1969 Plymouth Gtx - Beautiful, Factory Restoration, Numbers Matching No Reserve! on 2040-cars
Los Angeles, California, United States
I will give you a minute - go ahead and scroll down and take a look at this STUNNING 1969 Plymouth GTX in what can only be described as the ONLY color combination this car should have EVER been offered. Go get your fix, I'll wait - heck I'll go drool a little myself for a minute too!
Ok, are we back? I'm a little light headed too! Seriously, what a treat it is to offer this BEAUTIFUL GTX in a NO RESERVE auction. I place this ad with great respect and acclaim for this car. This was the muscle car for the upscale driver in 1969. More luxurious and more well-appointed then its stripped down Roadrunner brother, this GTX was meant to hammer the pavement, but pretend you were an adult. The GTX rumbles under your seat and GROWLS as you lean into the throttle. It transports you back to 1969 as you comfortably pull up to that stop light grudge match and effortlessly prepare to embarrass that local guy in his brand new Chevelle. You are calmly confident because your car is a BEAST from the factory and with its 440 Super Commando and its 375hp. When that goes green take a moment to smirk as you simply plant your foot and rocket off into the night, vague Chevelle headlight shapes in your rear view. You slowly transport back to present day, in the same factory fresh GTX with the same smirk and same headlight shapes in your mirror. But now, as you back out of it, you head back your house, still smiling, still comfortable and still equally as impressed in your gorgeous GTX. Background: Let me begin with a little background of this GTX. On Christmas Eve of 1968 in Concord, California, the original owner bought himself an early present in the form of this breathtaking GTX. I would love to know the story, or see a moment of the excitement as the day before Christmas he rumbled home. Or maybe, it was present from his wife...or if she was so lucky, a present TO his wife. We can speculate for days, but a Christmas Eve purchase just adds to a charming and storied past for this GTX. It was purchased at Freeway Chrysler-Plymouth and would have stickered for about $3,500 before any options were ticked. And options they did tick! Let's start at the beginning! The GTX was assembled at the Los Angeles assembly plant on December 3, 1968 and left the factory with the following: E86: 440cu , 4bbl, 375hp Super Commando engine D32: A727 Torqueflite Automatic Column Shift transmission A4: Platinum Metallic paint P6R: Premium Trim, Vinyl Buckets in Red R6: Red upper door frames A01: Light Package A04: Basic Group C21: Center Front Seat with fold down arm rest (a very rare option!) C55: Bucket Seats G33: Outside LH Remote Chrome Mirror H51: Air Conditioning J25: 3-Speed Wipers with Electric Washers L31: Fender Mounted Turn Signals M21: Drip Rail Mouldings M33: Body Side Mouldings N85: Tachometer R22: AM Radio V1X: Vinyl, Black Roof 26: 26" Radiator This car is Galen Govier registered/documented and is 1 of 1 in the registry. Again: 1 of 1 with these options in the Galen registry. This car comes with the full Galen report, certificate and decoding. The Condition and Service: This car has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained and restored! Let's start on the engine and drivetrain: -ENGINE This engine was rebuilt when restored a few years ago and drives wonderful! Only 46,300 miles appear on the odometer and the entire car shows as if its 4,000 miles. We believe these are original miles without an odometer rollover. The GTX roars to life instantly even when cool outside. And I mean ROARS! The exhaust makes all the right noise: a nice rumble at idle, a mellow growl at cruise and an explosion of lions when you lean into it. The engine leaves no drips and burns no oil. Even in 90 degree temps in traffic it does not run hot at all! Cool as can be! It was an occasional weekend driver for the owner, so at very light throttle tip in there can be a very minor hesitation that appears to clean up nicely as you drive. All the power is there and the engine is beast! The factory tach works!!! I'll say again - working factory tach!!! Turn the key, watch the tach rise and hear this GTX come to life! Check out the factory marked radiator and heater hoses!!!! -TRANSMISSION The TorqueFlite 727 trans shifts wonderfully and crisp and downshifts on demand with no issues!! The 727 is a legendary transmission is lives up to its lure! -REAR END The Sure-Grip posi rear is in great shape, makes no noise and has no slack at all. Slip the car in gear and there is NO lurch as the pinion and gear take up the slack! Lets move to the suspension and brakes: -BRAKES NEW front and rear brake shoes that feel wonderful. No pulling under braking and with the power brakes feel fantastic. The braking system is controlled, powerful and stable. -SHOCKS Great feeling OEM shocks. They are soft on bumps and tight in corners. The car handles wonderfully! -STEERING The steering is tight and has no excess play and drives fantastic!!! The power steering is a treat! Let's continue to the exterior: -PAINT The paint is very nice! It is a 9++ out of 10 easily. Nearly every inch of this car is factory fresh with only incredibly minor flaws. Any flaws are so minor they are near impossible to even see in close up pictures, there is a 1/8" chip on the edge of the drivers door right on the very edge. It's near impossible to see. And there is a scratch about 1/4" long and not deep on the passenger quarter panel. Could almost not mention it just trying to be thorough!!! They are it. I don't see anything else and themselves are virtually imperceptible!! The car was also finished in option code V21 black performance hood paint which is factory new shape! -TIRES BRAND NEW Firestone Super Sport Wide Ovals, Redline tires. 95%+ tread! How great do the Redline look against the red body stripe just south of the body moulding??? -WHEELS The Magnum 500 wheels are in great shape and near new condition! -GLASS Not to let a pebble defeat this car, the windshield has not a chip and the side glass is clear and smooth. The rear glass has a minor scratch but in fantastic shape. -BODY There is not a drop of rust on the body this Southern California car! No bubbles, no loose paint, no issues!!!! -FRAME AND UNDERSIDE The frame is solid, the floors are solid, the trunk is solid, the car is SOLID!!!! This was not a trailer queen! It was driven as a weekend cruiser and will show signs of some chipping of paint or light surface oxidation from those chips or on the leaf springs, bolts from tool use, etc. The expected minor signs of use from a non-trailer queen! The undercoating is in good shape - see the below pic! Onto the cabin: -SEATS The premium red vinyl seats are fantastic!!! There is NO tears, NO seams coming apart. They are supportive with no sags. The vinyl is soft and buttery and the foam and the springs are supportive with no signs of fatigue. They are simply gorgeous. -DOOR PANELS The door panels look fantastic! All of the panels are free of dents or defects. -HEADLINER The headliner is in fantastic shape! No sags, tears or issues and looks brilliant in the stunning red! -CARPET Gorgeous carpet in the car. Incredible cleanliness and quality and look the part of a brand new car. -WINDOWS The window guides are fantastic and smooth. The seals are tight and the windows have no dead spots. -SEAT BELTS -The belts are in great shape with no frays or issues! -RADIO The AM radio turns on! -AC/HEAT The GTX was ordered with factory AC and is all present! The heater core has no leaks and all vacuum lines and canisters are in place. The heater/AC control has been a little finicky lately but all components in good shape! -MIRRORS Drivers mirror and rear view mirror both in great shape!! -STEERING WHEEL The plastic wheel is perfect. No cracks, no scratches, it feels as it would in your hands from the factory! -TRUNK The trunk mat is in perfect shape and the trunk floor is in perfect shape!! The spare Firestone Wide Oval is present as well as an unused jack still with its wrapping! The inner quarter panels are in fabulous condition!! -MISCELLANEOUS The car comes with extras such as the original factory manual, warranty book and the super rare plastic cover for each. Also, as mentioned, the full Galen Govier registry and documentation. This really highlights and completes the car's story. Also, the owner assembled a beautiful binder filled with the report, options lists, photos of the car and further documentation. The car even comes with a little clone of itself in 1/18th scale! The car comes with interior spare parts such as the hard to find NOS heater vents. The Experience Driving this GTX is like no other. It will cruise like your daily driver, calmly and collectively. And when you see that annoying Chevelle, it wakes up with apocalyptic force! It has all the power it had from the factory and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this car is an astonishing and beautiful GTX. Treat yourself to this car, already restored and beautiful and ready to enjoy, in this NO RESERVE AUCTION! There has been countless dollars spent on this restortation and BOY does it show! Don't buy a slightly cheaper GTX just to multi-thousands of dollars to bring to this level of restoration. There is an incredible amount of pride, meticulous and professional care and top-tier service in this car. Don't buy from a dealer with the "churn-um-and-burn-um" mantra - they buy from an auction or get a trade and put the car right back for sale. This is a private sale, from a private owner who knows this car intimately and took care of it as deeply as one can. Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the world I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new car as soon as possible. CA residents, registration good until August 2014! The 1969 plates are in mint shape with the original 1969 registration sticker. SUPER RARE, but will not come with the sale, unless pre-discussed. My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a pre-owned car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service. I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves classic MOPAR (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these cars. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a pre-owned car and will have minor signs of use. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new car. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a classic car that however is EXCEEDINGLY well above average for its year and quality of restoration Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have eBay 3rd party mechanic service check out the car I more than welcome it. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Please ask any and all questions AHEAD of purchase. All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech. Please feel free to ask any and all questions!! Happy bidding - this is no reserve and someone is about to own the most beautiful GTX ever made!!! On May-11-14 at 19:12:07 PDT, seller added the following information: And I said it in the title, but let me say it in the body so we can all smile just a bit more... NUMBERS MATCHING ENGINE AND TRANS! Happy bidding! |

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]
Mon, 16 Jun 2014
We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
