Up for auction is a two owner, survivor, Florida bought and lived all its life.  Extremely rare 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado, with 57,154 miles. Finished in GM metallic gold mist , repainted once about ten years ago.

In the late 60’s the Toronado was a total sports coupe for the successful guy who didn’t want to be showy and buy a Cadillac.   You will never see one of these on the road or even at a car show.   It is an awesome looker with unbelievable lines.

1968 Description - An all-new grille, front bumper, hood, front fenders, and wrap-around front turn signals and new for 1968 side markers appeared. The headlamps were still concealed, lights are hidden behind honeycomb-textured grille panels that rotated to expose the beams when necessary.

The rather aggressive jutting front fenders were toned down for 1968, giving the car a smoother profile.

Joining most other General Motors' vehicles for 1968, the windshield wipers were newly tucked beneath the rear edge of the hood, concealing them from view except when in use.

The tail panel was heavily revised as well. A new rear bumper, tail lamp design that moved the lights into the bumper, and placed the back-up lights on either side of the license plate. There was not much doubt that this was the latest version of America's most famous front wheel drive automobile.

Inside, a new revised instrument panel provided more padding, eliminating any sharp edges. Seat upholstery and side trim panels featured new designs.

1968 was the first year for mandatory side marker lights, and the Toronado incorporated them beautifully into its design. Integrated into the front bumper, they wrapped around the edge and formed a one piece combination front parking/turn signal/side marker/cornering lamp assembly. On the rear edges of the quarter panels, the Oldsmobile Rocket emblem appeared, illuminated in red light at night.  Rocket 455 V-8 that developed 375 horsepower.

This particular vehicle is all original and has correct original engine, transmission, carburator etc.  Front Wheel Drive, 455 CID ROCKET V-8, 375 Horsepower, torque 510lb-ft, 4 Barrel Rochester Carburator, Turbo Hydra-matic 425 automatic transmission shifts perfectly.  Power steering works well, power brakes drum front and rear just services.   Toronado has 119 inch wheel base, fuel tank 24 gallons, trunk is 14.5 cubic feet.  15 inch tires and original toronado rims.

The vehicle is about an 8.5 out of ten, better than a daily driver not quite a show car.

Exterior - Paint is in nice condition it has had one repaint in correct gold metallic mist.  Several tiny paint chips but not even big enough to photograph.  Over all paint is gorgeous.  The Chrome is original, bumpers are perfect all chrome rocker panels are excellent, all bright work is excellent, all emblems are excellent and original.  Glass is all excellent, rubber sweeps and seals are in nice condition.  Lights all work and look great.  The drivers side tail light has minor crack in it but works well.   Tough to find a new one but still looking.  The hide away lights have been converted from vacuum to electric motors using a GM camaro kit.

Engine compartment is nice but not show quality, AC works, all vac items work except head light doors which are now electric.   New Rochester Carb, new radiator, newer AC compressor, brand new battery. Transmission just serviced, all new filters, new muffler makes it sound like a bad ass car.

Everything works including the original radio and radio antenna (we installed a new switch on dash).

Interior – original and perfect tan headliner, visors perfect, tan leather seats are in excellent condition, new tracks and new motor.  Tan Door panels in like new condition, dash is original with no cracks and all lights work well.   Radio is original and works.   New antenna switch.   Dash lights, speedometer, odometer, gauges all work.  Has aftermarket electric windows that work excellent even opera windows.   Everything accept the electric windows are original and in nice condition.   Rug is original harvest gold and in original condition.  Rug is the only thing that looks aged, everything else looks perfect and in very nice condition.

Car comes with an extra factory radio, extra door sill plates, extra set of seat tracks and seat motor.

Trunk liner has been redone, the original Oldsmobile mat it in the trunk and in great condition.  car comes with spare tire rim and brand new spare tire will be on it when u get it.  Can't find original jack but there is a jack and four way inside trunk.   Vehicle has factory matching upgraded hub caps.  These are factory correct.  White wall Michelin tires are nice, no dry rot, plenty of life left in them.

This vehicle has no rust, no filler and no dents or even dings.   Very rare vehicle in very nice condition - better than a driver, not show quality.  But has won many car shows.  Questions?   email please.  Don't bid unless you can buy.   Questions?  Email please.    Winner must place a $1000.00 in paypal.  car must be paid for within 7 days of auction.  It is stored in a climate controlled garage as long as u need.  We do not ship

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
