Hello-

Thank you for viewing this listing.  Up for Auction is a 1984 Pontiac Fiero Base Model with 25000 original miles.  The car was bought new in 1985 in East Aurora, NY.  It was used sparingly by its original owner who would occasionally drive it to work (about 30 miles each way) and spent the rest of its time under a car cover in the garage.  Over the 27 years he owned it he put about 17000 miles on it.  In 2012 the original owner gave the car to his adult son who drove it back and forth to work (about 50 miles each way) for one summer.  This is an honest assessment of the cars condition:

Exterior-
This car is in excellent condition.  There is some small cracking in the original paint around the trunk and rear quarter areas.  There are some minor scratches here and there and it appears there was some very minor paint repair done to the right rear quarter and some point in its life.  There is a minor scratch in the paint on the passenger mirror and a star shaped stone chip in the left lower corner of the windshield.  The removable sunroof is in great shape and the original wind deflector is under the hood in its holder.

Interior -
The interior is in excellent condition.  Seats are in great shape no rips, tears or wear.  Carpets and door panels and dash are all in great shape.  The headliner is coming loose in a couple spots but is still in decent shape.

Engine and Transmission and Drive Train-
The Car Runs drives and shifts great.  The tires are the original Firestone Tires and are in poor condition but it still runs smoothly down the road.  Brakes are in good condition including the parking brake.

There was only 7099 base model Fiero's made in 1984.   There were far more Sports and SE's made. Unfortunately these stripped down cars were probably the first of their kind to hit the crushers. This car is a piece of American car history and deserves to preserved in that way.  I hope there is a fanatic out there that would like to add a base model to their collection.  I have all the original documentation with this car.  Original dealer invoice, service records, owners manuals, key tag, recall notices, and warranty cards.

I set a low reserve on this car.  If it meets the reserve and sells at auction I will need a $500 non-refundable deposit from the buyer within 24 hours of the close of the auction.  The car is available for inspection Monday-Friday from 9-5.  Please call Mark at 716-353-0862 to set up time to view it. There is no warranty and the car is being sold AS-IS. Please ask all questions prior to bidding.

Thanks

Motorweek looks back at the Pontiac Aztek

Thu, Jul 9 2015

The Pontiac Aztek has earned a position as this generation's ultimate, automotive punchline. Even other execrable models like the Yugo or Mustang II probably get more respect these days just out of their sheer quirkiness, but the Aztek remains a joke. Fortify your mind for what's coming, though, because the much-maligned Pontiac might not be quite so atrocious, at least according to MotorWeek's latest Retro Review video. MotorWeek calls the Aztek, "GM's first true crossover vehicle," and it's amazing to think of the hated model as a progenitor of one of the most popular segments today. While admitting that the looks are polarizing, John Davis and company actually come away pleased with the Aztek's utility. They praise that there's a ton of room in the back, and the interior is packed with useful features like a removable cooler in the center console and radio controls in a cargo area. The show is even impressed with how the Pontiac drives and throws around accolades like "nimble" and "pleasant." After seeing the Aztek leading the pack on lists of the worst vehicles of all time for years, listening to it get such effusive praise is actually quite jarring. Could we all be so wrong? No, there's absolutely no debate that this is still a hideous automobile. However, MotorWeek asserts a complete reversal of the generally perceived wisdom about the early CUV. While unexpected, thinking about such an abhorred model in a different way is a cool experience. Check out the video for a different take on the Aztek.

Pontiac Aztek rises from the ashes of infamy in Firebird Trans Am guise

Thu, Apr 9 2020

What if the Pontiac Aztek, one of the most widely ridiculed vehicles ever built, was reimagined with a little flair from one of the former brand’s more legendary cars? Well, it turns out that someone not only came up with that idea, but followed up on it. And so, we present to you the Pontiac Aztek Firebird Trans Am, uh, trim package? ItÂ’s not real, of course, but it comes from Abimelec Arellano, an Hermosillo, Mexico-based car designer with too much time on his hands who goes by the name Abimelec Design. Arellano redesigned the midsize SUVÂ’s wimpy front fascia to surprising success by simply adding widened fender flares and perhaps modernizing the headlights. He also went all-in embracing the AztekÂ’s abrupt, flattened rear end by removing the rear bumper lip, adding a slightly more aggressive rear spoiler to boot. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Elsewhere, the dominating and cheap-looking gray plastic under-cladding is gone in favor of body-color panels. Arellano also added some probably larger Pontiac Snowflake wheels with gold accents that really make them pop and play well against the signature Firebird decal dominating the hood. Commenters generally fall into one of two buckets. As one put it, “I never thought the Aztek could look this good.” Others implored Arellano to do a version with a T-top. Or as one Autoblog editor put it, “So it turns out the reason the Aztek was a laughingstock failure is that it didnÂ’t come in a Smokey and the Bandit Edition. Somewhere, a dude who got shouted down in a product-planning meeting years ago is vindicated.” Sold between 2001 and 2005, the Aztek arguably reached the pinnacle of its notoriety as the metaphor for the drab, underachieving life of Walter White in AMCÂ’s meth drama, “Breaking Bad.” It came equipped with a 3.4-liter V6 that made 185 horsepower and sent it through a four-speed automatic to the front wheels, with an all-wheel drive version also available. The Aztek may have the last laugh, especially if it gets a screaming chicken. “The fact it was a controversial design and didnÂ’t sell well will make it an object of curiosity from a historical standpoint many years from now,” McKeel Hagerty, president and CEO of classic-car insurer Hagerty Insurance, told Autoblog back in 2016.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
