1973 Plymouth Road Runner

Body: This car was in good shape to start with. It belonged to a friend who was a professional body man and painter. It was his personal car and he went to great lengths to make the body laser-straight. There is no hood. There has been some support bars welded to stiffen the front of the car up between the fire wall and frame rail and in the lower radiator support area. There are sub-frame connectors welded in and I tried to take good pictures of all the work that looks nicely done. There has been a patch put in the driver's side floor pan. There has also been a few patches put in the trunk floor. The cowl area is very solid as is the frame rails, torsion bar cross member. This car is ready for final sanding and paint. The engine bay, cowl area and doors have already been jambed. The car was completely taken apart and from my inventory the bumper brackets, 1 headlight mounting panel, 1 lower windshield trim corner, emblems, door handles, antenna bezel and trunk lock cylinder as well as quite a few bolts are missing.

Mechanical: The car has front disc brakes, front and rear sway bars, manual steering and brakes, and there is a adjustable proportioning valve inside the car. It has very large front torsion bars, hooker headers, good exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, new gas tank, and extra long wheel studs. The rear-end is an 8 3/4 3.91 POSI ----completely rebuilt....new bearings, new POSI unit, new brakes. There is a 4-speed trans that will need to be re-built...bell housing, fly wheel , inspection cover, z-bar, clutch fork and drive shaft are all here. There is NO MOTOR but is set up for a small block. The rear tires are 295/50 16 and the front tires are 265/50 16s with like-new treat mounted on custom 16-inch cop car wheels.

Interior:  The interior will need to be completely redone. It was originally blue but the previous owner collected a complete set of nice, black hard plastic parts i.e. kick panels, door panels, sun visors. Most all of the cores to redo the interior are there except the rear seat. The back glass and rear quarter glasses are with the car but I could not locate the front door glasses or the windshield but they should not be hard to come by. There are bags and bags of bolts, clips and various parts. Some of the pieces are duplicated such as the grill, and tail lights and I am sure there are a few missing pieces that I missed.

Miscellaneous:  I am selling this car for the father of my friend and owner of the car who died. The car was completely dismantled for restoration. I did the best I could to collect all of its pieces and to describe it as accurate as possible. There has been hundreds of man hours put in this car and it is basically ready for paint. You will not be disappointed in the body.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
