I have a 1948Oldsmobile 98 Futuramic Club Coupe for sale with 71,000 miles. It has the original flat head straight 8 in it. The car was purchased at Tampa Motors in Tampa Florida in 1948, I have a copy of the original bill of sale, please see pictures. The car was brought up to Wisconsin in 1972. The car was undercoated at the dealership, this is also on the bill of sale. The under coating covered everything including the back of the headlights and turn signal lights. It is really thick and preserved everything very well. Other than some light surface rust on the rear axle the car is virtually rust free. The bottom door seams, trunk seams, raingutters, hood seams, trunk floor, body mounts and fender skirts show hardly any signs of any rust. The car is almost untouched from 1948. It had red seat covers on the seats which I removed. With the exception of the bottom driver's seat all of the original seat fabric is intact. It is in okay shape and probably should be replaced but I thought it was neat that it was still there. The head liner, door panels and rear seat panels were replaced at some point. I believe the carpet has been replaced, it is black and I think it is supposed to be brown. The car was repainted its original color black in the mid-eighties. I wet sanded and buffed the car and it is a decent 10-20 footer. The pictures make the paint look better than it is but in person it looks plenty presentable. The paint does have some knicks and a few dings but there is no major body damage. The chrome needs to be redone but every piece is intact. The stainless steel around the windows is near perfect. The stone guards on the rear fenders do have two dings in them. The engine runs like a top and the Hydramatic transmission shifts flawlessly. The original quadracoil suspension is intact and the hydraulic knee shocks still function like new. The car goes down the road at 65-70 with no issues and even though it has manual brakes and steering handles and stops very well. The brakes were all rebuilt last year, new cylinders and pads. The car has some nice options on it, bumper mounted reverse light, wheel trim rings, anti glare rear view mirror, glove box light, AM radio, electric clock and turn signals. The radio, reverse light, clock and glove box light are intact but currently do not work. All of the other dash and exterior lights work as does the horn and all of the gauges except the temp gauge. The original jack, lug nut wrench and spare tire are intact. If you look up the year and body style you will see it is somewhat rare, only around 3,400 of them were built in 1948. It was Oldsmobile's first re-design after the war. I have a ton of pictures that I can send including alot of close up shots that show how nice the car is. Please call with any questions or if you would like to come look at it. I have it at work so I can show it almost any day of the week. I tried to take pictures that showed the true solid conditon of the car, again if you would like any additional photos please ask. It truely is an un-restored time capsule, restore it, rod it or drive it like it is. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. I will assist with shipping but it is the responsibilty of the buyer. Thanks J.P. 414-520-5460

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
