I bought this from the estate of the original owner who lived in the desert climate of San Bernardino County, California.

She drove it very few miles. It still has original muffler and shocks, seat doesn't sag, so mileage seems realistic. Runs
flawlessly, even with Cal smog equipment hooked up. Trans is perfect, suspension and body tight. Drum brakes are
OK but not modern in any way. AC is intact and compressor turns over, but needs refill of refrigerant, which is the now
rare Freon.

The repaint is mediocre, but the body is very straight except for small signs of body work on right rear quarter panel.
There is no evident damage seen from the inside of the trunk. Underbody is absolutely perfect, no snow in the desert.
Glass is fine except a slight arc of wear from one wiper, since replaced. All systems work except stock radio. Floor
pans under carpet are pristine.

I recently drove this a few hundred miles just for fun; got 24 MPG. Car is slow but  amazingly smooth. The 225
is a legendary engine for durability; it uses no oil or coolant. What it needs for more zip is milling the head to raise
the compressionfrom a really low 7.6:1, and a switch to the 2bbl carb used on later models. That requires a different
manifold. The Torqueflite tranny can handle any amount of horsepower, and is flawless. So putting a V-8 in there is
very straightforward.

I will have the 15" Rallye wheels for sale separately, unless Buy It Now is used. You can price the wheels with trim
rings at Wheels Vintique--at a grand they aren't cheap. Tires are Goodyears in great shape. The base Duster has
a 4" stud pattern; to put on modern wheels the axles have to be changed. That would also be a good time to put on
front disc brakes. This car has the smallest rear axle (7.25)so a V-8 would also require the larger Mopar axle, which
is cheap and plentiful.

If I kept it, I'd paint it, do the disc brakes, wheels and axles, and maybe gussy up the six--it really is a pleasant little
motor. But a 360 V-8 would be ideal. Consider this car as the foundation for your own personal choices. Any money
you put in would certainly come back to you. I would mention that Haggerty appraises this car at $7800. My reserve is
way less!

Car is on Vashon Island WA, near Seattle. I might drive it to you if it's not a zillion miles away.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
