ADDITIONAL PHOTOS FROM THE PUBLIC DOMAIN OF PHOTOBUCKET: http://s514.photobucket.com/user/redeuce/library/1955%20PLYMOUTH%20BELVEDERE The high line Belvedere appeared in showrooms in 1953, as a sub model of the Cranbrook line. In 1954 it returned as the stand alone luxury model. The problem was styling. Chrysler was struggling to shake the stodgy, post war reputation. Soon, Chrysler knew it had to make a drastic move. They spirited a promising young designer from Studebaker who had a reputation for extravagance, Virgil Exner. All Plymouths were treated to a major overhaul for the 1955 model year. He had a free, almost total reign that year. That was the first year of Exner's "Forward Look." The Belvedere returned as top-of-the-line. Plymouth
redesigned its entire line in an effort to compete with its' sister brands,
Chrysler, DeSoto, and As stated,
this restoration was performed a few
years back, but very few miles have been logged since and the car has been
garage parked. This car is not perfect, but if you take the time to view the Photobucket
file, you will see that it is a very nice example. The southern body is
straight and solid. Refinished in factory two tone Black and Red. Paint has
been buffed and has a nice shine. A few minor flaws from driving, but overall
very good condition. Glass is in very good condition. Single sport mirror.
Chrome and stainless also in very good condition. Deluxe front and rear bumpers
with bumper guards. Steel wheels with full Plymouth hubcaps. White wall tires. Engine and
engine bay are nicely detailed. Hy-Fire 259 Cu. In. V8 engine. Two barrel
carburetor mounted on cast iron intake manifold. Engine is painted the proper
silver. Correct stock components throughout, including air cleaner. Still in
the original six volt configuration. Stock exhaust manifolds. Dual exhaust.
Still charged by generator. Manual drum brakes. Power Flite automatic
transmission. Coil springs and shocks on the front. Leaf springs on the rear.
Please view the undercarriage photos carefully. Never detailed, all natural,
and solid as a rock. Trunk is also rock solid. Original trunk mat appears to be
in place. Two tone
seats with red vinyl trim. Factory pattern, in very good condition, cushions
and covers. Door panels, carpet, and package shelf in great shape. Headliner is
excellent. Inside bright work and trim is in very good condition. Factory dash
mounted shifter. Dash is very nice. All gauge faces are clear. Factory AM
radio. Factory gauges. Solid steering wheel. Door jams, seals, and
weatherstripping all very clean. Don't let
this beautiful car get away. Common sense dictates this Belvedere won't last
until the end of auction. Financing is available to qualified buyers at JJ

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars
Wed, 30 Jul 2014The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
