Up for auction is a one owner 73 Barracuda. First, a little history, back in 1985, I was working as a petroleum distribution engineer for Shell Oil Co.  That's the fancy title we came up with while checking air pressure and cleaning windshields.  See, in simpler terms, I pumped gas at local gas station.  :)   Like a lot of gas stations of the day, there was a 2 bay garage where repairs were done.  Working there just fed my passion for cars.  From the old man that would bring in his tri-power Bonneville Convertible and original Model T Ford, to Mr. Newton and his father's original 1939 Ford (which he still owns and drives today !!), to the lady with the 427 Chevy Impala, to Mike the mechanic's '69 Chevy Nova, to Gary the station owner's son with his 4 speed 71 Mach 1 Mustang in Grabber Blue.  To the local strip club owner who used to come in and fill up his Ferrari.  And then there was this car. A 1973 Plymouth Barracuda meticulously maintained, driven and owed by a very nice lady.  I remember the car when it would come in for gas or some times for maintenance. I loved that car.  It was always so clean and sharp looking.  She always took excellent care of the car.  It was always garaged.  It always looked great when I saw it.  Back then, it was a car everybody wanted.  All you need to do was scoop it up, drop a built motor in it and have some fun. But our reality and economics of the time forced us to drive rusty heaps of crap with weak motors.  Endless patching of stuff like trunk floors and floor pans with fiberglass, slathering bondo on quarters and around back windows like pastry chefs smear icing on a cake. Hey, we were kids with no dollars and even less sense. Anyway, this is the car everyone wanted back then.  It was solid, complete and needed nothing.  By the late 80's, I lost track of the car, life goes on. Other cars came and went. Marriage. Kids. Mortgage. The usual. Well, fast forward to about 2006.  I still live in the same neighborhood and was pedaling around with my son.  He was a on a bike with training wheels and was on a mission.  We had gone further than we'd ever gone before that day.  While cruising through, a new to us part of the neighborhood, I saw a garage door open with a covered car inside.  The silhouette was unmistakable.  The cover has a tear in and I saw the right qtr panel stripe.  I could not believe it was the Barracuda from 20 years earlier.  I was so excited.  I went and knocked on the door and was met by the same lady.  She still owned the car.  We talked a bunch.  And after years of trying, I was eventually was able to get the car.


She is the original owner of the car.  She gave me the original bill of sale and a copy of the window sticker (she did not have the original).  She drove the car up until the late 80's, then  parked it.  It sat in that garage until 2014 when I took it out. 


So now the car, a 1973 Barracuda.  Sahara Beige exterior, green interior, 318 2bbl, 904 TQ automatic, 8 3/4 rear, FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING, power steering, power disc brakes, bucket seats, center console, light package, chrome racing mirror, 14 inch rallye rims.  The radio is a very hip 80's Audiovox headunit and equalizer.  Gotta love the 80's.  Speaking of the 80's, sometime during that decade of excess, the interior received some sort of "permanent" super shine treatment.  Take a look at the photos.  You will see the interior appears to be freshly hosed down in Armor-all.  I assure you I did no such thing.  In fact, I've absolutely nothing to the interior.  It is precisely how I purchased the car.  It appears to have this "coating' over most of the interior plastic parts.  While I'm sure it was well intentioned, it could have been done with a little more care.  The dash has as Grand Canyon sized crack in it.  Again, see the photos.  They tell the best story.


Now the best part, the body and undercarriage, again, see the photos.  There are lots of them.  This car is by far the VERY BEST original Mopar I have seen in a long time.  It's 2014.  There just aren't a whole lot of SOLID and I mean SOLID cars like this around anymore.  Look at the undercarriage pictures.  You will find one small rust hole on the driver's floor board.  It is not very big.  Other than that, the ENTIRE floor pan, frame rails, extensions, etc. are all rust free.  Not free from rust HOLES.  I mean rust free.  Again, the pictures tell the story.  It looks even better in person.  Now for the body itself, it does have a few areas of rust.  The car has obviously been repainted in the past. I'd have to guess in the early to mid 80's.  The rust seems entirely repairable with patch panels vs. full panel replacement.  Again, see the photos.  They tell the stoty much better.  Look at the grille photos.  I looks like it came out of the box last week.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
