Up for no reserve auction is my 1966 Oldsmobile 442. This car is originally a rust free Colorado car that underwent a full frame off restoration (completed in June 2013). Every nut and bolt came out of this car. Body, fenders, doors, trunk and hood were all soda blasted and sealed with PPG DP-90.  Doors were rust free and didn't have any dents bigger than a half dollar. The frame was stripped down to bare metal, sand blasted, cleaned, primed with PPG DP-90, and top coated with PPG polyurethane black for durability.  Frame was reassembled with polyurethane bushings and new bolts.  All parts were blasted and primed with DP-90, top coated with PPG polyurethane black. New polyurethane body mounts and bolts. Under body top coated with PPG Polyurethane black for durability. Rust free, dent free fenders went on the front. The body was treated with gold bond, finished with PPG High build primer, painted with PPG DBC -1, top coated clear with PPG 2021 (DC61 Hardener), water sanded, re top coated with clear PPG 2021 (DC61 Hardener), water sanded and rubbed.  Car has lots of base and clear. Paint is a really nice earth tone burgundy orange metallic. Paint looks fantastic!

The entire brake system is brand new including brake lines, brake kits (new springs)  and liners (pads), wheel cylinders, power booster and master cylinder. Car has new gas lines and gas tank. Wheel bearings were checked  and repacked.

Engine is a recently rebuilt 425 D block with C heads (new motor mounts). Car has good oil pressure at idle and runs cool. Car has new 3-core aluminum radiator to help with hot summer heat. This car can be offered with the original numbers matching E-Block with B heads. The numbers matching engine is complete. Carburetor on the car is a Berry Grant  Demon 750  (4 corner adjustable). Transmission is a Muncie  4-speed with a new pressure plate, disk and re-surfaced fly wheel. Transmission also has new shifter bushings. Headers are new with a new custom 2 1/2 exhaust (with crossover) all the way back.

Rear end is a posi-track 355. The rear end was blasted and cleaned,  primed with PPG DP 90 and top coated with polyurethane black. Drive shaft has new universals with grease fittings. New tie rods (inner and outer). New ball joints (upper and lower).

Car has all new rubber including doors, trunk, roof rails, window sweeps and hood. Car has new trunk matt. This car is a great driver.

Interior is in good shape and has new dash and headliner. Floor and headliner is insulated with dur-a-liner. Car also has a new fire wall insulator.

Car needs: bumpers re-chromed for cosmetic imperfections, new speed cable (which I have), heater core repaired and some other small items. Tires are new, rims are in good shape: free of warpage and dents, all rims are balanced and spin true. Center caps could be switched out for Oldsmobile caps.

Happy bidding.

Please call me at 248-252-0747 or 248-320-1803 for additional information, additional pictures available upon request. Trunk, engine bay and undercarriage is immaculate.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.
