This is a nice car needing a little tlc. I bought it on ebay about 16 months ago and planned on using the engine in a street rod project and then installing a 383 0r 440 and selling the body......well, plans changed after I became ill and just want to sell as I can no longer afford playing with expensive toys and it's taking up space in my garage. I'll try and give an honest appraisal of the car: The body is straight with no rust that I can see. Paint looks great but has a few issues the worst of which is some bubbles on the hood where the scoop is molded in. There are a few areas in the paint that have tiny bubbles but too small to photograph. The interior is really nice with body color vinyl seats, nice headliner, carpet, etc. Chrome is excellent as well as trim in nice shape. The engine runs ok but not being a mopar guy , I never learned too much about it. This had a solid lifter cam and I believe it could use a valve adjustment. It runs fine and no smoke, 80 psi oil pressure at start up and settles to 60 once warm. there is a small leak at one of the headers otherwise the exhaust is tight and sounds awesome. Trans is a 727 torqueflite with a manual shift body that was supposedly rebuilt but has a small leak at the bushing where the kickdown linkage goes. Brakes are front disk and rear drum. I was told by the former owner that the engine is from a 1967 charger but I have no way of checking that. The car will be sold as is with no warrantee with a small reserve. Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
