1971 442-w30 Convertible Frame Off Recreation, Silver And White on 2040-cars
Johnson City, Tennessee, United States
Hello,
Up for sale is my father's framed off 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible recreation. This car is a clone of a cover car on Hemmings back in the early 2000's. That car was one of 3 produced and worth well over $120k at the time. We copied colors and trim as close as possible. This car was almost a decade long project. We did much of the work ourselves in our shop which at the time produced many extremely nice frame off Olds and Buick cars of the 60's and 70's. We have a reputation of building top notch cars that are capable of placing high in Olds or AACA shows. This car is just another fine example. We built this car for my father to personally keep. However due to a recent illness and the fact he doesn't get to drive it he wants me to list it here on ebay. Never thought he would sale it but life changes things. Since I did much of the work myself I can answer many of the questions you have. The car was started in approximately 2005 and finished in 2011. Since being finished he has driven it less than 500 miles. Currently it has no insurance so I haven't driven the car over 1 mile. But it seems the long storage since 2011 in his garage hasn't hurt the car. The gas is a little old but the car seems to purr like a kitten. Brakes seem great. Trans shifts great. Top works great. Gauges all appear to work as do the lights. Body: Low mileage car from GA. Painted in correct special order silver correct for the car we copied. Top of the line PPG paint was used. Very solid panels and doors. Replaced complete floor pan with original trunk pan in place. Very slick paint with only minor imperfections. White stripes in correct position. $3400 hood used to put the finishing touch on this beauty. All new chrome, emblems, lenses, grill, W-30 Red inner fenders, door handles, rubber, felts, T3's, top with hard glass, cleaned and painted top frame, among other items I missed. Basically it's all new or refurbished. Frame was blasted and painted. New lines and bushings. Detailed to as accurately as possible even with paper decals in place. It still looks great! Drive train: Rebuilt 455 engine. Correct 1971 replacement with K heads. Replacement W-30 cam and original very hard to find W-30 intake manifold. Correct breather with all attachments. Correct routing of all wiring and hoses along with correct type QuadraJet Carb. When you open the hood you are wowed! Rebuilt turbo hydromatic transmission. Rebuilt posi trac rear. All new brakes and lines. New joints in the driveline. New deep sounding exhaust with crossover pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. Interior: All new kit ordered for the interior. Pearl white panels and covers for the seats. New carpet and visors. New top with glass window. Custom built gauge holder made from original 8track panel. New wood grain and all trim is refurbished. Tic Toc tach. New His Hers shifter. Beautiful interior! Trunk with all new mats and original spare with refurbished jack. Cooker redline tires. Like I said this car is beautiful. You can't leave anywhere with it without a long conversation. However, like I said it's only got approx. 300 miles on it since we finished it. Those miles were put on it in 2011. Since then the car has sit in his garage with the others. It may need a few minor things. Things I noticed: small spot on one of the head rests, small thin spot in the paint on the rear spoiler, drip from the speedo cable on the tranny, trans shifter cable needs slight adjustment, paint rough on the oil pan on bottom of engine and the car could use a top notch detailing from where he drove it a little and it sit for a couple years. The air conditioner is complete but has never been serviced since we finished the car. In short you will be hard pressed to find a better Olds! I built these for years and went to many top shows. This car would hold up well at any Olds event. Every nut and bolt has been out and every part that needed attention got it. Is it perfect? No but I have honestly never seen the perfect one yet. They are old cars that seem to need little things no matter how much work you put in them. Car located in upper East TN. Car sold where is as is. You are responsible for transportation. Car is here for you to view if you desire to. On Aug-28-14 at 11:02:42 PDT, seller added the following information: First off, thanks for all the questions about my father's car. I tried to contact you all. Sorry for any delays. My father is currently in ICU at a local hospital. He has had a very tough week and really lucky to have survived. I am not viewing this car except about 1 time daily because I am living at the hospital. I plan on answering questions as soon as I can. If you want to see it our family will meet you somehow. Just email me and let me know. |

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison
Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
