1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 442 W30 Convertible                                     Doesn't every red blooded American man or woman want a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 convertible? 1970 was the pinnacle of the Muscle Car era, and the 442 is one of the most highly sought after muscle cars on the planet. This car is just like your fathers Oldsmobile if he was the cool Dad on the block. A buddy and I recently acquired this sweet 1970 Oldsmobile convertible during the winter from a gentleman who was a retired police officer, and had owned it for the past 32 years. The title shows he was the 2nd owner from 1982. According to him he had always kept this Olds stored in his garage, and said it has never seen rain or snow the entire time that he owned it. He said that the mileage is absolutely original, and this car only saw the light of day during nice sun shiny weather. It was very hard just to shoot the pictures. People kept stopping to say how much they loved the car. That's how much excitement this car will bring. It was driven down to the lake on dry pavement, and right back inside. It was too cold to take any top down pictures, so the winning bidder will just have to imagine how the car looks with the top down. The top does go up and down well, and locks in like a glove. We didn't want to jeopardize the condition of the top by putting it down. It was only 10 degrees when these pictures were taken earlier today, and the chance of some cracking was not worth taking. The heater does work awesome on all speeds, and will keep the new owner nice and toasty if they do decide to drive it in cold weather. Everything will be explained in this description that the last owner said was done to this exquisite looking automobile, and what we have done. The prior owner had this Cutlass Supreme restored back in the 80's. He had both quarter panels replaced with genuine GM quarter panels, brand new door skins, and a brand new GM left front fender was also installed on this beauty at the time of the restoration. There are new rubber gaskets around both doors, and the doors open and close very nicely. The trunk lid is one of the cleanest trunk lids we've seen on one of these cars, and a new rubber gasket seals up the trunk tightly. The only body panel original to the car is the right front fender. He purchased this car with 71,000 original miles, so it only received an additional 24,000 miles in the past 32 years. We decided to transform this model into the incredible looking 442 W-machine shown in the pictures. Neither one of us have ever seen one in this color combination, and we both believe you could search the world over, and you would be hard pressed to find another one even close to the bold statement this one makes. We added the new 442 grilles, and the dual snorkel forced ram-air induction hood with new chrome twistdowns. The awesome W-30 stripes were simply painted on to make this Oldsmobile resemble the awesome 442 W30 model. This car had only one re-paint during its entire 44 year existence. This is a drivers quality paint job that some people might admire it like show quality, but we personally do not. Although, This car looks spectacular to virtually everyone who sees it. This Olds is for the guy or girl who had one similar in high school and would like to revisit the past, or for someone who simply likes to drive around to enjoy their bank account grow while they steer their investment. Maybe it would be a great car to show up at your high school reunion to show everyone how cool you still are. Spring is right around the corner, and there are plenty of local car shows to attend. The original convertible top had some minor repair, but still appears in fairly nice condition. We don't have any documentation on this car, but the original 1970 Cutlass/442 owner's manual is included in the glove box. This is the original numbers matching Rocket 350 engine believed to have 310 horsepower with a turbo-350 transmission. We checked the numbers on the block and they do match the vehicle identification number. It is very hard to find an original un-tampered with vehicle that has most of its original components. The fuel pump and gas tank were replaced, and the oil and oil filter were also recently changed. There are front disc brakes, which was a very rare option from back then, thus making this car stop great. These cars came standard with four wheel drum brakes, so that's a very nice option to have. The master cylinder, and all the brakes were replaced on the front and the rear with new brake hoses in front. There are new stabilizer links on the front suspension. The water pump is also newer. There is a new radiator with new upper and lower radiator hoses. All the belts are also new, but the air conditioning belt is missing. This Olds cranks over with a newer Interstate battery, and the heavier duty battery cables. There is a brand new quadrajet four barrel carburetor. This Cutty starts right up and runs great! It steers with fingertip control, and we believe it can be driven anywhere. That's how nice it still runs! It has a nice pair of dual exhaust to make this 70 rumble like a blast from the past. All of the chrome is in nice drivers quality condition including all four wheel opening moldings. The front bumper was replaced at some point, and really looks close to new. This car has the straight rear bumper, so the new owner may want to purchase one with the cut-out portions for some chrome exhaust tips. That would be a nice finishing touch to make it more authentic looking. We never got around to making that switch. A new cut-out rear bumper can be purchased for around $300 from a wide variety of classic car parts suppliers. This classic Olds has some very rare options for a 44 year old car. The deluxe four spoke 442 sport wheel was added, but the original gold steering wheel is included in the trunk. We just felt there is nothing like cruising down the road looking out the windshield at that awesome striped hood, with the top down holding one of the nicest muscle car steering wheels made from that era. The rare factory ordered options include power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, power top, and air conditioning. Since the belt is missing, making the air conditioning operable will be left up to the next owner if they so desire. We noticed that one of the a/c hoses will need to be replaced, but the compressor does spin freely. This Olds has a 12-bolt open rear-end, but we are unsure of the gear ratio. It feels like it has the highway gear, so it should be smooth at higher speeds. There is very nice tread on a matching set of four 245/60R14 raised white lettered Dunlop GT radials. They are mounted on Super Stock II wheels painted gold to match the body stripes with all four center caps, all four beauty trim rings, and all new chrome lug nuts. They are just the right size to make this car sit proud like a real 442 should. The front split bench seat was just reupholstered on the seated portion of both sides, so it should be nice and comfortable for many years to come. This is a great car to take to the local drive-in movie theater with your sweetie. You can flip up the armrest and have that special someone slide right over, or you can fit 3 people in the front and 3 people in the back. The vanity mirror is still in place on the passenger visor. The carpeting is brand new to match the original carpet with a set of period correct tan plastic floor mats. The balance of the interior shows very well as shown in the pictures. This car has an aftermarket AM/FM cassette player, and it looks as if the dash was never cut. The back panels were never cut up to fit speakers like were typical in the 1970's. Fortunately the last owner just had some desk top speakers placed on each side of the rear seat. Those were removed, and a new pair of speakers come with the sale. The new owner can decide where they would like to place them, but the wires are all set for speakers on both sides of the rear seat. The drivers floor had one very small patch on the seam, and is still very sturdy. The rest of the floors are all original in very good condition. The frame is also in very good condition. The original trunk floor is one of the nicest original trunk pans you will find in one of these cars. The trunk floor was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. A new trunk mat sits inside the nicely detailed trunk with the original restored jack and crowbar. A full size Super Stock II matching spare wheel comes inside the trunk. In case there is a mishap on the road with a quick tire change you can be on your way looking complete in minutes. What you see is exactly what you get! Plain and simple! The Nada Classic Car Price Guide has the current values that anyone can check on-line for a 1970 442 W30 convertible listed at $193,410 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $146,055 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! We think this droptop is in far better than what they consider average condition. Why not have the same looking muscle car convertible for a fraction of the price. Not many people will ever know this 442 W30 look-a-like is not the real deal except us, and the winning bidder. We're not telling anyone!! They have the lowest condition value at $125,265 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. This is a prime opportunity to own a piece of muscle car history at a fraction of those prices listed above. Everywhere you drive this car people are attracted to this car like a magnet. You must be prepared to be the spectacle of the neighborhood. Most likely you'll hear "Wow! What a pretty car!" These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. We tried to replace all of the factory decals to make this car appear as it would have looked the day it rolled out of the factory onto the showroom floor had someone ordered it in this rare color combination. Take advantage of this chance to finally own your dream car. We believe this is an investment that will continue to rise as these cars have shown to consistently appreciate in value. A great deal of time, money, and effort went into making the car you see listed in this description. We tried to describe all of the pertinent information, so any potential bidder can make the most informed decision possible before placing their bid. If there is anything else you feel we may have missed, please ask as many questions you like. We pride ourselves in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. A $2,000 deposit will be due within 24 hours and the balance will be due within 72 hours of the end of the auction. Please have your funds in order prior to placing your bids. This elegant one of a kind looking example of a 442 will sell on a quick 5-day "No Reserve" auction to the highest bidder at 8pm Eastern time, 7pm Central time, or 5pm Pacific time on Wednesday evening. Bid now and bid to win! Thank you for taking the time to view our auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
