This car is a real wow! 1971 Plymouth road runner the started it's life as a Satelite Sebring Plus with a 318 CI engine. Was a B-5 car, built in Windsor, Ontario, in December 1970, crossed at Niagra Falls on New Years eve, and delivered to it's first home in up state NY. I always wanted a HEMI road runner so I built this one.
Engine: 525 CI stoker HEMI, Stage V Heads, Manifold, and polished allum. valve covers. Two Holley 750's. Custom Air Grabber base plate to fit. Engle K-8 Hyd cam. 586 lift, 249@ .50. TTI 2 1/8 plated Headers, 3 inch TTI ex, ELECTRIC CUTOUTS, stainless Machine Gun tips. Tans: 727 built to HEMI specs, Floor Shift, 10 inch converter. Deep Pan, real HEMI trans cooler. Rear: Strange DANA 60, 411, narrowed 1.5, perches offset 1.5. Pinion snubber Four wheel power disc. Cal trac and stock HEMI leafs included. Stock HEMI tor bars, front anti sway bar. Billet Specialties wheels, 7x18, 10x18 305 45 18 Nitto 555 in rear Fab paint job in Curious Yellow, hand done graphics, Air Grabber. Perfect interior, recovered and restored cluster with 150 MPH and Tach, trunk mounted battery. I owned this car for years and always kept up with the cleaning (top, bottom, and inside) and polishing. It has won national show awards. I have run it at the track best time 10.74 (fast day), will do low 11's with traction (sometimes a problem) all day. The paint is perfect, the car always starts, is very fast, and can be driven often and taken down the track from time to time if you want. Open the electric cutouts to annoy or impress, and also to pick up a tenth or two. It is a nice car to drive. |

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
