All in all this is a car that presents itself well as a loved and taken care of vehicle. It has been garaged when not in use by the original and subsequent owners. It’s been continuously registered and regularly driven since leaving the factory floor. It did NOT sit in a field or under a tree rotting or getting sun baked. It has NOT sat in a barn, unused and mice bitten, with every mechanical, rotational, and electrical service needing refurbishment. It is Not a base 2 door satellite with a rallye dash cobbled in, a “blacked out” grille, a transplanted engine, small block suspension and roadrunner stripes.
From what I can tell, and see based on being a Mopar enthusiast for 20+ years, and people with auto body experience tell me, the car has all its original body panels and sheetmetal, which are very solid, straight and unrusted. I went over the car with a set of magnets before I bought it several years ago. There are No weaknesses in any of the typical old car/Mopar trouble spots – meaning wheelhouses, rockers, rear header, rear windshield surround and corners, subframes, qtr panels, suspension mounting points, trunk, floors, hood hinge areas, radiator support area. The car was factory undercoated, which is all still there, and resided in Western Oregon and  Western Washington, both areas where winter salted roads isn’t an issue. This should be a major consideration in potentially purchasing this car over others - how many are still out there that have never had, or would not need, rust repair ?  20% ?  Less ?

**The car was originally Tawny Gold which was repainted { trunk and door sills also , but not engine compartment } in a, I think, custom color.  I’m told it was repainted by the original lady owner many years ago. It looks like a cross between Mopars Panther Pink and In-Violet Purple. It was a decent paint job when done, still having good shine, and no overspray. Now it is a 20/20 view car, at 20 miles an hour and 20 feet away it looks great, but up close you see some scratches and rock chips, one small small ding, and one long scratch at drivers side trunk. – The windows roll up and down nicely, no cracks or chips in them, and they seal well. It has its excellent shape original paint argent silver grille with zero cracked pieces and the lower grille is also unblemished. All moldings and emblems are in place and in good shape. Bumpers are shiny and straight. The car is straight and extremely solid.  RP23M2G152xxx  vin #.
**   The car is a nice driver, it would not win its class at any large regional Mopar meet. It is not pristine or highly restored.  It will get attention and positive comments for being a "day 2" car with original interior and trim and funky lilac/lavender paint, if you meant to bring it to shows.  Maybe you'll stuff it full of stroker motor, change the paint and go racing. Whatever happens, its an excellent start for a buyer of this body style Plymouth.

** Interior is the factory H6XY setup with a black dash, black carpet and console+ white vinyl sport bucket seats, white interior trim, white and woodgrain doorpanels. The front seats are getting age/use separation at the bottom seams. Back seat nice, the front upper + upper rear door panels are in quite nice shape. The lower door panels and front seat  plastic covering sections have fingernail {?} scratches in them and are taking on some light yellow from age. Dash vinyl is in nice shape, not faded or misshapen, but has one 2 inch crack on the top of the dash passengers side where they almost all typically split eventually. Dash face is the original plastic woodgrain rallye style in above average shape , with no cuts in it. Original decent looking for the age, but age/use worn serviceable carpet with one 1 inch hole and no fading. Slapstick handle and console in good shape.  Gage faces clear, good color on numbers and sweeps. Speedometer, oil pressure, temperature, fuel level, all work. Clock does not. Amp gage wire is not attached to the alternator anymore due to the 1 wire 100 amp internally regulated alternator- but the gage did work before I bypassed it.  Heater/ defroster controls and fan works, rear defrost blower works, all lights work.  Headliner has small hole and discoloration from original material color, but is still taut and does not sag. Rear interior header panel has 2 vintage speakers in it. Original vinyl top staring to peel at back edge. Super solid underneath on roof though.

**Original Door Vin # ID sticker in place… Original Data plate on inner fender in place… Found a broadcast sheet from another Sebring a few Vin#’s away from this one, did not check all known spots, but checked a few.
** Engine is the original matching # 400 cubic inch 2 barrel carburetor motor. Has a aftermarket “magnum” cam, basically close in specs to factory 4 barrel hi-po unit, which the previous owner had installed- have specs on box.  Original , un-rebuilt long block with performance items added.  1972 Hi-performance iron exhaust manifolds. 2 1/2 ” dual exhaust. Engine doesn’t smoke black/ blue/ or white.  It does have a “ticky” lifter on the passenger side. Will put a couple drops of oil on your garage floor if it sits more than a month. Has an exhaust leak on the driver side. There is a rattle in the exhaust, tinny sounding at idle, goes away at speed, I think it is the factory "warm-up" butterfly valve inside the manifold- that piece does work though. Transmission is 727 automatic which shifts well, all gears work. The slapstick shifter works correctly. I believe the transmission is a stock rebuild but it is Not the matching # original unit. Emergency brakes work, and regular brakes stop it well and evenly, Power front disc/ rear drum. The engine and drivetrain starts, idles, runs, accelerates, drives, turns pretty well.  15x8” rims with 245+255 /60/15 tires, 90% tread.
** New parts in last 2000 miles with receipts. Edelbrock thunder avs style 800 cfm manual choke carburetor. Weiand 8008 stealth alum intake. MSD digital 6A box + billet distributor, MSD coil + wires. Northern Aluminum radiator, Dual elect fans, new hoses, Canton overflow canister, goodmark shocks, Odyssey AGM battery, Flaming river 16 to 1 manual steering box + conversion shaft, Autometer tach, PRP electric water pump, 2 quart deeper transmission pan + stainless cooling lines, 100 amp Tuffstuff alternator and Tuffstuff hi-torque mini starter, Milodon oil pump, eldelbrock 6.5 psi mechanical fuel pump, Randy’s Ring and Pinion installed new 3.55 rear gearset + new Auburn style suregrip in the factory 8-1/4 axle. Speedo gear from A+A trans installed for correct reading. Repro rim center caps+ trim rings, neutral safety switch, all fluids.   --&&-- Included with the car purchase but removed during installs-- all A/C parts, lines , evap, hoses, condenser, etc.  orig PS pump/hoses/alt/fan/radiator/shroud/rear gearset 2.76w/suregrip/ 2bbl intake/ 4bbl intake.  Plus a few other useful new in box cosmetic parts, and a new ChargerSpecialties 8000 rpm repro tachometer.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
