FIELD FIND! SAVED FROM CERTAIN DEATH!
1961 PLYMOUTH FURY 2-door V8 with push button automatic What I mean is, the farmer that had this car was not going to do anything with it and just let it die and certainly destine for the
crusher. He is 78 and couldn’t work on it. This is a rare old car and there’s not many
around. Approx 10000 were made and now only a few escaped the scrap yard. It’s
been sitting since 1989 in the same spot and finally the farmer wanted to sell
it… to me! So I bought it. The down side
is, I don’t have the shop space to do a restore project of this caliber. The car is original baby blue or powder blue
with what was blue/white interior. The 1961 Fury has uni-body construction,
torsion front suspension, flat rear fins, curved grille, long wheel base, large
sloping back window, and unique bullet tail lights make it very different to
any other cars ever made. This Fury needs COMPLETE RESTORATION inside and out,
drive train and brakes. See pictures. All components are there to work with and
restore. Anything “soft” has perished over the years like the headliner, dash
pad, weather stripping and some of the interior. Windows were down and
windshield was out for many years. I did install a windshield right away to
keep additional weather from destroying anything further. All glass is nice and nearly
all the trim is there. Missing some corner trim. I have an extra grille, curved
front trim left & right, extra windshield pillar trim left & right, 2
NOS tail light lens and 5 nice ’61 Fury hubcaps all go with the car deal.
This would be GREAT for a project car to restore back to
original, or make an awesome street rod.
I must mention that the body has some rocker rust and the car does not
run. I think it’s the original poly 318 with a 2-barrel carb. It has the push
button shifter automatic and a square sparkle steering wheel. Mileage on the odometer
shows 37692.6 and I’m certain it’s turned over. Car appears to have power assisted brakes and
a 3-row radiator. Aluminum side trim and aluminum trunk trim are okay. No major
dents. Again, there is some rocker rust.
Early publication articles stated on this cars body style is…
It’s [the ’61 Fury] kind of weird with furrowed eyebrow scowling and that the
designers were captured by aliens and this is what they came up with. Also,
other people said it looks like “The insect that ate Tokyo” or is the “angry
Plymouth”. Now my friends are kidding me
that Ward Cleaver may have test drove this car. Anyone can say what they want…I
think it’s a VERY cool looking car.
I’m listing it without a reserve in hopes the new owner will
do the restoring as it should be. There are parts out there for these cars and
may take some investigation to find because of the rarity and an only a 1-year
body style. It’s not like Impala, Chevelle, Corvette, Mustang, GTO or even
other MOPAR where there are 1000’s out there to choose parts and/or part
companies reproducing body parts. When you are done with this car, you will
have something that not everybody has driving around. I’m almost sure it’s the
only one on eBay at this time.
I do have clear Colorado documentation for you and not salvage documentation. Car is located is Colorado Springs, CO zip code 80909 I will assist in loading in any way I can for you. Thanks for looking and hope to see your bid!!! |

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars
Wed, 30 Jul 2014The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
