Ok, I've had like a thousand people interested in this car offering me tons of trades and lowballing and never able to come up with the money, so let's try one more time. I have a very nice looking 1987 headturning Fiero with non-factory paint, a sharp orange. It has very low miles (76k) and starts right up, runs well, and shifts well. It is bone stock besides a polyurethane dog bone. The car is 26 years old, and has held up very well for being that old. It would make a good daily driver or project for motor swap, etc. It is by no means perfect, but every cosmetic issue it has could be fixed for under a grand according to the pricing I've done, which would make it nearly mint. It's a gorgeous looking, rare car. I will list every little thing I can possibly think of that is wrong with it. It is a manual transmission (5spd) and I replaced the clutch and slave cylinder 2 years ago which cost me $1400. I am the fourth owner, have clean title in hand. There are no dents or scratches. There is no rust on the body because the body is all plastic or fiberglass. The frame has minimal surface rust compared to most I've seen. I only drive this car once every two weeks or so, and I'm only selling it for room. I don't need the money, and I'm not desperate. I'm really more interested in cash than trades, though I will consider interesting ones. The car has power windows and locks and mirrors which all work. The radio and all speakers work. The pop up headlight motors work, which is semi-rare. Tread is good on the tires. I will list everything wrong with it now.
Paint-90% of the car is shiny and beautiful. The one portion around the sunroof and windshield pillars is starting to crack. And there is one small section on a piece of body molding on the driver's door that has chipped away as well. You don't see any of this unless you're close. Window outer weather stripping-the window seals on the outside work fine but are cracked and ugly in my opinion. Sunroof-(btw I have an extra sunroof) the seal around the sunroof needs to be replaced which is cheap. It doesn't leak but it's warped and will leak someday if not fixed. Rear deck-the springs are worn out and the deck has to be propped. The seal that goes around the inner trunk is starting to rip and eventually will need replacing. Interior-The interior is almost perfect except the seats. The drivers seat is torn up badly and there's a rip in the passenger seat. The rest of the interior is clean and beautiful. The seats need to be reupholstered or replaced. My leather guy said $300 for vinyl or $500 for leather. Craigslist and ebay have seats for anywhere from $50-150 usually. Speedometer-The speedometer goes crazy. The needle goes back and forth and doesn't work properly. I bought the car this way and never bothered fixing it. The tach and all other gauges work properly. My mechanic did a diagnostic and said it's just a bad gauge. A/C-worked when I bought it but blows warm now. Needs a recharge. But windows down works great and the sunroof lifts right out and can be stored under front hood. Windows-The windows work fine but go down very slowly. It's been this way since I bought it 4 or 5 years ago. Misc-The steering wheel shaft wiggles a bit and has some play. My mechanic said it's not worth it to fix and doesn't affect how it drives. He stated that it's a simple problem to fix, but complicated to take the whole thing apart. Driver's door-for some reason the key won't open the driver's door, only the passenger door. So I've always had to open that one and hit the unlock button from that side. I've never gotten it checked out, because I didn't care about it much. I think that's about it. The battery has been replaced recently. Oil has been changed every 2500-3,000 miles. Goes down the road great. It's like a little go cart for the road. I love this car, but I have 2 kids now and no space for both this and my motorcycle. I purchased it for $3,800 4 years ago with 62k on it and only has 76k on it total now. Then I had to stick $1,400 into it, so whoever can come up with the dang money is getting a deal. My name is Jon. This or That: 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 vs. 1984 Pontiac Fiero
Tue, Feb 10 2015Welcome to another round of This or That, where two Autoblog editors pick a topic, pick a side and pull no punches. Last round pitted yours truly against Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, and my chosen VW Vanagon Syncro narrowly defeated Brandon's 1987 Land Rover. In fact, it was, by far, the closest round we've seen, with 1,907 voters seeing things my way (for 50.8 percent of the vote) versus 1,848 votes for Brandon's Rover (49.2 percent). Sweet, sweet victory! For this latest round of This or That, I've roped Editor Greg Migliore into what I think is a rather fun debate. We've each chosen our favorite terrible cars, setting a price limit of $10,000 to make sure neither of us went too crazy with our automotive atrocities. I think we've both chosen terribly... and I mean that in the best way possible. 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Jeremy Korzeniewski: Why It's Terrible: Taken in isolation, the Chrysler Crossfire isn't necessarily a terrible car. In fact, it drives pretty darn well, and there's a lot of solid engineering under its slinky shape. Problem is, that engineering was already rather long in the tooth well before Chrysler ever got its hands on it, having come from Mercedes-Benz, which used the basic chassis and drivetrain in a previous version of its SLK coupe and roadster. Granted, the SLK was an okay car, too, but even when new, it hardly set the world on fire with sporty driving dynamics. Chrysler took these decent-but-no-more bits and pieces from the Mercedes parts bin – remember, this car was conceived in the disastrous Merger Of Equals days – and covered them with a rather attractive hard-candy shell. Unfortunately, the super sporty shape wrote checks in the minds of buyers that its well-worn mechanicals were simply unable to cash, though an injection of power courtesy of a supercharged V6 engine in the SRT6 model, as seen here, certainly helped ease some of those woes. In the end, Chrysler was left with a so-called halo car that looked the part but never quite performed the part. It was almost universally panned by critics as an overpriced parts-bin special, which, I must add, was damningly accurate. As a result, sales were very slow, and within the first few months, dealers were clearancing the car at cut-rate prices, just to keep them from taking up too much of the showroom floor. Why It's Not That Terrible, After All: I can speak from personal experience when discussing the Chrysler Crossfire. You see, I owned one. Well, sort of...
Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series
Mon, 10 Mar 2014NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.
Junkyard Gem: 2009 Pontiac G3
Sun, Mar 28 2021Things weren't looking so rosy for Pontiac Division in late 2008, as The General had troubles of its own that culminated in Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June of 2009. Meanwhile, the Solstice and G8 had failed to revive Pontiac's youthful "excitement" image. Naturally, this seemed like the ideal time to put Pontiac badges and a new grille on the Chevrolet Aveo (itself a rebadged Daewoo Kalos) and call it the G3 (in the United States) or the G3 Wave (in Canada). Sales were not brisk, to put it mildly, and the 2009-only G3 has become one of the rarest modern Pontiacs in the junkyard world. The announcement of Pontiac's demise came in the spring of 2009, with the very last Pontiac-badged vehicle built being either a G3 or a Vibe (since those cars were really Daewoos and Toyotas, respectively, the true final Pontiac was the 2010 G6). The Aveo itself disappeared after the 2011 model year, replaced by an updated Kalos design known here as the Chevrolet Sonic. As a result of the GM bankruptcy, termination of the Pontiac brand, a nasty worldwide recession, and the preference of American vehicle shoppers for trucks or at least truck-shaped cars, few knew the G3 existed and fewer still thought to buy one. This is only the second G3 I've managed to find in a car graveyard, and I've been searching diligently. So, it's a Junkyard Gem in the historical sense, not in the sense of being the kind of car you'd want to take to your 20th high school reunion. That said, it has power windows, air conditioning, and a CD player— pretty nice stuff for a dirt-cheap econobox from a decade back. And look! An AUX jack for your iPod or early-model smartphone. I drove dozens of cheap rental cars for my job with the 24 Hours of Lemons Traveling Circus during the late 2000s, and very few had this feature; until about 2013 or so, you had to travel with your own CDs or one of those horrible wireless FM modulators if you wanted to listen to anything other than the radio in a non-high-roller rental car. Under the hood, a 106-horse Daewoo Ecotec displacing 1.6 liters. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. If there were any television commercials for the G3, I guarantee that they weren't as fun as this one— set in the California high desert, of course— for the SKDM Kalos.
