I am a huge fan of 64 Pontiacs.  I am selling this car because I bought a 64 Safari...otherwise, I would not sell it.  The car needs a few things, but has a lot of good things going for it. This is not "like an impala" nor is it the GTO's big brother.  This was simply Pontiacs best full size trim line car, as far as I know, and likely one of the best looking cars of the 60's.  The interiors are spectacular, the lines are great by most car folks' opinion and the ride of the 64 Pontiac is very hard to beat.

I bought it last year in Oregon, prior to that, I was told the car spent most of its life in Las Vegas.  I believe the car was built in California.

The car needs the following:  a brake/wheel cylinder is bad...brakes stick, I would drive to a neighboring state or further without any hesitation, but that is a bit risky..because of the brakes. The headliner and carpet are bad, the rear passenger window was stuck down when I bought it and the car got wet inside messing up the carpet and headliner as well. The trunk has rust, but looks so nice like it is, and is solid. I would leave it alone.... its dry and looks good/original.  I did put a water pump on it, and that is all I have done to the car.  I have driven it no more than10 miles, but it runs so smooth and shifts so good.  No funny noises or hesitations, no smoke, no knocks, no ticks...none.  It steers extremely well, and is not a rattle trap, its very quiet.  I know these cars well, and it is a good one.  Not a high miles wore out junker.  The wipers are quiet on the windshield as well.... i ran them when I washed it today.   The front bumper is as nice as I have ever seen and its around 1500 bucks just to get one to look like this (re-chromed) The stainless and other chrome (except a spot on the rear bumper) is in SUPER SHAPE... I mean SUPER.  The body DOES NOT HAVE A DENT... LET ME BE VERY CLEAR... IT DOES NOT HAVE A DENT.  The car is almost 50 years old, and again... DOES NOT HAVE A DENT.  The re-paint paint job is faded but looks fine because again.. the car is super straight and the chrome and stainless shine so well. It does have one panel repainted, but i took a photo of the inside of the trunk and you can see it was never bashed in or anything major.  The dash is cracked, the front seat is not perfect.  The door panels are as nice as I have ever seen...WOW... so nice.  the drivers window was slowly working, not now.. the others are slow or need help up... need to be lubricated on the tracks for sure.  The engine and transmission are strong.  The car looks really nice.  I took photos of the car after I washed it, and once it was dry as well.  The right rear tire was pretty low, but its pumped up now and holds air just fine.. car has been sitting in my garage for close to a year and I drove it out without any issues at all.  Starts up nice.  NO SMOKE, NO TICKS, NO CARB ISSUES, no slowly turning over, no smells, etc.  No cracked glass or hazing either, nice factory green tinted glass.  Tires are good, not rotten or bald, not perfect or new either...  I did not look at the spare, but its likely an old bias ply, and the jack is in the trunk factory mounted.  I am pretty sure its 103k miles as the door panels, glass, chrome, and rubber on the pedals seem to tell that kind of story/miles... not double that.

I do not expect the car to go for much, but be assured, you would spend a lot of time looking for one with a body this nice, the trim and chrome and running condition.  It needs a couple things as I mentioned, but this is a good car.  Not a junk yard cover up job.
I just finally put it in my name, so the title is about 1 week away.  Likely by the time the auction is ending, I will have it.

Dont waste my time or yours.  If you bid, bid to win.  Put the deposit down, and pay for it as required. This is not a high dollar/need a loan kind of car...lets treat it like that...

You cant restore it at my house, eat dinner and take a shower here, and ask me to do all kinds of other things.. this is a low dollar car purchase.  I like getting a deal, and this will be a deal to whoever wins...  low reserve.  I often lower the buy it now and reserve to get instant gratification.. so watch closely.   Thanks for reading this far. If you live in Oregon or Washington, perhaps another state somewhat near here, I may be able to deliver it cheaper than a car hauler etc.  JUST ASK ME or MAKE AN OFFER.....   David

Junkyard Gem: 1984 Pontiac Fiero with supercharged 3800 V6 swap

Tue, Dec 31 2019

Like the Corvair, the Vega, and the Citation, the Pontiac Fiero was a very innovative machine that ended up causing General Motors more headaches than happiness, and Fiero aficionados and naysayers continue to beat each other with tire irons (figuratively speaking, I hope) to this day. The General has often proved willing to take the occasional big gamble and huge GM successes in engineering prowess (including the first overhead-valve V8 engine for the masses and the first real-world-usable true automatic transmission) and marketing brilliance (e.g., the Pontiac GTO and related John DeLorean home runs) meant that the idea of a mid-engined sporty economy car (or economical sports car) got a shot from the suits on the 14th floor. Sadly, the Fiero ended up being the marketplace victim of too many issues to get into here, and The General pulled the plug immediately after the 1988-model-year suspension redesign that made the Fiero the sports car it should have been all along. But what if the plastic Pontiac had never suffered from the misery of the gnashy, pokey Iron Duke engine and had been built from the start with a screaming supercharged V6 making way better than 200 horsepower? The final owner of today's Junkyard Gem sought to make that very Fiero, by dropping in one of the many supercharged 3.8-liter V6s installed in 1990s and 2000s GM factory hot rods. The first Fieros came out in 1983 for model year 1984, and the only engine available that year was the Iron Duke 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which generated its 92 horsepower with the full-throated song of a Soviet tractor stuck in the freezing mud of a Polish sugar-beet field. The 2M4 badging stood for "two seats, mid-engine, four cylinders," just as the numbers in the Oldsmobile 4-4-2 once represented "four carburetor barrels, four-speed manual transmission, dual exhaust." This car is a top-trim-level SE model, which listed for $9,599 (about $24,200 today). The no-frills Fiero cost just $7,999 that year, making these cars far cheaper than the only other reasonably affordable new mid-engined car Americans could buy at that time: the $13,990 Bertone (aka Fiat) X1/9. The Toyota MR2 appeared in North America as a 1985 model with a base price of $10,999 and promptly siphoned off the car-buying cash from a bunch of potential Fiero shoppers.

GM's got 107 problems and NHTSA's No. 1

Thu, Mar 6 2014

General Motors' problems with its recall of roughly 1.6-million vehicles continue to mount. Now that it has emerged that GM knew about the problem since at least 2004 but waited to recall vehicles until February 2014, regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have begun a much deeper investigation. NHTSA has sent a 27-page survey to GM that includes 107 questions about the timeline of what led up to the recall, and it has until April 3 to reply. This isn't a simple, multiple-choice test. Automotive News believes that hundreds of pages could be required to answer some of the queries. NHTSA says that it is still investigating GM's response to the recall. "We are a data-driven organization, and we will take whatever action is appropriate based on where our findings lead us," said NHTSA in a statement on its website. If found liable, the automaker could face a fine as high as $35 million and even possible criminal charges, according to Bloomberg. NHTSA's questions include a detailed explanation of GM's examination process; how it will improve the process; why a planned redesign of the cars' key in 2005 wasn't implemented; and specific data on each complaint it received. According to Bloomberg, NHTSA also has records that show the company had a meeting with regulators to discuss the airbag failure in a Chevrolet Cobalt in 2007. New GM CEO Mary Barra has also hired an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation about what happened. It will include questioning company employees who were involved with the process from the start. The recall stems from faulty ignition switches that shut off the car while driving, and if it occurs the airbags deactivate. Thirteen deaths and 23 crashes have been caused by the problem, according to Bloomberg. If you would like to peruse NHTSA's entire questionnaire for GM, it can be viewed here. Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken

Fri, Feb 8 2019

Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.
