Can be driven daily if you don't mind driving the old timers. It can be a workout with the drum brakes and the 3 speed on the column; but it does brake fine and it shifts smoothly. The 273 runs great, still plenty of power and actually runs very quietly. Turn signals work, but lever does not return so it needs a new switch. The tires are brand new, 14's all around but the rear two are a different brand than the front. Wipers and heater work. Speedometer does not work. Gas gauge is off, it is full right now but shows less than a quarter of a tank. Temperature gauge does not work, Alternator gauge does. The oil light is always on, but it runs quiet and way too strong to be a pressure problem, I think it's the sending unit. Please don't forget that anything that goes wrong with these antiques, is an easy fix.

The body is fairly straight and mostly rust-free. Definitely needs a full restoration if you were thinking of that. Passenger rear door linkage came undone, so the door won't open until the door panel is removed and fixed. Other doors, trunk and hood work well. Trunk floor is pretty nice but does have some scaly areas. Has some very hard to come by trim, still in great shape. Also has some rare emblems and gas cap. This was an A/C car and it actually looks complete, but does not work. Windows work well, windshield look decent. Hubcaps are nice and are probably worth something. Dash is ugly. Instrument cluster glass is out, along with the heater control; but the pieces are in a box in the trunk.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
