This is a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham. (the Paint color and the Interior is specific to 1976)
I bought the car in 2008 from an Olds enthusiast who purchased the car in Southern California and brought it back to Illinois to restore. I had been searching for a solid 1976 Cutlass when I came across this totally Rust FREE 1977. The sun had destroyed the Interior of the car, but the body and frame are Super Clean and NO rust. When I stripped the car down for the paint shop, even the bumper bolts/nuts turned right off with a wrench as if they hadn't been on there for very long.
If you're familiar with the Cutlass from this era you know how bad the rear bumpers rusted and imploded...This rear bumper looks like brand new original condition. The only rust I found on the car was down in the corners of the back window under the padding and vinyl top which trapped moisture for years and eventually ate through the steel. The body shop who did my paint work replaced the metal with metal in these 2 small areas before painting and installing the new black vinyl top shown.
I built this project to be a driver with street performance, not to race and not to show. I had a '76 in high school that I worked at "re-creating" with this car and it's been a lot of fun. The paint is nice (about 5 years old now) but it's not 100% perfect to make this a show car. I will show the paint chips/scratches in photos so you can see what I am talking about. From 10 feet away, you cannot even see any flaws, chips etc. but I want to describe the car exactly as it is so you have NO suprises.
The car has T-Tops that I believe to be factory, but I cannot verify that 100%. When I repalced all the rubber weather seals etc. around windows, hood, trunk, doors etc. I could not find the weatehr stripping OEM for the T-Tops. For this reason, I have never left the car out in the weather but it doesn't leak when I have washed it or driven it in rain. The door window seals are new and even they are not air tight 100% so I was afraid to tear out the T-Top seals and try to modify a replacement available aftermarket.
The car has factory AC but I did not put the compressor back on the car when I put the new engine in it. I will include the AC parts that are original and not on the car now. There is no radio in the car. Someone had installed a cheap radio that I removed when I changed out the Interior. The Interior is all black and from a '76 so the dash vents are not the '77 look. The Interior is all in nice shape except for the fabric on the front seat which needs to be replaced or covered. The seat is in exellent shape, just the fabric is dry rotted away as you can see. That's my list of the "bad stuff" you'll want to address to finish up this car project. All the hard work is done and done RIGHT!
I bought the 403 Olds Street/Performance engine from C-Tech Performance Engines and Dyno Services in Wyoming, MI. I have the Dyno report and all their build specs as well as many of the receipts for parts that have gone into this car. Basically, they've done extensive machine work to this motor to give it a real nice sound and feel without taking it "over the top" for the drag strip. I've included pictures of the motor and will try to picture the specifications but please ask any questions you have about motor specs.
I put a new 200 4R Stage2 Full Race Performance GM Transmission behind this Motor so I could get a "hole shot" and still afford to drive it to work with the Overdrive gear in this tranny. The Transmission was built by The Transmission Depot in Hudson, FL who specializes in Performance/Street work. I changed the stock steering gear box out with a W-29 box for a better steering response and it takes the "Big Boat" feel out of the steering very nicely. The Rear Gears are Richmond Performance 3:73 in a Brand New Yukon Posi. New shocks all around last year (could use a coil spring upgrade from stock if you don't like the low soft tail), Hooker Headers, 3" exhaust pipes through new 40 series Flowmaster Mufflers and custom built Transmission Support that allows for full free flow straight 3" exhust pipes to pass through.
The tires are Indy 500 Firestones and have less than 200 miles on them. This car has spent most of the past 5 years under a dust cover in heated storage shop. I've tried to list as much detail as possible and answer any questions about the car. I will include lots of pictures as well. Please feel free to come see the car and/or ask any questions you might have before bidding on the car.
Thanks for looking and Good Luck bidding if this Car's for You!
Sorry, the pictures of my motor spec's and dyno test didn't come across readable. If you're interested in these documents, I can email or fax them to you upon request. Here's a bit of a summary on the motor:

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems
Mon, 30 Jun 2014General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
