Up for auction is my 66 Barracuda Formula S. I rescued her about 20 years ago from a guy that was about a week away from cutting her up into a drag car. Unfortunately he threw away the original motor and trans because it was “only a 273”. These older cars weren’t vin stamped on the blocks anyway so the whole “matching numbers” thing doesn’t really mean much.

 

She has a 318 with 904 auto in her now with a factory 4 barrel manifold and Holley 600. This is a very low mileage motor that I dropped in so I could drive her. She was my daily driver until about 10 years ago when I bought my truck. She’s been sitting in my garage since then waiting her turn to get restored. She runs fantastic. Very strong and starts first click of the key. Tranny has shift kit and shifts nice and hard. Car has manual steering and manual brakes. Really nice white interior with center console. Carpet is gross. Original A/C car, everything in the cockpit is there, but everything under the hood is gone (remember the drag car story?). Although this car is drivable (except for a blown brake line), she needs a full restoration. The floors and frame rails are really nice. Engine compartment is awesome. Trunk floor is great as well. The paint is dull as is all the chrome. Stainless and anodized aluminum still look great. She needs 1/4 ’s and some small repairs here and there. This is a car that you just don’t see all the time. Easy restoration. This isn’t some project where everything is in boxes and bags. It’s all there. She’s well worth putting the time in to restore. Odometer shows only 87,232 miles. I have put a very reasonable reserve on this car. I hate to part with her, but a huge garage project forces the sale. Car has a clean and clear title.

 

Car will be sold as is, where is with no warranty. It must be understood that this is a 48-year-old vehicle and should be treated as such. Ask any and all questions BEFORE bidding.  Someone emailed me after checking the numbers on the fender tag, and they told me this probably not a formula S model, but just a Barracuda. When I bought this car 20 years ago, the car was as you see it now, wearing the S badges. They looked as if they'd always been there. The guy I bought it from said it was an S, and the motor he took out was a 273 4 bbl carb. I didnt care whether it was an S or not since the motor and tranny were gone anyway, I never bothered "crunching the numbers".  I wanted it because it was a nice body to drop my motor into. Being an S or not doesnt change the fact that this is a great car for very little money. Very reasonable reserve, and if you get close, I'll drop it to sell the car. Sorry for any confusion. SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. 'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
