 Here we have a hard to find real 1968 Petty Blue Road Runner. I found this car in Georgia painted a different dark blue, but all the original petty blue was still in the trunk. behind door and window seals, and under the seats. I have almost 50 pics of the original paint that will go with the car to the new owner on a thumb drive. The body tag is the original with the 999 under the PNT paint code. There is also a 9 under the top row under Y, which is Special Order in 68, which is required on 999 code paint cars. The car was built on January 11, 1968, which is the correct time period most of these cars were painted. In my research with actual mopar people from that time period, these cars were painted petty blue to promote both the new road runner for 68 and that Richard Petty would be driving one in the Inaugral Daytona 500 in February.  Larger down south Plymouth dealers would receive one to promote the road runner. In my research these cars are removed from the line and hand painted after carrying in gallon cans of paint(verified by actual worker at st. louis plant in late 60's). He stated usually 2 or 3 were removed at one time. This would also make sense due to the fact that the vin sequence one ahead of mine(070) is registered as a petty blue road runner in Galen Goviers registry. The body tag is original, looks and weighs correctly, and has two inspection stampings common to the St. Louis plant. I do not have a build sheet.
The was very solid when I got it, it was in running driving condition, but with the wrong motor, a mid 70's 400, so the original motor is gone. I was able to trade that 400 to a street racer who stated that year was good for stroking, he had a stock re-built 1968 383HP motor for trade. It was standard bore with new bearings, cam, rings, etc. The heads were also 906's and rebuilt with hardened seats. Correct 68-69 numbered HP exhaust manifolds were included. I added a new a/c HD water pump and new 180 thermostat. I then had a 727B rebuilt by a friend who has been working at a transmission shop for over 20 years. He also rebuilt the 742  3.23 rear end and i had him add a fresh sure grip. Was able to get a recored 22 inch 2898044 radiator which is the correct number for a 68 b-body 383 2bl with auto. It it just one number off, should be a 045, but the price was great and the radiator has the exact same outlets, shape, and auto cooler, and their both 2 cores anyway, so I didn't see the reason in paying alot of extra money for the one digit difference. It has the correct 7 blade fan and spacer and runs cool. It has new aluminized dual exhaust with new tips. Engine has correct federal power steering pump. Had the correct 4401 carter AVS, but the float needle seats seem to be sticking after sitting for a week or two, so I'm putting on a new Edelbrock. The 4401 is included with car.
Car was completely disassembled and taken to a 20+ year body man who does work out of his home now. this is the 4th car I've had him do and have never been disappointed. The trunk pan and trunk extensions are original. He put on AMD partial quarters on both sides. A couple of small patches on rear floor where your feet would be. The left front frame rail was also replaced from an early front end collision. It is an excellent job and there were no issues at the computer aided alignment shop. The petty blue paint looks great, everybody likes it, even non-mopar people. It looks funny in some of the pics because of sun and shadows. It needs to be seen in person.
The interior was completely re-done with legendary seat covers, door panels, carpeting, headliner. All dash components are detailed nicely, white letters on switch panel. nice white letters on all guages and speedo. The odometer shows 68,800, which I believe to be correct, but no way to verify that. The odometer numbers are not yellowed and they rest in proper horizontal position, not crooked like it's turned over or been messed with. Everything works in interior, gauges, radio, rear speaker, wipers, lights, and heater. In-dash tach is an original, not the repro with the fat needle. All glass has been polished and is date coded except windshield. All outer trim and grille have been polished. The finish Panel is an excellent original. Chrome on taillight bezels excellent. Both bumpers rechromed at a quality shop that uses nickel and the other good stuff that the eco-freaks are trying to get rid off. The whole front suspension was re-done, control arm bushings, upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman, idler, etc. All new stainless steel brakes lines, new rubber flex lines, new wheel cylinders, master cylinder and shoes. new power booster, not re-built. Had to have all new components to put in the dot 5 silicone fluid. All new stainless steel fuel lines, new tank and pick-up tube. New stainless steel gas tank straps. All the ss looks original and stays nice and shiny, don't have a climate controlled garage. All side markers excellent and work. Correct 116 jack assembly with a new trunk mat. 4 new Monroe gas matic charged shocks painted semi gloss black to look original. Undercarriage degreased, wire brushed and then completely por-15 coated. Just floor and frame, springs natural color with axle u-bolts, see pics. Heater box has new core and been detailed. Bumper brackets sandblasted and painted semi gloss black. Many other new parts. Engine compartment looks stock with corbin clamps, red lettered regulator. correct resistor, wiring, air cleaner, master cylinder cover. Yes i know the dist. cap should be tan, just haven't gotten around to changing it. New black RR horn, new battery cables.  
I've tried to make it look as stock and original as possible, it is not all date code correct. It even still rides on good ole points and condensor. Wheels are 14 inch chrome road wheels with excellent tires. I've tried to cover everything i would want to know about a car before bidding. Any questions, ask before bidding. I was recently at the Mopar Happening car show at Belvedere, Illinois this last sunday(20th) and I was approached by a coordinator for the Musclecar and Corvette show that goes on in Rosemont Illinois in November. He is putting together a display of high impact color cars that are bright and or unusual. He has been looking for a true Petty Blue car for the show, which is invitation only!. After looking it over and discussion on verification, he asked if it could be included in the display. He also stated if I sell it that the new owner was also welcome to bring the car for display, but he need a commitment soon because he's putting together the promotion for the up coming show this winter in Rosemont. He likes everything about the car but did mention he would like to see a set of redlines on the car to make it look totally original, but was not a condition on acceptance. So I'm not guaranteeing a spot in the show but I think he'll have a tough time finding another finished presentable car in the next 2 weeks. So the winning bidder will get his business card with his name and number on to get in the prestigous Musclecar and Corvette Nationals.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
