1971 Plymouth 383 Road Runner 1 of 7952 383 automatics produced, original N96 air grabber, high impact color car. Professional “rotisserie” restoration recently completed by Huffman Auto Body. Huffman Auto Body has won multiple first place awards at National events such as the Mopar Nationals and Chryslers at Carlisle.  This is the owner’s personal car and has been restored to a very high standard. The car was restored back to the original fender tag options. The original fender tag is on the car (no reproduction). The original broadcast sheet also is included with the car. The only added options are power steering, power disk brakes and spoilers.

Since the restoration the car has been driven for one summer to mainly local shows (~3000 miles) with a total of 94,218 miles showing on the odometer. This is an opportunity to own one of nicest 1971 Road Runners in the county at price significantly less than the restoration cost. When comparing this car to other cars on the market, you should consider the quality, level of detail and amount of new parts used on this car. There are other 1971 Road Runners on the market for sale for less money, but I do not believe you will find a better value

The dash VIN, Engine, Radiator Support and Original Fender Tag numbers all match. The transmission is not numbers matching and there is no VIN stamped in the cowl.

I have included a list of parts that add up to ~$24,000 used during the extensive restoration. If you are looking for a true “turn key”, professionally restored car that needs nothing, this is the car for you.  I have sold several cars on eBay over the past 13 years and have always received positive feedback. I am not a dealer, just a hobbyist and it is important to me that the buyer is satisfied with the car. You can be assured I have described the car to the best of my knowledge and will answer your questions honestly.

It is still buyer’s market for muscle cars and this car is priced accordingly. It would be nearly impossible to find an original 71 383 Road Runner and restore it to this level for my reserve price on this car.

Minor Flaws

  • Small Crack in Air Grabber Air Box

  • Four Speed Radiator with After Market Trans Cooler

 Body/ Paint/Trim

As you can see in the pics this car is very solid with no hidden rust issues. The body work and paint are excellent. The door handles are new. All the rubber seals, gaskets, window felts, emblems etc were replaced during the restoration. The windshield and one quarter window glass are new. The remaining glass is original and in good condition.

Mechanical/Electrical

The original 383 has been completely rebuilt at a cost of $5500. The engine runs perfectly and does not get hot. The fuel tank, fuel lines and fuel pump are also new. The rebuilt 727 transmission shifts and works perfectly. The 8 3/4 rear end has sure grip 3:55 gears. The car has a completely rebuilt braking system, including power front disk brakes. Almost everything under the hood is new including, water pump, alternator, starter, hoses, wiring harnesses, belts, plugs, plug wires, battery washer bottle, squirters etc. The rallye instruments have been rebuilt and refaced.  Everything on the car works; horn, lights, wipers, heater, radio, gauges, fog lamps, including the tach and clock etc. The car also runs nice with the newly recored 3 row radiator.

The gauge cluster has been completely restored at a cost of over $1200.

Parts List – As you can see below there is about $24K invested in parts.

There is a big variation in the level of restorations you will see when looking at cars for sale on the Internet. I want the buyer to know exactly what he/she is buying. As you can see below all the parts cost add up quickly when doing a restoration correctly. This is a very high quality show level restoration.   This represents the majority of the parts purchased, however I am sure I missed some. This does not include material and professional restoration labor.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
If you want to follow along with the coverage, check out the Hagerty Fantasy Bid online game here.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
