Selling as is, where is, parts car or very ambitious restoration project: 1963 Bonneville Conv. factory equipped, I believe, with its original 389 2 barrel Carb. engine and 4 speed Hydramatic transmission, PS, PB, and black leather interior. I bought this car 19 years ago running and driving but with lots of frame and body rust showing  I already had a '63 Grand Prix and a '63 Catalina convertible, and I didn't want this once great car to be scrapped. I stored car in reasonably dry storage and just got it out of storage a month ago. I have subsequently taken a very careful look at its condition. I removed the remaining top material to look at top bows and other parts - these all look OK. I have oiled all the top joints and believe the top assembly is serviceable. I took out the seats (the OEM bolts unfastened on the front seat) and removed all the old carpeting and factory insulation. The drive-shaft tunnel looks OK. There are small holes in front floor pans; the rear floor pans have holes in them and the area under the rear seat is quite rusty, These convertibles had reinforced rocker areas. There is substantial rust in these areas. The rear frame behind axle is completely rusted away as is the entire trunk floor. The only thing holding the rear of the car together are the rear quarter panels and the trunk lid and its connections. The front of portion of the car is good condition: core support, inner panels, grilles, front suspension - seems to have the 4 original wheels. The engine is complete but I have not tried to turn it over. Almost nothing is missing from this car - it is very complete as built. If you want additional additional information, I will be happy to provide it. Interested parties are welcome to inspect the car first hand. It is located near Middletown, Md., about 5 miles off I -70, near Frederick..

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
