1969 Plymouth Roadrunner Convertible, 440, Bucket Seats, Center Console Auto on 2040-cars

A Real Roadrunner. Its last owner had it since 1999 & kept it in a shed/garage all that time with intention of restoration. This car is best for a person wanting a lower priced driver for now, with the future thought of restoration. It is mostly "metal solid" where a restorer wants it to be. All the floors are factory patterns & over all perfect (taking into account small quarter inchers here & there). The trunk is solid with a center sheet metal patch (see picture). No problem frame. This was painted orange one time, but was this blue color originally. There are scratches, one seven inch gash (in the 87 pictures I took; ask-you will receive) & scrapes. Bubbling under paint in the outer quarters/rockers, on hood where "Plymouth" emblem would go, etc. MAIN things are that doors skins & bottoms, inner rockers, over-all quarters, floors, far outweigh the bubble trouble. Note the solid floors in the picture with the back seat out. *Doors close/open easy/quietly with NO drops & very close /flush fit.* Body allignments are decent. Glass is all good/functional with a small crack in the far upper passenger corner of the windshield (no need to replace unless restoring). Windows all roll up/down. The top is in very good condition as well as the top *glass*. Top will need a passenger side lift cylinder as it is leaking (pumps up with assist). There is some rust at the inner top rain well ends (cannot be seen without being inside car & making an effort to view. There is no rust where cylinders mount or anywhere around them. **Rare options: BUCKET SEATS (redone not long ago; do you really want a bench seat & column shift as it seems most mopar muscles were), CENTER CONSOLE AUTOMATIC FLOOR SHIFT, factory A/C(not working), PS, PB, PTop, tach in dash, deluxe stereo, deluxe interior lights. This is not a numbers matching car. Was originally a 383, now has a 1971 440 motor. Has an after market steering wheel (roadrunner horn center / ring in trunk if an original steering wheel is installed later). NEEDS: a couple side markers (full set (all four) on order), arm rests (backing plates & black arm rest cushions on order). Carpet was pulled up to inspect the floor panels; needs retucks. Needs top lift cylinder. Brake safety assurances/repairs. It starts very easy, seems to have lots of even power & idles steady with no incidents (No overheat or oil burning/smoke. Does seem to be set rich on the gas; I would guess carb will need rebuild. I cannot totally put it to the test since the right rear brake is sticking due to a leak. When that is fixed a more thorough report will be available (in a future listing). Transmission does not hesitate & no slippage, but more muscle driving experience would be best ( I don't burn tires as a test like the old days when all cars/tires were disposable & not planned as a collectible, so we smoked um costing ourselves tickets, tires & trans ). The NEW side markers, other new door panel, new arm rest plates & cushions will be installed before a buyer takes car. Car is running, rolling, steering, braking enough for transport loading, but I will not allow a buyer to drive it home with leaking brakes. If I get to the brakes & solve the leak, it will be good (this chore is not planned for this listing; most buyers would replace all brake wheel cylinders on a sitting vehicle & do an over-all safety check). That being said, it is an AS IS SALE. If you want a "top down" picture (certainly would help sell better) I will have one eventually when someone is around to assist me putting the top back up {re: cylinder leak}. A/C INFO-DETAILS-UPDATE: All parts are there. I think compressor clutch center "hand-turns", which means the A/C compressor is NOT ceased. As pictured, in dash output vents/louvers are in place as well as blower ON/SET slide controllers. Coil in front of the radiator is in place. Just for mention: the dash pads are still driver good (no cracks). Some paint peel on flat defrost vent area of dash. COULDA HAD THIS INSTEAD OF THAT MODERN CHALLENGER HARDTOP (FOR LESS MONEY FINISHED/RESTORED). Or, they can wait, watch, taking their chance another better convertible may appear, or this one may sell abruply. I'm in no hurry to sell for many reasons. Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
