Supercharged Sports Luxury Sedan - Medium Red Metallic, original MSRP over $33K.

The AutoCheck Vehicle History Report listed here shows that the car was in an accident in 2004 - I am the second owner and bought the car from Palm Auto Mall in 2005, the AutoCheck I received then DID NOT mention the accident.  I just found out about it earlier this year in a CARFAX Vehicle History Report that states "Accident reported involving right front impact, it hit a motor vehicle, Vehicle functional".  There were no signs of any damage when I bought the car so I'm assuming it was a very minor fender bender that hasn't affected the car at all.  I have the original AutoCheck as well as the 2013 CARFAX.

I've loved this car and wouldn't be selling it but the AC needs to be fixed and I just had a baby so I finally bit the bullet and bought a new car.

120K miles, probably has another 100K miles left in it with proper care. Runs beautifully! Gets great gas mileage for size/power - I averaged 30 MPG on a road trip to my brother's for Thanksgiving at about 70-80 MPH and typically get around 22/23 MPG for a general mix of stop and go/local highway travel. The EPA estimates are 17 city, 28 highway.

Yokohama AVID ENVigor tires put on in 2011, less than 24K miles ago, still in great shape and have a treadlife warranty of 5 years/60K miles. Also have lifetime road hazard warranty at local Watkins Tire & Auto on 41 at Port Charlotte/North Port border.

This is a comfortable, safe, luxurious car with features that were impressive for its time and still compare to most cars today!
Features:
3.8 Liter Supercharged V6
240 Horsepower
4 Speed Automatic
Daytime Running Lights
Fog Lights
Traction Control
Stabilitrak Control System
4-wheel Anti-lock Disc Brakes
Digital Heads Up Display (I think every car should have this!)
Electrochromic Rear-view Mirror w/available OnStar
Heated Power Exterior Mirrors
12-way Power Seats
Memory Driver Seat
Steering Wheel Mounted Controls
Oil Life Indicator
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Power Locks, Windows, etc.
Remote Keyless Entry
Tilt-steering Column
8-speaker Audio System by Bose
CD player
Cruise Control
Leather
Sunroof
Built-in Air Compressor (comes in handy!)
Locking Gas Tank Door

Just changed the supercharger oil.
Had an oil change and tire rotation in the fall - with the oil life indicator I've usually only needed about 2 oil changes a year.
Calls for premium gas but I don't notice any difference in performance or gas mileage with mid-grade or regular.

I will include:
Air Compressor Kit with hose and attachments for filling tires, sports balls, floats, etc.
Supercharger Oil - 48 oz, enough for about 6 oil changes and they only need to be done about once a year.
Tools necessary for supercharger oil check/change (it's very easy).
Adapter for iPod
Premium Touch-up Repair Kit
Other misc.

As mentioned above, the AC isn't currently working (blows hot) - it might just need to be recharged with sealant, in the past that's worked and I also had an o-ring replaced and it blew ice cold for a year after that.
Other non-optimal issues:
Sunroof drains have tendency to clog/not drain properly and can leak into car if not kept up on.
Driver's seat leather is pretty torn up as shown in picture (only seat with damage), could be re-upholstered fairly inexpensively or use a seat cover or get a new seat from junkyard/online - I've just been using a cushion to cover it.
Light in clock/RSS doesn't always work properly - maybe needs a new fuse?
Slow oil leak, might need the valve gasket replaced eventually.
Area of paint near gas tank that a bird "went" on and even though I cleaned it off fairly quickly it has continued to degrade, visible in picture of driver's side of car.

I'm very honest and will fully disclose anything you want to know about the car, it's a great car but obviously not in perfect condition anymore at this age. I have the manual, all car records/receipts, and kept a log of all maintenance and other things done.

Junkyard Gem: 2006 Pontiac Solstice

Wed, Sep 4 2019

The debut of the Pontiac Solstice, back in 2005 for the 2006 model year, stirred up much excitement in the automotive world. Sales were brisk at first, and then they weren't so great… and then Pontiac itself went under The General's cost-cutting axe. One thing I have learned during my junkyard travels is that even sought-after sports cars eventually reach a point at which they start showing up in the big self-service junkyards. For example, the BMW Z3 began appearing in such yards about five years ago, along with the Audi TT. While the Honda S2000 still appears to be exempt from this process, today's Junkyard Gem shows that the time has now come for the Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky. The first Z3s and TTs I saw in the U-Wrench-type yards were crash victims, not worth fixing, and that's the case with this Solstice. In a few more years, I'll start seeing the occasional Solstice/Sky discarded due to general worn-outness. Someone grabbed all the undented front body parts and the transmission (these items, presumably, being valuable), but no junkyard shoppers have felt like pulling the non-turbo 2.0-liter Ecotec. The interior seems dirty, probably from exposure to the elements while sitting outdoors in this Colorado Springs wrecking yard, but not in bad shape otherwise. Perhaps the car's owner celebrated a return from Iraq with the purchase of a sporty new Pontiac, 13 years ago. These cars have an enthusiastic following, so I wasn't expecting to see a junked one so soon after production ceased. I felt the same way about the Chrysler Crossfire, however, and I found two of those last year. What's next, a 2002-2005 Thunderbird? This content is hosted by a third party. GM issues four new recalls, 2.4 million cars affected

Tue, 20 May 2014

General Motors has announced another set of recalls, covering some 2.42 million cars in the United States. For those keeping track, The General has now recalled over 15 million cars worldwide this year due to various issues.
Here's the breakdown for this most recent set of recalls:
1,339,355 - Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia models from the 2009 to 2014 model years; Saturn Outlook models from the 2009 to 2010 model years

Junkyard Gem: 2008 Pontiac G5 Coupe

Sun, Apr 9 2023

In the grim early days of the Great Recession, the situation at GM's Pontiac Division didn't feel so great but there was some cause for optimism. The Solstice still had a certain glow, the Holden Commodore-based G8 had just arrived, and vehicle shoppers could stride into their local Pontiac showrooms and choose from eight different models bearing the iconic arrowhead badge. Yes, there were still new Torrents and Grand Prix and Vibes for sale in 2008, and of course the Cavalier-twin Sunfire had been replaced by the Cobalt-twin G5 by that time. Here's one of those G5s, found in a Colorado Springs car graveyard. It wasn't long after this car was built that everything went to hell for Pontiac. In April of 2009, GM announced that the Pontiac Division would be "phased out" over the next few years. Just to drive home the point, GM itself filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy five weeks later. GM had already offed Oldsmobile—a marque dating back to 1897, making it nearly 30 years Pontiac's senior—five years earlier, so everybody knew there would be no reprieve in this case. Just to confuse everybody, Pontiac dealers offered a G3-badged Chevy Aveo (aka Daewoo Kalos) to sell alongside the G5 for 2009, but by 2010 there were just two new Pontiac models still standing in the United States: the G6 and the Vibe. Just over 70,000 G5s were sold in the United States during the 2007-2009 model years, making these cars fairly rare. The Cobalt/G5 ignition-switch fiasco of the mid-2010s really hammered their resale value at the time. Sometimes the definition of "Gem" refers to historical value, not the happier kind. Speaking of ignition switches, the key is still in this one. That generally means that a junkyard vehicle is a dealership trade-in or insurance total that couldn't sell at auction. This one is a base model, which listed at $15,675 (about $22,040 in 2023 dollars). The snazzier G5 GT started at $19,850 ($27,911 now) that year. The engine in this car is a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-banger rated at 148 horsepower and 152 pound-feet (the GT got a 2.4 with 171 hp/167 lb-ft). A five-speed manual was standard equipment, but the buyer of this car paid extra for the automatic. GM stuck these little "Mark of Excellence" badges on the fenders of its vehicles starting in 2005, then ditched the idea in 2009. I have vivid memories of this logo from the seatbelt buttons in my parents' 1973 Sportvan Beauville.
