The Gentlemans Gto on 2040-cars
Wallingford, Connecticut, United States
Here we have the ultimate project, a 1970 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with the matching numbers drivetrain and thousands of dollars in NOS parts(see list below and pictures) as well used parts(see pictures). This car was sold new in Boulder Colorado, but appears to have spent it's life in the Salt Lake City Utah until my purchase in 2004. Car is loaded with options including A.C.,power windows, 6-way power seat, power door locks, trunk release, tilt wheel, cruise control, rally guages, cornering lights and rally wheels and dual exhaust. Also included is a complete factory am/fm multiplex stereo with seperate tranny hump mounted 8-track player. This car is currently registered and insured and the motor and tranny are excellent with no leaks, one brake line needs to be replaced. I purchased this car 10 years ago with the intent of fully restoring it and have spent this time scouring the internet for NOS parts as well as used parts and everything is included with the purchase of the car. Since owning the car I installed a new tinted widshield, had the brake booster restored and properly plated with new master cylinder, alternator as well as a correct date coded carberator, new distributor and reproduction date coded ignition wires. The top was replaced in 2002 and at that time the top motor and both top pistons were replaced with new, the top is still in pretty decent shape with the proper glass rear window. I also have the correct NOS vinyl upholstery with enough yardage to do both the front and rear seats purchased from Original Auto Interiors. What the car really needs is bodywork and paint. I removed most of the interior and exterior moldings so you can see what really needs to be done. The car has the usual rust in the rear quarters and some minor floor rust, but the frame is excellent as well as the doors and rockers and even the the trunk floor, included with the auction are lower quarter panel repair panels for both sides. Below is a list of NOS parts that come with the car: - All 4 chrome headlight bezels -2 sets of grille inserts, argent as well as charcoal colored - both horn grilles - parking light/cornering light lenses and one housing - factory door edge guards - all 4 wheel well opening moldings - front license plate bracket - Bonneville insignias for the hood, trunklid, fender - 455 emblem for the fender - passenger side outside door handle - all 4 chrome moldings located behind the front and rear bumper corners - rear edge of hood molding - rear seat courtesy light lenses - fuel/oil pressure guage - Printed circuit board for rally guages - Interior ashtrays including dash, passenger door and rear seat on each side - dash courtesy/maplight - vehicle emissions control sticker for under hood - dash mounted A.C. outlets - dash mounted A.C./heat/defrost control assembly - power door lock cylinder - left and right exhaust pipe ends with proper turndown - cruise control package(probaly A-body) but includes proper vacuum diaphram, turn signal stalk and fenderwell mounted transducer - clock bezel - instrument cluster lens - brake pedal pad - outside drvers door remote mirror, not NOS, but darn close! - rear quarter panel side light bezels with one lens - self adhesive body side moldings, new, but aftermarket, not NOS, but look correct - brake light switch plus many other small mechanical bits like sending units, voltage regulater etc. In addition I have the the full PHS documents for the car including the build sheet and reproduction window sticker, original protect-o-plate, shop manual, owners manual and dealers brochure plus MORE. I also have an extensive array of used parts as well, to numerous to break down, please see pictures. Please ask questions or feel free to call me at 203-219-2962 (Eric) or to request additional pictures On May-08-14 at 10:11:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I just wanted to add that auction includes a rechromed rear bumper, also NOS outer beltline moldings for the quarter windows.

This junkyard '91 Grand Am is as hooptie as it gets
Wed, Jun 29 2016I spend a lot of time in junkyards. A lot of time. With all this experience, I have learned to recognize a perfect hooptie when I see one, a car whose final owner got every last bit of use out of it when its value was hovering right about at scrap value. This 1991 Pontiac Grand Am that I spotted in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard a few days ago, from the final model year for the third-generation Grand Am, checks all the hooptie boxes just right. First of all, it's a low-option coupe with the wretched and unloved GM Iron Duke engine, a rattly, gnashy, thrashy 2.5-liter four-cylinder kludged together using off-the-shelf parts from the Pontiac 301-cubic-inch V8 during the darkest years of the Malaise Era and used in cars whose buyers just didn't care. Most of the paint has been burned off by 25 years of harsh California sun, but the car spent sufficient time in a damp, shady spot for lichens to build up here and there. There are skeletons-with-sombreros stencils sprayed here and there, plus a big moonshine-guzzling skeleton mural painted on the hood. Goodbye, property values! Still, someone felt some affection for this car, giving it the name "Good Ol' Snakey" and painting that name on the decklid. We can assume that the Iron Duke was a bit loose by this time, probably leaving a serpentine trail of blue smoke behind the car at all times. So, the combination of cheapness, ugliness, menace, and who-gives-a-damn functionality make this Grand Am an excellent example of a pure hooptie. Within a couple of months, it will be crushed, shredded, shipped out of the Port of Oakland, and reborn in China as refrigerators and Geely Emgrands. Somewhere in Northern California, though, a few of Ol' Smokey's friends will remember this car fondly.
GM's got 107 problems and NHTSA's No. 1
Thu, Mar 6 2014General Motors' problems with its recall of roughly 1.6-million vehicles continue to mount. Now that it has emerged that GM knew about the problem since at least 2004 but waited to recall vehicles until February 2014, regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have begun a much deeper investigation. NHTSA has sent a 27-page survey to GM that includes 107 questions about the timeline of what led up to the recall, and it has until April 3 to reply. This isn't a simple, multiple-choice test. Automotive News believes that hundreds of pages could be required to answer some of the queries. NHTSA says that it is still investigating GM's response to the recall. "We are a data-driven organization, and we will take whatever action is appropriate based on where our findings lead us," said NHTSA in a statement on its website. If found liable, the automaker could face a fine as high as $35 million and even possible criminal charges, according to Bloomberg. NHTSA's questions include a detailed explanation of GM's examination process; how it will improve the process; why a planned redesign of the cars' key in 2005 wasn't implemented; and specific data on each complaint it received. According to Bloomberg, NHTSA also has records that show the company had a meeting with regulators to discuss the airbag failure in a Chevrolet Cobalt in 2007. New GM CEO Mary Barra has also hired an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation about what happened. It will include questioning company employees who were involved with the process from the start. The recall stems from faulty ignition switches that shut off the car while driving, and if it occurs the airbags deactivate. Thirteen deaths and 23 crashes have been caused by the problem, according to Bloomberg. If you would like to peruse NHTSA's entire questionnaire for GM, it can be viewed here. There's a 'Knight Rider' movie in development
Mon, Aug 17 2020James Wan, who has directed films from the first "Saw" to "Aquaman," with "Furious 7" in between, and produced even more projects, is producing a new Knight Rider movie according to a report in Deadline. Just in case there's a reader who doesn't know, Knight Rider was one of the seminal trio of iconic-car shows from the 1980s, along with "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "Miami Vice." The series lasted 90 episodes that ran from 1982 to 1986, following the crime-fighting exploits of Michael Knight, a man who crusaded for justice after being shot in the face. Billionaire Walton Knight hired Michael to work with the Knight Foundation, where Michael helps develop the Knight Industries Two Thousand, a Pontiac Trans-Am with AI that can talk, drive more than 200 miles per hour, and could teach MI6's Q Branch about gadgetry. Collider described David Hasselhof's Michael Knight as "crimefighter by trade and wearing-a-leather-jacket-with-no-shirt-underneath innovator by hobby." The show made such an impression that there was a series spinoff called "Code of Justice," two TV movies in 1991 and 1994, a convention called KnightCon, and a series reboot on NBC that lasted for one season from 2008 to 2009, as well as stores full of action figures and models and literature, YouTube fan-made trailers and movies, and this wacky German-dubbed short "Knight Rider" film starring Hasselhoff. We don't know anything about the new movie's plot yet, other than that it's set in the present. T.J. Fixman, better known for now as a video game writer who worked on franchises like "Ratchet and Clank" and "Resistance: Fall of Man," has been attached to write, with a mandate to keep "the anti-establishment tone of the original." With matters still early in development there's no telling when the movie will hit theaters, and Wan's probably got his hands busy with the new MacGuyver reboot for CBS, anyway. Now that there's already been a Knight Industries 2000 and 3000, that gives us plenty of time to imagine — in a world where 200-mph hypercars powered by everything sprout like weeds and even Cannonballers are using military-like equipment — what would a Knight Industries Four Thousand possess? And would it be called KIFT? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
