1964 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser Station Wagon. Classic California car with only very minor rust in non-critical areas, check the pictures.

Three forward-facing seats, like a bus.  Most wagons, if they have a 3rd seat at all, face to the rear.
The rear window is electric and works with the key or from the dashboard via a switch.
Front brakes and spindles were converted to disc, custom springs installed to maintain original ride height, original 4bbl carb replaced with QJet and matching manifold, dual exhausts with crossover pipe and a 442 front sway bar installed. Low restriction mufflers make a very authoritative note.
When both rear seats are folded down, you can carry large objects like furniture and skis or sleep in it.

My daily driver for many years, still running as good as when I switched over to a small car.
I am the 3rd owner.  Bought it from #2 who rebuilt the engine and trans and was going to really fix it up but sold it to me when he decided on a Harley instead. I put about 120,000 miles on it in 17 years of daily driving until gas prices made this a weekend car and an Ikea-visit hauler.

You'll get  a brand-new custom cut headliner in the original material, the original 1st-owner's  Record-Plate maintenance booklet, the original hubcaps and the COMPLETE SET of original paperbound 1964 shop manuals for this car, which are worth about $125 alone, a spare QJet carburetor, tuneup parts, and other nice goodies.
You must come and pick up this car and drive it away or trailer it if you prefer, I cannot make any delivery arrangements for you.

ABOUT THE "SALVAGE" TITLE:  This is NOT a salvage car.  That is a technicality created by an insurance company.  I was at a red light, minding my own business when I got hit from the rear by a Corolla.  It dented the rear bumper pretty good.  The other driver's insurance company spent a month trying to figure out how to replace my 1964 bumper but they just couldn't.  I gave them names of bumper dealers in the area but they refused to use them.  Eventually they offered me a cash payout to get the bumper myself, I took the money and bought the bumper.  Little did I know that they had "totalled" my car and reported it to the DMV so that when I next went to renew my registration I almost hit the floor when I saw that word on the title.  That is the whole story.  It is no more a salvage car than yours would be if you had replaced your bumper.

'64 is the introductory year for this body style, the glass-roof option, the "Jetaway" 2-speed automatic transmission, the new 330 V8 that was manufactured using "hot box coring" for a lighter engine than previously, and a number of other things.
The glass-windowed roof was inspired by the Sceni-Cruiser train cars that were popular at the time. You can see one in the background of the postcard I put at the end of the photos.
Many people remember "That 70's Show" that had a later model Vista in the garage.  A 1964 like this one appears at length in the Kevin Costner movie, "A Perfect World".
One New Years in Vegas, I had a total of 11 people in this car but I wouldn't recommend repeating that stunt.
I promise you that once you get your friends in this car, somebody will always say "Are we there yet, daddy?" It brings out the kid in Everybody.

California 2013 registration is current through September.

At 297,000 miles you have to realistic that it is about time for some rebuilds, so this is not a showroom / boulevard car, not yet anyway.
This is for you to drive home, and start working on it to bring it back up to cruising status. It's a great-looking car and I always got thumbs-up from people at stoplights.

Car is sold in as-is running condition with no warranty.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
