For Sale is a 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado with the 5.0L GM 307 V8 motor, 4-speed auto, and front wheel drive (the Toronado was the first GM front-wheel-drive car).  It runs and drives down the interstate, but we have never had it more than 20 miles from town - drive it home at your own risk, it IS a 30-year-old car!  It has working air that is converted to R134A (have had to charge a couple of times over the years), working power windows, working power locks, working cruise control, a working cassette deck AM/FM stereo (believe it is stock, display does NOT light up), and received transmission flush-and-fill service and a tune-up in the past 18 months.

We have replaced the carburetor, radiator, wiper/washer motor, hood support struts, DS Rear brake line, Midas cat-back exhaust (NOT CAT), O2 sensor, belts, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor all within the past 18 months.  We replaced a missing Toro-specific hubcap, and now all 4 match again (thank you, eBay!)

We pulled this car out of the grove 18 months ago by jump starting it and taking it down the highway.  The tires even hold air!

There is some body damage all over the car, such as scratches and dents and a large dent in the pass rear quarter, that are consistent with a 30-year-old daily driver that was pulled out of the grove.  (see pics)  Some of the chrome is damaged or missing (see pics)  The bumper filler panels are gone (rear) or might-as-well-be (front).  The radio antenna was power, but was replaced with a non-power unit (the wires are still there if someone wants to convert it back).  The headliner is falling down, and held up with Help! brand headliner screws.  The pass side sun visor is missing.  The heater/AC fan has a 4-position switch, but the "med-hi" (setting 3 of 4) doesn't work.  It probably needs an exhaust "donut" (y-pipe gasket) as you can hear a small exhaust leak on deceleration and the check engine light will pop on briefly at idle.  Mileage exceeds mechanical limit (as shown, no 6th digit).  The soft top is badly weather cracked, and will need to be removed or replaced if you plan on restoring this car.  You have to choke the car to start it every morning, but it always fires right up, provided the temp is above 10-degrees F.  (any colder than that, and you have to wrestle with it, as was true with most carbs.)  If it was perfect, I'd be asking a whole lot more for it, lol!

This would be a great first car for a kid, a work car, or a restoration project for someone who loves these old things.  Price is as-is, where is.  I have 100% feedback and have sold several vehicles on eBay, so bid with confidence.  Buyers with zero feedback must contact seller before bidding.  Car is in Clear Lake, Iowa.  The pics tell the story.  Cash or cashier's check, or paypal payment due at or before transfer, with $100 deposit due within 24-hours of end of auction.  Buyer will be provided with clear Iowa title at pickup.  Car is for sale locally as well, and seller reserves the right to end auction early if vehicle sells locally.

Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
