1963 Oldsmobile "Super 88" Celebrity Sedan  /  White  /  Loaded!!

330HP "Sky Rocket" High Compression V-8 - 394 engine - 4 bbl.

Has the Optional "Hydra-Matic" Automatic Transmission.

*Options: Air Conditioning, Power brakes, Power steering and "Loaded" with Options like Factory Tinted glass! ... A very Cool Option is called "Safety Sentinel" next to Speedometer on Dash. You set it at what speed you don't want to drive past and it will sound a alert noise along with a light on dash to tell you your speeding!! You would think that this option would have been on 'every' car since 1963.  :)

All "Original" and "Rust-Free" 4 door Sedan. *(The front fender's are showing what I've been told is paint flake. More of a 'cracking' of paint. But 'not' rust! Car is 90% Rust Free. Only a few spots of surface rust. That's it!!)

*(Car has spent it's whole life in Missouri / St Louis and stored 'every' winter for 50 years!!)

Interior is in "Original" Mint Condition!

White with "Green" & "Light Green" Deluxe interior.

*Recent: (2013) Exhaust, brakes, shocks, tires, belts & tune-up. (Plug's, Rotor & Cap, Coil and Points/Condensor). Rebuilt Carburetor also!
Being so old, I had the Gas tank cleaned inside, installed New: Brake lines and Gas lines. This car still has the 'original' factory undercoating.

*Also, just had to replace the "heater core". Was a $450.00 Repair. But, cranking "Hot Heat" now.

Has "Original" paperwork included ... Sales Invoice when bought New in 1963 ... Tags ... Manual, etc.

Was Missouri "Safety Inspected" this past summer (2013) and run's like a New Car. *(Drove the car over the past summer/fall 2 times on trips to Wisconsin from St Louis for car show's and ran perfectly! Over #3,000 + miles put on this past summer.)

Note: The "Original Jack" / lug wrench in trunk 'look like' they were never used! ... Also, it look's like the 'original' spare tire in trunk too!! ... Trunk has 'zero' rust and all the 'weather-stripping' on car is in Excellent shape. Window's are 'scratch-free' and all the windows roll up and down like new!! ... Almost 'every' piece of Chrome on car is in perfect! Again, this car might have spent it's life in the "Hot" state of Missouri, but it was a "Garage Queen". No Rust!! You have to see for yourself the care this car was given over the years. Pictures don't do justice in my opinion.  :)

*HISTORY of the Oldsmobile "Super 88" story"

If you think a fuel injected Chevy Bel-Air was the top of the General Motors luxury/performance food chain, allow me to introduce you to this 1963 Oldsmobile "Super 88" with the SkyRocket 394 cubic inch engine! For 1963, the Olds 88 was officially named Super 88. The 88 enjoyed a great success, inspiring a popular 1950s slogan, "Make a Date with a Rocket 88", and also a song, "Rocket 88," often considered the first rock and roll record. Starting with the trunk-lid emblem of the 1950 model, Oldsmobile would adopt the rocket as its logo, and the 88 name would remain in the Olds lineup until the late 1990s. The 4-barrel carburetor atop the 394 cubic inch 440 lb.-ft of torque V8; 330 HP made this a true luxury performance car before we even knew such a thing existed.

The "Hydra-Matic" Drive automatic transmission shifts nice and smooth as it was designed to do. The shift indicator often makes people mistake it for a 3-speed automatic, as it indicates P N D-S (for Super, not second), and L, but the L position gives both 1st and 2nd gears, depending on road speed, then R last for Reverse.

The market hasn’t caught on yet, however, that these are faster and more luxurious than their Chevy cousins, and arguably just as attractive, making this car a tremendous bargain. Style, performance and luxury, this super 88 represents first-class in 60s cruising today at a price that probably doesn’t even cover the paint and chrome. The Superb performance and dashing beauty go hand in hand in Oldsmobile’s stylish super 88 model.
These car's are 'Rare' to find in this condition and almost 90% rust free. Auction prices are going up on these 'classic' Olds's Super 88's with Mega HP!!

Back in the day, this car carried a fairly stiff bottom line of $3,578.00 after being loaded with air and options. Today you can find these cars ranging in price from $9K to the $25K all depending on condition, etc.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
