as GM's performance brand. From the 1964 Pontiac GTO, to the 1967 Firebird, to the 1984 Fiero, to the 2006 Solstice Turbo, and 2009 G8 GXP, Pontiac had a reputation for building exciting cars, with bold styling and performance to back it up. When the Camaro was killed off in 2002, the Pontiac Firebird died off with it, and the last Pontiacs were built in early 2010. But with names like G3, G4, and G6, Pontiac's performance image had long faded from it's earlier glory days. My idea for Pontiac's revival would be to bring it back as a dedicated performance marque similar to Chevy's Super Sport (SS) line up of years past. First, and most obvious would be to bring back the Pontiac Firebird. Offering the entry-level model with the Camaro's 275HP turbo 4 cylinder engine, then having the Camaro SS's 455HP V8, but also offering a halo model Trans Am that is a revamped Camaro ZL-1 along with it's tire-shredding 650HP, supercharged V8 and race tuned suspension. Secondly, I would bring back the GTO. Which I would base on the current Chevy SS, but I would use the full 455-horsepower LS4 V8 (rather than the 415-hp setup that it has now). Furthermore, I would add the impressive 650-hp supercharged V8 to provide real competition to the Charger Hellcat. Importantly, I would make sure that the new GTO had bold, distinctive styling that really set it apart. I understand that purists would want any Pontiac GTO to be a two-door coupe, but I think that they could forgive that if the new GTO was an outstanding American performance car. Next, I would take the Buick Cascada convertible, add much bolder styling, swap in the Camaro's 275-hp turbo engine, and tune up the suspension to provide more performance than luxury (without being harsh). And finally I would round out the line up by using the new 2018 Traverse , but use the new, bold Pontiac design language to spice up the model's looks, tweak the engines for more power, and again provide a performance suspension that matches the model's new sporty looks. Obviously, having a high performance Pontiac model line up would steal away some sales from Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac models. But I think that it would more than make up for this by also stealing away sales from competing brands. 2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am

Mon, 13 May 2013

No, you didn't read our title wrong. This is a 2013 model year Trans Am, and yes, that is a Pontiac logo affixed to the front of the car. But don't bother dialing up your local General Motors dealership just yet. This is the new Hurst Edition Trans Am created by the Trans Am Depot located in Tallahassee, FL. Having spent a number of years restoring early Trans Am models, the crew at Trans Am Depot finally did what many Pontiac enthusiasts wish GM would have done - create a modern Trans Am using the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
As the former owner of a 1977 model, I've been wanting to check out Trans Am Depot ever since I first saw the company have American Choppers build a trio of motorcycles inspired by its Pontiac remakes. So I jumped at the chance to head to Florida's capital city to visit the shop and drive its latest creation, the new Hurst Edition Trans Am. As a collaboration with Hurst, this car made its debut at the 2012 SEMA Show and then popped up again on our radar with a cheesy yet perfectly fitting video back in March.
