1970 Plymouth Road Runner (RM23N0G210xxx) 383c.i., factory B-5 blue car, Auto with a rare factory console (C16) and bucket seats, working Air Grabber, new 15” American Racing wheels and tires, 8 3/4 rear end with 4.10 posi unit, fender tag, front disc brakes, hood pins, black interior with silver lining, Road Runner trunk lid stripe, black hood treatment, dual exhaust with correct chrome tips, and the absolutely awesome show quality engine bay and fully painted undercarriage!

The Road Runner had a recent light restoration and is a multiple show winner and best of show award winner.  The Road Runner received a full rotisserie restoration over 10 years ago and has just had a light freshen up.  This fine Road Runner is an excellent all purpose car for shows, cruises and cruising!  Although not a 100 point concourse car… it will certainly garner respect and hold it’s own at any show.

PAINT, BODY AND FRAME

The body is very straight and in excellent shape.  All of the Road Runner’s body numbers match on the radiator support, trunk lip, fender tag and the VIN tag authenticating that it is a REAL B-5 Road Runner.  The Road Runner has had Mopar NOS full quarters and trunk floor installed many years ago. The trunk floor, floor boards, doors, fenders and trunk extensions are all in great shape. The frame is in excellent shape and the undercarriage was painted several years ago and still looks very good. It is clean and neat with no rust.  The body paint was done over 10 years ago and still looks excellent! There are no paint blisters or bubbles anywhere.  There are a few small chips that were brush touched.  Most of them are on the very lower 1/4 behind the rear tire.  The bottoms of the quarters, wheel well lips, doors and trunk lip are very nice and clean and not full of filler like most!  You can see the perfect factory seams the way it should be.  Even the factory drain plugs in the trunk extensions are perfect.  The Road Runner was also just professionally buffed in a very long multiple step process and has a stunning high gloss finish!  I would say the paint is a strong 8 out of 10.    I am also very picky and critical as well as honest.  Please call me at 412-496-1439 and I will be glad to go into great detail. Thanks!

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good condition.  The front windshield is newer and there are only a few small minor scratches on the original Mopar side glass and rear window.   All windows operate and line-up excellent.  The front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed.  The door handles, non-remote mirror and inside door handles are in nice condition.  The window trim is clean and was polished for optimum shine.  The front grill was restored, painted and looks great.

INTERIOR

The black interior is in excellent shape and has had a newer  headliner installed, new seat covers, seat foam, arm rest bezels, trunk divider, carpet, and speaker shelf.  All factory gauges work and operate correctly.  The factory temp gauge reads a little high so I added a new auto-meter temp gauge for accuracy.  All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, reverse lights, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light.  As typical the factory clock does not work.  The factory AM radio also works!

DRIVE TRAIN

The strong running mild built 383 makes excellent power and runs great.  The 383 has a brand new complete top end package on it with new 906 heads, comp cam (480 lift), lifters, timing chain, water pump and all new gaskets.  The 727 automatic shifts beautifully through all gears and is backed by a Turbo Action 10” 3000 stall converter. Although not numbers matching, the 383 is a date coded 1970 correct motor casting date of 12-5-69 (F383 on the ID badge which designates it as a 1970 engine).  The Road Runner has excellent drivability and cools well even in stop and go traffic.  The air grabber system works excellent and is a factory Mopar set-up not a reproduction.  It was added on the car over 20 years ago.  The 2 1/2 ” dual exhaust is new with correct chrome tips and it sounds excellent!  This excellent drive train combo runs very strong and drives awesome in all conditions whether highway or city driving.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
