Bakersfield, California, United States

A 1969 Plymouth GTX 2 door hardtop, 440 CID Six Barrel with 3.54 rear axle and Track Pak. I have owned the car for 13 years, with about 2000 miles driven during that time. The previous owner told me this car was originally owned by Houston Astros pitcher JR Richard, who bought it near his hometown in Louisiana in 1970, however I cannot confirm that. Went to Houston TX, then CA. Originally a 440 4 bbl car, the car had a complete and meticulous engine rebuild in the late 1990's with $8000 invested,  adding 12.5:1 pistons, 3 Holley carbs, Edelbrock high rise intake manifold, High Performance cam and crankshaft and was rated at 500 hp on the dynamometer after the rebuild, according to the previous owner. I had brand new dual Flowmaster mufflers installed 5 months ago. The car runs great and is fun to drive. There are no dents and no rust on this car. It has a Hurst competition 4 spd shifter, 14 inch Magnum 500 wheels, and P225-R70-14 Goodyear Eagle GT tires. VIN:  RS23L9G184107.   R -Plymouth Belvedere/Satellite, S - Special GTX,  23 - 2 dr hardtop,  L -440 4 bbl, 9 - 1969 model year, G - St. Louis MO assembly plant.   I have the original fender tag. Tag codes are: A33 Track Pak, C21 Center Front Seat w/Arm Rest, D21 4 spd manual transmission, E86 440 CID 4- barrel, J25 3 spd wipers, J55 Undercoating, N85 Tachometer (not working), N96 Air Grabber, R11 AM Radio, S77 Power Steering, S81 Wood Grain Steering Wheel, V21 Performance Hood Paint, V6W Sport Stripe, W21 Chrome 14 inch Road wheels, T83 14 inch Tires. Car comes with Reproduction Window Sticker, Glovebox Owner's Manual, Plymouth Sales Literature, and 1969 Plymouth Shop Manual.   When you drive this car, you will be transported back to 1969 and the muscle car era !

Sorry for duplicating the above information, I was trying to add some additional information and accidentally added the existing info.   Apparently there is no way to reverse this and this does not change the listing.   Thanks for looking.

On Jan-26-14 at 10:08:38 PST, seller added the following information:

Hi, to answer an email question, yes, because of the high compression pistons in this car,  I would recommend adding 1-2 cans of Octane Booster to each tank of 92 Octane street fuel when you fill up.   You can get it at any auto parts store and it will prevent engine knocking under full throttle situations.     If you put 108 octane fuel in this car, it runs like a rocket and will likely defeat any comparable Hemi car on the street.   Thanks for looking !

Hear it run!!    Sorry, the video link may not be working.   If not, go to YouTube, and in the search box type "1969 Plymouth GTX mocus1" and it will be the first video at the top.   Thanks for looking !

Hi, to answer another email question, the car has a dual-point distributor, and a Dana 60 Sure-Grip rear differential with 3.54 gears

On Jan-26-14 at 14:08:37 PST, seller added the following information:

Hi, a few emails have asked about the fender tag and the broadcast sheet.   I have the original fender tag, and I will include it, however it was damaged when someone previously tried to clean or restore it, and it has some holes in it, likely chemical damage.    You may want to have a reproduction made, and all the codes on the tag are on the window sticker and listed in the description.    I do not have a broadcast sheet.    The original color was Silver (code A4), I'm not sure if it was this more platinum silver that you see now.   Some people have said the interior blue trim is "unusual" for the exterior color.   Again, I am not representing the car as a perfect, numbers matching example, but you won't have to pay $40-50k like you would for such a car.   Hope this helps.  Thanks !

On Jan-26-14 at 21:20:34 PST, seller added the following information:

Hi, the car has power steering but not power brakes.   All the lights and turn signals work, the factory tachometer does not work but Year One probably has a replacement for that.    The back up lights work, but the dash lights are a bit dim and they have a thumbwheel brightness adjustment.   There is a yellow "Reverse" light on the dash to remind you that you are in reverse.    There is a pull out vent tab called "Carb Air" to open and close the Air Grabber.

On Jan-27-14 at 10:11:54 PST, seller added the following information:

The interior carpeting is black and there are no rips or tears of any kind on the white vinyl seats.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
