1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 455 V-8 W/turbocharger - Restomod on 2040-cars
South Paris, Maine, United States
This 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 is one of a kind. The car was completely gone through in 2008 and was restored as a resto-mod, although the car could easily be returned to stock if desired. I am not the original owner and I purchased the car following the restoration. The description listed below was provided by the restoration shop that completed the work. This is an original W-30 car, but it is not a numbers matching car. If requested, I can provide the contact information for the shop, which can verify the work and the authenticity of the vehicle. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this car when you see it in person. It's got tons of power with a wicked rumble and exhaust note to match.
Body: This 442 still retains most of its original sheet metal. When we obtained the car it had some very minor rust issues on the bottom sides of the quarters behind the rear wheels and on the lower front fenders. These areas were cut away and replaced with patch panels. All of the remaining sheet metal from the floor pans, to the roof are all original. This car is now 100% rust free. The body is as straight as an arrow. This 442 also has its original OW2 Ram Air Hood which is fully functional and in excellent condition. This 442 was originally gold but that color scheme was scrapped and we went with a 1969 GM Blue which looks absolutely gorgeous in person. It was done in a base coat clear coat setup and was done professionally. The majority of the chrome on this car is brand new. The bumpers and grill, brand new. The car has all new weather stripping. The doors shut with ease and line up perfectly. The windows also roll up and down with ease as they should. All of the glass is in excellent shape with no major pitting or scratches. The 442 is sitting on a set of new American Racing Torque Thrust II's (20's and 18's) and almost new tires. The car also has an original spoiler, not a remanufactured spoiler. Engine & Mechanical: The motor within this 442 is a correct 1970 date code 455 but is not the original numbers matching setup. It has been completely gone through and is in excellent condition. There are approximately 79,000 miles on the odometer; however, the engine was completely rebuilt in 2008 and I estimate there are approximately 7,500 miles on the motor since it was rebuilt. The motor does not smoke, leak, or burn an excess amount of fluids. It has been balanced and here are is a list of what has been done with this motor: • TRW Forged Flattop Pistons • ARP Rod Bolts • ARP Main Studs • Mondello High Volume Oil Pump • Mondello Oil Restrictors • Edelbrock Aluminum Heads • Torquer Intake • 950 HP Holley Carburetor • Powerdyne Super Charger • Headers • B & M 2500 Stall Converter • Aluminum Radiator The transmission in this 442 is a Turbo 400 and it too has been completely rebuilt during the restoration process. The transmission is controlled by a new B & M automatic shifter. The 442 still retains its original 342 Posi rear end which was also gone through and is in excellent working order. The car now has aftermarket lift bars on it. The 442 also has a brand new 3" Exhaust setup and ceramic coated headers which compliment the motor very nicely. The 442 also has a new power steering setup and new power brake setup. Both are in excellent working order. The car had AC from the factory, but it is not currently set up. Interior: The interior as you will see below, has been completely gone through. New carpet, new headliner, front and rear seats have been redone, The dash is also in excellent condition as it has been refurbished as well. The only wear you will find through out the interior has been on the drivers side seat which could easily be cleaned up. All of the electrical components on this 442 have been completely gone through and are in excellent working order. The 442 also has a new CD player, amp, and LCD that folds out. All of which are in excellent working order. For Sale: I have enjoyed the car very much, but it is time for me and my family to move on. I am not forced to sell the car, but I am willing to work with a serious buyer for a reasonable price. Please contact me with any questions or to set up an appointment to view the car in person. The car is currently located in South Paris, Maine, and is available for inspection by appointment. I am willing to assist in shipping the car worldwide at the buyer's expense. This car is also listed for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if sold locally. To clarify, I am not attempting in any way to misrepresent this vehicle or its condition. As mentioned above, I encourage you to verify its condition and authenticity in person if you have any concerns. Additionally, I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability. I am a fellow car nut and have spent many hours on this car, but also understand that it is a 43-year old car, not brand new off the showroom floor. If the successful buyer has any issues with the car or its condition upon pickup, I will gladly return their deposit/payment in full. However, if shipping the vehicle, that guarantee only applies until it is loaded onto the shipping vehicle as I will not control their protection of the car after that point. Ultimately, I want the car to go to a good home with a happy buyer. Thank you. |

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison
Thu, 13 Nov 2014The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
