Driving Miss Bertha
Bertha is a Light Antelope 1988 Ninety-Eight Regency Brougham that had one owner until 2013. Delivered brand new in Lawrenceville Georgia to a local elderly lady, this car has remained in Georgia since new. This Ninety Eight has never been smoked in and appears to have been garaged for its entire life.
Named after her original owner Bertha, this tan beauty transported the real Miss Bertha and her faithful Schnauzer around Snellville Georgia until Miss Bertha passed on last year just shy of her 94th birthday. (True story.) While cleaning up the interior, I was able to deduce that Miss Bertha was a very spiritual woman who loved french fries and Subway. Several hand written bible verses, expired Subway coupons, and enough petrified french fries to fill up a large fry container were found Thankfully Miss Bertha was a good driver as there is little evidence of any major mishaps in her past. The right rear quarter panel has been touched up below the stripe but there is no evidence of any body work anywhere on the car. The Vehicle report does indicate a slight accident on the rear of the car in 1997. A professional body man looked at the car for me and stated he didn't see evidence of body repair, just the paint work on the fender.
This nicely equipped Regency Brougham model has the following equipment:
- 3800 V6 with Automatic
- power windows, locks, mirrors, steering, brakes, and seats.
- Ice Cold R12 Air conditioning
- Factory AM/FM Cassette
- tilt wheel
- cruise control
- Twilight Sentinel
- Automatic trunk close
- illuminated entry
- ride-level control
- ABS brakes (a nearly $1000 option in 1988)
- leather interior
- vinyl top
- rear defroster
- power antenna
- cornering lights
Everything operates as new on this car with the exception of the power antenna which is stuck in the up position. She cruises down the interstate at illegal speeds as if riding on a cloud. Brand new Hankook radial whitewall tires have brought a like new ride to this Oldsmobile. a new battery and crank positioning sensor installed in past three months.
I have a folder full of receipts going back to 1989 on this car. In the past 5,000 miles the previous owner had the following serviced:
- brakes
- new radiator
- new alternator
- A/C serviced with R12
- new headliner,
The original Light Antelope paint has been shined up to a brilliant luster and the matching top is in like new condition. Leather is soft and clean. No tears or cracks. Truly a rust free car.
Purchase includes 2 sets of keys and all books and paperwork shown comes with the car. One of the nicest examples I've ever seen...and I'm picky.
Low starting bid, low reserve, and even a buy it now option. Arrange your shipping or come in and drive home. Located just north of Atlanta. Other than a thoughtful new caretaker, this car needs nothing I can think of. Be the envy of the bridge club and arrive in Oldsmobile luxury!
Finally folks, and I hate to do this, if you have negative feedback or less than 5 feedbacks or are from outside the USA, I reserve the right to cancel your bid. If you have one of these conditions, please contact me with details and we can figure out whether you can play or not. No offense, just the way these things work.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison
Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
