A PORTION OF THIS SALE IS GOING TO CHARITY

1989 Nissan Pickup (D21), 5 speed manual, 2.4L, 2 wheel rear drive, truck bed XL custom raised cap.

I get about 25 MPG in it.  Its in excellent shape, just over 109,000 actual miles, garage kept its entire life until a couple years ago when I acquired it.  To explain how well kept this truck was by th eprevious owner, when the stock radio had a malfunction and quit working, he went to the Nissan dealership and ordered and had professionally installed the original stereo.  This was only a few years before I bought it.  He had some damage from leaning on the driver's side door arm rest and went to a professional car interior repair company and had one fabricated to match the original.  This truck is the best running vehicle I have ever owned and I would absolutely truct it to drive across country and back, and back again, with no worries.  He also had brand new tires put on it right when I bought it, so they have about 7,000 miles on them (and they have been rotated at 5,000).

I bought it from this friend whom owned it for many years, yet hardly drove due to illness.  He has since passed and it is no longer suited for my family.  Bought about 2 years ago and took it for its 100,000 mile inspection (it was at 102,000 miles) at the Nissan dealership.  I had them do the entire inspection and do all maintenance, even if it wasn't in need.  The bill totalled $1,425.

The following has been done to maintain its quality, since I bought it:

  • Oil change/filter/lube
  • new turn signal bulbs and brake indicator button
  • new ignition switch
  • new spark plugs/wires
  • new fuel filter
  • flushed radiator
  • replaced intake gasket
  • valve cover gasket
  • manifold gaskets
  • transmission flushed
  • rotated tires
  • repaired and charged A/C
  • new rear brake shoes and drums
  • and new rear wheel cylinders

I have receipts for all of this, I believe.  Honestly it is the best running truck I have ever owned and has never had a problem. Starts right up every time regardless of weather and never had to repair a thing (just maintenance above).  The heater blows hot and the air conditioner blows ice cold.  Everything works, and it is a huge gas saver.  I get about 25 miles per gallon in it.  NADA estimate with custom cap is $3,900 to $5,250, and I would honestly rate it around the $5,000 mark... but this auction will not have a reserve.  It is however for sale locally, so I do have the right to end the auction early.  Any questions let me know.

In order to give complete and full disclosure of the vehicle, I do know of two things (cosmetically) that are wrong.  The vents in the dash have a thin plastic frame around them.  They are old and brittle, which caused them to crack and break.  I took them off when I bought the truck with intention of replacing them, but never did.  You can see them in the pictures of the two side vents.  Also, as far as I can tell the ashtray has never been used.  I am a non-smoker and so was my friend whom owned it for many years.  Another thing I noticed a few weeks ago was a small dent, about the size of a nickel, in the edge of the hood.  You can also see this in the picture of the hood.  There is no paint damage or anything, and I beleive it could be popped out rather easily.

BTW... it even has the owners manual, paperwork for the tires, and even the radio manual.

Nissan installs 1,000th CHAdeMO fast charger in Europe

Thu, Feb 13 2014

While the European Union hasn't been very supportive of CHAdeMO stations, the fast chargers are seeing significant growth in the European electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, with Nissan installing number 1,000 at the Roadchef Clacket Lane Services in Surrey, UK recently. In the past year, the number of CHAdeMO fast chargers nearly doubled in Europe, starting from about 600 stations in early 2013, and that's helping make EVs more useful. Nissan says that installation of a CHAdeMO station along Norway's E18 highway increased EV use eightfold there in the 18-month period after that station was installed. The new CHAdeMO station in the UK is available to use for free and, like other CHAdeMO stations, can charge a Nissan Leaf or other compatible EV up to an 80-percent charge in just under 30 minutes. Japanese automakers like Nissan and Mitsubishi are dedicated to the CHAdeMO but German and US automakers continue to support a competing technology in Europe and abroad, the SAE Combo DC fast charger. Tesla Motors has covered all the bases as it rolls out its $1,000 CHAdeMO adapter for its Supercharger stations. Nissan worked with Ecotricity, a UK green energy firm considered to be a pioneer in EV charging, for the Surrey installation. Nissan says that installing it on the M25 highway south of London helps EV drivers gain easy access to Kent and onward into Europe on one of the busiest roads in Europe. That will help drivers of the Leaf and the upcoming Nissan e-NV200 electric van to quickly extend their journeys, said Jean Pierre Diernaz, Nissan's director of electric vehicles, in the press release available below. 1,000th CHAdeMO standard quick charger installed in the UK UK has 18% of Europe's electric vehicle quick chargers Charger provides free, zero carbon electricity from Ecotricity Chargers recharge electric cars from 0-80% in 30 minutes Nissan has announced 1,000 CHAdeMO quick chargers have now been installed in Europe with the commissioning of the charger at the Roadchef Clacket Lane Services in Surrey, UK. The fast charging unit can recharge the batteries of compatible* electric vehicles - including the 100% electric Nissan LEAF - from zero to 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes, and at zero cost. The installation of the fastest type of chargers dramatically increases the uptake and usage of electric vehicles.

Recharge Wrap-up: first Chevy Volt hits 200K miles, DriveNow launches in London with BMW i3 on deck

Mon, Dec 8 2014

The first Chevrolet Volt has driven over 200,000 miles. According to the owner, Erick Belmer, the car, which he purchased on March 28, 2012, is "holding up flawlessly" with "no noticeable battery capacity loss." Belmer has a commute of about 220 miles per day, rotates his tires every 10,000 miles, and gets an oil change every 38,000 miles. Belmer still loves driving his "dream car" every day, and says it is "wonderfully engineered." Read more at Inside EVs. DriveNow has launched in London, and will include the BMW i3 as part of its carsharing fleet. Daimler shut down its Car2go operations there just six months ago. Currently, DriveNow members have access to the BMW 1 Series and Mini Countryman, but come spring of 2015, DriveNow, which is a joint venture between BMW and Sixt SE, will add 30 all-electric i3 EVs to its London service. DriveNow's rates for London are set at 39 pence per minute, with an hourly maximum cost of GBP20 (about 61 US cents and $31, respectively). The service currently operates in the boroughs of Islington, Haringey and Hackney, with hopes of expanded service in the near future. Read more at Hybrid Cars or at Reuters. FIA's Formula E electric racing championship series received the Autosport award for Pioneering and Innovation. The award ceremony was a black-tie event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag accepted the award. "Many people in motorsport, when we started Formula E, didn't think we would make the first race," says Agag. "To announce we were doing a championship with cars that didn't then exist was a real challenge. But after that first race in Beijing, everything worked." Read more at Formula E's website. The Nissan Leaf has driven over a billion collective kilometers. That's more than 621.3 million miles. Nissan said in August that it expected to reach that mark by January, and it has done just that. To celebrate, Nissan Europe has created a video to thank its 147,000 Leaf drivers to bring the car to that substantial milestone in less than four years. Check out the video below. Nissan: We lose money on each Leaf replacement battery

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Nissan has been playing its cards pretty close to its chest when it comes to the production costs for Leaf battery packs. The company recently put a price on replacement batteries for customers at $5,500 plus the requirement to return the old battery. If the decommissioned battery is worth $1,000 to Nissan, as they have stated, that means the battery costs about $6,500 to make, right? Maybe even less if Nissan wants to turn a profit, as automakers are wont to do? Wrong.
Green Car Reports spoke to Nissan about these battery costs, and found that the automaker actually loses money on selling the replacement battery for the Leaf at the current price. Jeff Kuhlman, Nissan's vice president of global communications said, "Nissan makes zero margin on the replacement program. In fact, we subvent every exchange." All you English majors will know that "subvent" is a fancy way to say "subsidize." Kuhlman added, though, "We have yet to sell one battery as part of the program."
The fact that Nissan offers its replacement batteries for less than it costs to manufacture them is telling of a company both cares about what its customer needs and is dedicated to the success of its product. In this case, both of those things encourage people to give up fossil fuels and adopt electric mobility, which is heartening. As more people switch to battery-powered driving, though, battery technology should become better and cheaper, and the scale of production should cause manufacturing costs to decrease. Eventually, Nissan could easily see itself breaking even selling the Leaf battery replacements.
