YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1968 OLDSMOBILE 442 CONVERTIBLE FACTORY 4 SPEED, BENCH SEAT CAR. THIS WAS A TRUE GARAGE FIND, I BOUGHT THE CAR IN EARLY 2007 FROM A LOCAL GUY WHO HAD A VERY LARGE BODY SHOP,AND HAD IT STORED AT HIS FACILITY. THE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS A FRIEND OF THE BODY SHOP OWNER AND WAS GOING TO HAVE HIM RESTORE IT FOR HIM, BUT BEFORE HE HAD A CHANCE TO GET TO THE CAR, THE FELLOW HAD PASSED AWAY. BEING THAT THE OWNER HAD RESIDED IN NEW YORK, HIS SPOUSE ASKED HIM TO SELL IT FOR HER BECAUSE SHE HAD NO REAL INTEREST IN IT, AND THAT IS WHERE I CAME INTO THE EQUATION AND BOUGHT IT. THE LAST TIME THE CAR WAS DRIVEN WAS IN 1976 AND WAS STORED EVER SINCE. THE CAR WILL NEED A FULL RESTORATION, BUT THE GOOD PART IS THEY CARS FOUNDATION IS IN REAL NICE SHAPE AND THIS CAR IS  NUMBERS MATCHING TO THE CARBURETOR.  NOTHING WAS EVER ALTERED TO THE DRIVE TRAIN, SO IT IS AS ORIGINAL AS THEY COME.  THE ONLY THING THAT HE ADDED WAS A SMALL KNEE KNOCKER TACH TO THE STEERING COLUMN.  BEFORE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR THEY HAD PUT IT UP ON THEIR LIFT AND I WAS TRULY AMAZED, IT HAS NO FRAME ISSUES, NOTHING SCALY AND THE FLOOR AND TRUNK PANS ARE JUST AS SOLID. FROM THE DOORS BACK THIS CAR MAINTAINS THE ORIGINAL PAINT "NO JOKE !!"I WAS AMAZED AT THE UNDERSIDE, BEING A CONVERTIBLE MOST OF THESE RUSTED EVEN IN NICE CLIMATES DO TO THEM HAVING MORE AREAS FOR WATER TO GET IN THAN THE HARDTOPS. SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE HE HAD TAGGED THE FRONT END A COUPLE OF TIMES, SO THE FRONT CLIP WAS FROM A CUTLASS SUPREME.  IT WAS NEVER HIT REAL HARD, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FRAME ISSUES.   THE BACK END WAS ALSO TAGGED (SEE PHOTO).  WHERE THE TRUNK LATCH AREA IS IT DID GET BENT SLIGHTLY, BUT THIS IS VERY FIXABLE AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO REPLACE ANY OF THE SHEET METAL. WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED AND THE REST OF THE GLASS IS GOOD.  THE TOP WAS ORIGINAL AND DURING THE PROCESS OF HAVING IT FLAT BEDDED TO MY GARAGE, DUE TO AGE IT BEGAN TO CRUMBLE.  BUT AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS EVEN THE BOWS ARE RUST FREE AND THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN MY GARAGE, NEVER OUTSIDE.  I HAVE BEEN INTO OLD MUSCLE CARS FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND I NEVER PURCHASE CARS THAT NEED QUARTER PANELS, FLOOR PANS, TRUNK PANS, ECT.....   AND AFTER CHECKING THIS CAR OUT, I KNEW THAT IT WOULD BE THE PERFECT CANIDATE FOR A FULL RESTORATION. UNFORTUNATELY MY AGE & HEALTH ARE GETTING THE BEST OF ME AND I TRULY WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOMEONE RESTORE THE CAR AND KEEP IN TOUCH WITH ME SO THAT I CAN SEE IT FINISHED.

THE MOTOR IS THE BIG BLOCK 400 WITH THE MUNCI 4-SPEED TRANSMISSION AND THE 12 BOLT POSI "REAL AMERICAN MUSCLE" THE VIN# IS 344678M29XX THE MILEAGE IS 98,150 AND IS THE ACTUAL MILEAGE WHICH IS STATED ON THE TITLE.

I HAVE ALOT OF MONEY INVESTED IN THE BEGINING STAGES OF PREPARING FOR THE RESTORATION OF THIS CAR, AND ANY TIME I WOULD RESTORE A CAR I WOULD FIRST FIND ALL OF THE PARTS BEFORE I WOULD BEGIN A RESTORATION. SO HERE IS THE DEAL, "YOU ARE BIDDING ON THE CAR AND THE CAR ONLY" AND WHO EVER THE NEW OWNER IS I AM GOING TO OFFER ALL OF THE PARTS I HAVE HUNTED DOWN FOR THE PAST 6+ YEARS TO HIM/HER FIRST. I HATE TO SAY IT BUT ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW HARD SOME OF THESE PARTS ARE TO GET AND HOW PRICEY THEY ARE. THE REASON I LOVE THIS CAR SO MUCH IS BECAUSE FINISHED THIS CAR WOULD HAVE ALL OF THE ORIGINAL BODY PARTS WITH NO REAL BODY WORK TO SPEAK OF, AND THAT MEANS ALOT FOR AN INVESTMENT QUALITY MUSCLE CAR.PLEASE SEE ALL OF THE PHOTOS AND REMEMBER THE DOORS BACK ARE THE ORIG. GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
