1971 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible With His And Hers And Factory A/c on 2040-cars
West Hartford, Connecticut, United States
Ebay's picture editor is finally working properly. I have over 100 pictures of this car for any interested party. Many thanks.
Excellent two owner 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 convertible with W-25 hood and factory air conditioning. This is a highly original and unmolested car with a well known history and current ownership since the mid 1980's. The car has had one repaint in its original color scheme and is otherwise stock. It is a real deal and no stories 442 convertible. Exterior: The car is excellent and straight as an arrow. It has no visible rust or rust repair. The racker panels are excellent and razor straight. The door and panel fit is excellent. The glass is all original and very good throughout with no chipping or scratches. The top is a lightly used older replacement. It is excellent with the exception of one end of the trim piece that goes from side to side above the rear window which has lifted up a little bit. The fenders are the original fenders and totally rust free. The car has W-30 inner fenders (composite, not steel) that are black. The chrome and trim is all original with no pitting of note except on the door handles and windshield surround. The bumpers are very nice as is the grill and other trim bits. The car has the correct W-25 hood, and all correct 442 components. The paint is excellent for daily driving but not to show standards. The tires are relatively new with no dry rot and lots of tread. The interior is entirely original as it came from the factory. The only modification is the installation of a second set of gauges to confirm temp and oil pressure and an aftermarket cassette radio. The seats are original with a seam separation on the drivers seat and a couple of small repairable holes in the rear seat. The door panels are both worn and have been patched. The dash and instruments are excellent with no issues. The interior top components are also excellent. The top goes up and down easily. the carpets are nice originals. The shifter and console are also nice originals. The car has both the center storage bin and glovebox. It has the factory his and hers shifter in the console. The engine bay is original. It has never been restored or detailed. It is the original numbers matching engine with all correct 442 components. The car does NOT have the W-30 exhaust manifold or heads. The engine starts and runs great. It holds idle at all temps and spins the wheels easily. The transmission is the original transmission and shifts perfectly. The steering is accurate and the brakes strong and sure with no pull in either direction. The car has all of its original air conditioning equipment from the factory. The undercarriage is solid with factory rust coating still in place. The car has never been apart and has always been taken good care of but just two fastidious owners. The trunk floor is perfect as is the lip around the trunk area (two major known rust areas) and the original trunk matting is still in place. The rubber and wind lacing is all excellent original. The rear glass is also excellent original. I have tons of pictures of this car and am happy to send them to any seriously interested party. The car is available for inspection for the duration of this auction and I encourage you to come look. The car is ready to be a rapidly appreciating and great driver for someone who loves these. The car is stored in climate controlled storage in Erie, PA. I can be reached at 860-883-3998 with any questions. Good luck and happy bidding. |

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison
Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems
Mon, 30 Jun 2014General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
