First off, this car is only for sale due to me finding a car that has peaked my interest for some time and now it is available. This car by no means is for sale for any other reason but to free up some room in the garage and pocket book to be able to do that. This a car that is 1 of 798 made in this configuration. It is a F-85 Deluxe Holiday coupe ordered with the W-29 442 option, 4 speed bench seat, ca only crankase vent, and a 3:90 posi. It is a low option car with no power anything. It was bought new at holiday olds in san bernardino and the original ca black plates and dealer frame go with the car. It was sold to gentleman in MN in the 1987 range and a one way plane ticket was purchased and it was driven back getting almost 18 mpg with the 3:90 in it! fast forward to 2011. The ca was moved to indiana by the second owner, sold at a used car lot on consignment to the 3rd owner for only a short time before I aquired it. I did more of a a "preservation" on the car than a restoration of sorts. I pulled the original motor and trans to be checked over and a new valve job done to the heads. The cylinder walls were perfect and motor has 20 over pistons in it. Oil pressure is strong and everything else checked out just fine. alot of time and resources went into making this car show the way it does. alot of original style zinc, grey phosphate and parkerizing (black coating) was done for that extra detail. Believe it or not but up until 2011 this car still had its original born with exhaust system on it. down to the 442 stamped mufflers. They had finnally let go and a new gardner exhaust system went on. Bumpers were sent out as was the rocker moldings. A couple nos moldings were used and they were re bright dipped at the finishing touch in chicago. Car har new wide oval redlines on all of its original R code steel wheels. The spare is still an original uniroyal redline. I left the floors original as you can still see alot of original overspray. They were so nice didn't want to cover them up and left them as they have been preserved for over 40 years. Interior is all new from headliner to carpet. Legendary was used throughout. Dash was sent out to Ron Roth who is the 66-7 dash restoration authority. I added a dash mounted tach "just because". Vintage stewart warner guages were left because they just plain look good there. Car shows 55,000 on the clock. Can't verify if it ia 55 or 155. either way everything has been gone through and one car draw their own conclusion with the fact it wore its exhaust for 45 years. Everything works except radio. Car was painted back in the late 80's and after a skate over with 2500 and buffing it came back to life and at shows it gets compliments on the paint job. never been any rust on this one. Trunk is as solid as one can imaging and painted all green like it should be. Car performs very well and is very street friendly. (see video). This car is also well known by Curt Anderson who some may say is the galen govier of 66-7 olds' not to mention a great guy and also Mike Richards who in his own right is a bit of a 66 guru (and great guy who has helped). I spoke with him extensively before purchasing this car as he knew it very well. Also this is a fremont built car meaning a build sheet was found! It is a copy and the second owner made copies and he has not been cooperative in trying to find the original. rest assured the car "is what it is". Car showed well at the 2012 nationals scoring in the 960 range and took a silver concours certificate at the last musclecar and corvette nationals show in IL. If car doesn't sell then the other car I'm after wasn't meant to be and it will stay in the climate controlled enviroment its been in since I've owned it. Any questions call 414-688-060four. serious inquiries only. I'm an olds guy and don't mind talking about them if someone is serious. car is 90 miles north of chicago.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant
Wed, 18 Jun 2014If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
