Downsizing to one car so I'm selling my commuter car. This is a perfect example of a "Beater with a heater". It runs an drives perfect, gets really good gas mileage for a car of its size. I average 27 mpg in my 100 mile daily commute.
It's a 1995 Oldsmobile 88. It's got 111k miles and might have as much as 112k by the time the auction ends. It has a 205 hp V6. Decent power, keeps up with traffic easily. 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission gives it really good gas mileage. (Takes regular gas) Brakes are in good shape. Fronts are disc, rear are drums. I put on a set of 17" Mustang wheels and tires from my 2007 Mustang. The tires are a matched set of Pirellis with less than 10k miles on them. The tire size is 235/55/17. This helps the car handle much better than it did on the stock 205/70/15 tires. I still have the stock wheels/ tires and hubcaps and will throw them in the trunk if they are wanted.
It runs perfect in the 90 degree weather we've been having here. Even in traffic the temperature gauge never goes higher than what's in the picture.
The windows are tinted all around except for the windshield. They are legal in NY.
It just passed NY State inspection in June. There are no check engine or any warning lights of any kind.
Next oil change is due at 113,000 miles.
It does have many minor flaws. I will be 100% honest and list them all here so there will be no surprises for the next owner.
First and foremost; this car was equipped with an Audiovox alarm when it was purchased new in late 1994. The paperwork for it is still in the glovebox. The brain of the alarm has stopped functioning correctly. The horn part of the alarm has been disconnected, but the alarm is causing the power door locks to pull a constant drain from the battery. The battery will drain to the point of not being able to start the car if left unattended for more than 48 hours. I use the car almost daily, so this only happened to me once and didn't bother me at all. The easiest way to fix this would be to have the alarm removed or replaced.
Once in a while, (and by that I mean once every couple of thousand miles) it will randomly stall. It always starts right back up, but it happens so I'm letting you know. I've done no maintenence to this car beyond oil changes@3000 miles and putting in a new battery. I did notice that most of the original parts are present and have the dates of manufacture on them, 1994. I don't know if it has ever had the plugs, wires, fuel filter or any other tune up parts ever replaced. I'd recommend a full tune up. It does run fine the way it is though.
Power door locks don't work.
The rear windows don't go down. (Fronts both work fine)
The cruise control doesn't work.
The rear driver's side marker light bulb is out. (The one on the 1/4 panel.)
The passenger door lock key cylinder doesn't work, only the driver's side locks/unlocks with the key.
The factory stereo (which will be reinstalled) is missing a knob. It still functions perfectly, even the cassette player.
The 2 rear interior c pillar pieces have dry rotted from the sun. Makes it look like a dog tried to eat them. I took a picture of one.
The headliner has a loose spot about the size of a half dollar under the driver's side sun visor.
The material on all 4 sun visors (there are 2 on each side) is loose. It's not hanging off of it, it's just not tight.
There is a tear on the driver's side seat (pictured), and a scrape on the rear seat center armrest.
I charged the A/C a month ago. The refrigerant all leaked out. It looks like it leaked from the schrader valve on the service port. It still holds some pressure, just not enough to turn on the compressor. Probably just needs the schrader valve replaced and the system charged. It did blow nice and cold before it leaked out.
The rear coil springs are weak, as they are in all of these cars (Bonnevilles, LeSabres etc..). If its just being used for commuting its fine. If you plan on having people sit in the back, or putting a lot of stuff in the trunk, then the rear will sag and bottom out on bumps. They are cheap and easy to replace.
The paint is original and kind of strange. It is all scratched under the clear coat. It looks like it went through a car wash made of steel wool, or someone took a wire wheel to it and then clear coated it. I took a picture to show it. Looks great from 10 feet.
The valve cover gaskets seep oil and should be replaced. If you have a nice driveway, it will leave spots on it.
These 3800 engines, as well as most other GM V6 engines of the era, are known for having intake manifold gasket problems. I haven't experienced any coolant usage at all, but judging by the rest of the original parts on the car I'm guessing that they haven't been upgraded to the revised aluminum gaskets. This, along with most of the other problems are all easily fixed by an average home mechanic. If you are unsure of any of the things I'm talking about please google them, or ask questions. With some minor care this car can easily go another 100,000 miles.
If anybody wants to ask me "will the car make it to x or y location", the answer is yes. I have no doubt you can jump into this car and drive it to California today.
I believe that's everything. If I find or can remember something else I'll add it to the listing. This is a good reliable car that has lots of life in it. If you take care of it,it might last forever.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
