I own a restoration business and am selling my 1970 GTX to make room for more restoration projects. I bought this car in 2006. It has original paint but not the right motor.  I have a photo album documenting the car from the beginning to end of the restoration, inside and out.. I disassembled the car and had it dipped.  There was very little rust.  From there it was a 3 year restoration.  I have the original build sheet and fender tag.  I also have complete paperwork from Galen V. Govier.  The car turned out to be 1 of 4 registered with them.  Highly optioned: AC, PB, PS, PW, cruise control, 6-way seat, AM/FM stereo 8 track plus many more options. I built this car to drive, like I do with all others.  The engine is date coded  11/6/69 and the car was built 11/6/69.  Tom Stamey, a professional high performance engine builder, built the motor.  It is a 499 cubic inch stroker motor.  Motor runs strong, bored 0.45over, squared line decked and honed, roller motor, Eagle h-beam rods, Eagle crank, 11.5 to 1 compression Indy 906 heads, stainless steal valves, PWR roller rockers and Crane roller lifters.  It produces about 500 HP and runs cool.  I installed a Snow Performance Methanol system to take away detonation.  I rebuilt the transmission with 2600 stall SMR converter.  The AC is ICE cold and is charged with R-12.  I had a JVC stereo and amp installed.  I used 20 inch Foose wheels on the back and 18 inch on the front.  It has a 3.50 gear ratio sure grip in the rear, at 70 MPH the RPM is at 2700.  N0 expense was spared in this restoration!  I used as many NOS parts as I could and have well over $100,000.00 invested in this car.  If you have any questions feel free to call me at 863-604-7684 and ask for Mike. The name of my shop is Michael's Auto Restorations in Winter Haven, Florida.  The car will be on display at the Gatornational March 13 - 16, 2014.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
