I bought this Olds Delta 88 Royale in September 2002 (registered at DMV, Wethersfield, CT, on October 4, 2002) from the original family owner. The car was in storage for about eight years (garaged) prior to the purchase. At the time of the inspection and test drive I noticed that the alternator was a little noisy (replaced after the purchase), also that while backing up the car had some hesitations (due to a faulty relay in the transmission that was completely rebuilt after the purchase). The original owner (non smoker, an elderly gentleman) was the only driver of this car (before he passed away in 1994). I am the second owner and only driver of this car since the purchase (also non smoker). I bought this car uniquely as spare or emergency car to my 1987 Chevy Caprice Classic (that is being used for daily driving), also because I liked it very much and it was very well maintained overall. The car was always parked under my double carport and properly maintained all the time. There were no scratches, dings, dents, rusty spots on the car at the time of the purchase, nor at present time.

The mileage at the time of the car registration was 90,340 miles.

Presently, the car has exactly 98,500 miles.

The car was only driven occasionally (mostly on highway) with circa 8,000 miles added in 11 years.

HIGHLIGHTS / WORK DONE

- alternator and belts replaced

- transmission completely rebuilt

- ceiling upholstery replaced

- brake line replaced entirely

- brakes replaced

- radiator replaced

- newer complete exhaust system

- minor body work and full paint job performed in February 2009

- other works done (all receipts - saved in the gloves' compartment - will be provided to buyer)

- the car comes with all paperwork (owner's manual, other) provided by factory and all decals affixed on the body

ISSUES

- the car suffered a minor dent in the rear panel (passenger's side) as a result of a bump-off of one of my neighbor's van in February 2009 while backing up (I could leave the car as it was but since they agreed to cover most of my expenses for the body work and full paint job I decided to go for it). I revealed this minor incident / issue for the sake of the full disclosure, otherwise there was no accident report, nor there is any trace presently on the body indicating damage

- the original color was dark brown (coffee brown) that inadvertently was not exactly replicated by MAACO at the time of the paint, a lighter brown color being used. I have accepted this different brown color since the job was done perfectly plus I personally liked the new color better than the original one (the certificate of title has "brown" as color so no effect)

CONDITION / FUNCTIONALITY

- presently the car is in top condition for its 29-year age with no rust, scratches, dents, dings, tears or rips in the upholstery anywhere

- all functions operate (brakes, lights, horn, signal, wipers, locks, no oil leaks)

- the tires are old and still usable for many thousands of miles, but the buyer might want to replace them so that to know the exact history of the mileage for the new ones

- all glass is intact and original

- power steering (no power windows, no power locks, no power seats)

- the radio works, the heat system works, the air conditioning works, the rear defroster works

- the back seat is close to new (being unused most of the time)

SPECIAL REMARKS

- this is not a MINT car (meaning not new as coming out from the factory) nor a RESTORED CAR (to perfection as some people would want) but in TOP CONDITION OVERALL FOR THE AGE with a unique brown color

- I am selling this car to raise the funds for buying a SUV 4WD car that I need for snow and slippery conditions. As a result, I am also interested in a possible local swap or trade for an older SUV in similar condition and value

- clean title on hand (owners being myself and my wife)

- no warranty of any nature and for any reason

- sale "AS IS" being an old used car

The engine is smooth, quiet and strong and should last 200K-300K miles. The car passed easily all every two-year emission tests with all readings close to the low limits (test results available). Being older than 25 years now, the car does not need to be tested anymore in Connecticut State (possibly the same in the other states).

This is a very clean and properly maintained car and a hard-to-find classic V8 American car with a unique brown color. Possibly, a collector's item. This car, a 1977 Chevy Caprice Classic (converted to a semi-muscle car; stolen eighteen years ago) and a 1972 Dodge Magnum (with amazing engine and torch but weak transmission) were my favorite ones out of fifteen cars (all 8V American cars) I have owned in the last twenty four years.

The car must be picked up from Hartford, CT, USA, with cash payment and all associated expenses being buyer's duty.

Interested parties can always stop by and inspect the car in person before making a decision to bid. I will just need a few hours notice or better one day ahead notice.

Questions and reasonable offers welcomed!

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
